tearing down curtains, isn't she pretty
run round the ballroom, see how she moves
I watch her heart beating, in a frame that's so fragile
I feel the warmth leaving her skin

The fawn is sound asleep. Its frail chest rises and falls gently as it breathes, large ears occassionally twitching. Soft but ragged fur clings to its thin body. The long legs folded underneath it look as if they could be snapped far too easily, like a twig. Behind the fawn there sits the Idol of the Ruins, a smaller, somber version of its sibling at the river. Miniature versions accompany it, sitting nearby, stone-faced and cold-hearted.
Rhapsody bleats quietly in his sleep and turns to curl into the stone figure.
Is it real, or fantasy? He wonders if he's dreaming. He can't tell; everything seems so real, yet surreal at the same time. What is this strange creature before him? He can't see it clearly, oh no; but he can see that it almost resembles a tree. The figure is tall, and slender, but less...leafy. Everything is blurry. There's a flash of sparkling silver, and then he can see a pair of bright gold eyes very close to his own face. A wicked grin, a bubble of laughter, the flick of fur or a mane or something very similar. Rhapsody whines, pushing himself to those long, wobbly fawn-legs of his, craning his neck back to stare at the strange-looking creature. Its clearer now; his eyes don't hurt anymore. He hears a voice, and its so incredibly familiar that its frightening. It isn't the female voice of Poltergeist, no, nor is it the strangely-accented voice of Mick. So who? He doesn't recall anyone else whose voice he'd recognise.
Who is it?
Another quiet chuckle, and now he can understand what this strange, somewhat familiar creature is saying. How does it know his language? How do they speak the same language when they're both clearly very different? Is this creature a god? A tree? Its certainly not a deer.
"You should change out of that fur coat," it says, and Rhapsody has the feeling he's being toyed with, teased. Another bubble of laughter. "It suits you, though. Not that I'm too keen on youngsters." Rhapsody tries to speak, tries to ask who in the name of the Gods this strange being is, but no words come out; he can only bleat. "Shush." Something warm touches the side of his flat-ish face, and he squeaks, toppling sideways. The figure laughs loudly. "Whoever thought you could be so clumsy?" It gives a heavy sigh and blows something brightly-coloured and mysterious and powdery into the black fawn's face. "Well I'd best get back. It's a shame you can't see, darling, I've really missed you."
His eyes snap open in surprise, wide eyes staring fearfully into the space where, in his mind, something strange and familiar had just been speaking to him. Rhapsody frowns, head turning, ears swivelling this way and that.
What a strange dream.
