My heart thrums softly, gently. It feels like a gentle tapping in my chest, but this inconsequential tap is what keeps me alive. It's important.
Grasses swayed in the early spring breeze as a doe stood grazing. The squeaking rip of grass being pulled from itself wasn't loud unless you looked for it... or maybe were a rabbit. She did not seem to disturb the nearby lapin, who chewed on some dandelion shoots. Diana felt a kinship with the small beast, even if it was just because she shared a brunch with him. Oddly, the doe even thanked her company for enjoying the spring morning with her as he slowly moved off. Maybe that ear-flick was a goodbye in kind... she mused, returning to browsing for the meal.
Mushrooms made a fine main course, and a drink of sweet cool water ended the meal as a palate cleanser. Sand sucked at her toes as she sucked in drought after drought of the icy spring pondwater, flicking her fluffy tail gently to ward off early flies. Her tail, however, would not ward off the frog that had misjudged a jump and bumped into her back leg. Oops! The doe giggled, moving her hoof so the little squishy being had a path into the water. She interpreted a croak from the amphibian as a thank you and a pardon. Unless he's mad at me for being in the way? I sure hope frogs really are kind creatures. I hope your day gets better! Watch out for fish and birds! He left her for the water with a plop.
Water dripped from the whiskers on her chin as the doe raised her head to scan the area around her. Frogs chirped, trees swayed and creaked, and birds flew from reed to reed as they gobbled bugs. The water lapped at the sand around her hooves, sucking like a hungry fawn. The feeling was entertaining, eliciting another giggle. Diana turned away, then, and began to head up the hill toward the statues that portrayed crudely the forms of gods.
White marble figures that weighed more than an irish elk stood proudly on a high hill to survey their realm. Inhabitants would come and pray, only to be choked by blue smoke and then turned blinding white. This spell was great fun to play tag with, Diana had found as a fawn. It also made her feel closer to the twin guardians of her home.
Quietly and with reverence the doe approached the statues and kneeled in front of them with her nose to the grass. She prayed.
Please, if you want to RP here do your best. Be literate, be coherent, and be considerate of Diana. I would prefer a RP that would help to develop her, not just a meaningless interaction.

A grumble floated on the
That deer! What was all over him? The black substance was wet and clung to him. Was it hurting him? The long white hairs bristled all over her tail. Hurting was just one of those words that made it do that. The doe licked her lips and hid herself fully again, trying to think of a solution. Should she try to help?
He tossed his damp jacket
He stared face to face at one of the statues, examining it closely. It was made of a fine white marble with flecks of gold and silver that seemed to dance when the sun's rays met them. "What wonderful marble", he thought. "It could be worth something," he said, and began to strike the statue with his sharp hoof.
OOC: I added a bit more.
The doe moved off a bit as he
A deer was actually striking the statues! What did he have against the Gods? The marble that was so smooth was starting to change beneath his hoof... become scratched. Marble was a strong stone and she didn't worry about it breaking, but it was disrespectful all the same. Is he ignorant?! the thought flooded through her brain and set her normally gentle demeanor ablaze. The tingle of anger rolled through each tan hair and all the way down to Diana's own sharp hooves. The female lifted her left forehoof stiffly to her chest. Full attention directed at Himmel, she stomped the ground. A feminine snort escaped her blackened nose, and again she pounded the ground once with her left hoof. Can he not get the message? A snort followed the action once more. Didn't he realize what he was doing, desecrating their place of worship? A sharp warning 'bark' broke the sharp rhythm of the tapping for a moment.
Grass was crushed under her hooves as Diana moved toward the disrespectful beast. Do you not know what you're doing? The gentle sound of her speech was tinged now with a sour, angry tone. What do you have against our Gods, buck? Did that word fit to call him, since she saw no horns? It didn't matter at the moment.
He jumped when he saw her

The stag rested against the grass, feeling the earth shift upward to hold the weight of the twin statues. He half watched a doe kneel before them, praying, as they all seemed to do. Was it custom here? He wasn't sure. Of the few he had met, none of them specified if a religion was necessary here. Maybe it was? He rose to his hooves, turning his masked face to really watch her. She was deer faced, nothing much more than a common brown doe. He could have mistaken her for any of the does he had seen in his lifetime, but there was something about her pelt that was different. Maybe the color tone? It did seem lighter than the does he remembered. It was certainly plainer than any he had met so far.
Why was that? Tentatively he started toward her, not completely aware of what, exactly, he was doing. Talk to her? Question her? Maybe. He didn't know if he had it in him to start a conversation, let alone start a random conversation with the doe.
Instead of being incredulous,
White tail flagged, the doe positioned herself too close for comfort in an attempt to intimidate the deer that was disrespecting her Gods and herself in kind. Move away, or they'll punish you. You selfishly desecrate their world like it was yours. Her threat seemed to be echoed with another crackle of thunder. Such good timing... maybe if this keeps up, things will land in my favor. Thinking such things made the doe giddy and confident.
-----
The female, in the blink of an eye, turned white. For her this signaled the end of her prayer, and as she rose, she took a brief second to sneeze off the white pelt. It was beautiful, like fresh snowflakes, but just not suited for her plainness. Appearing as close to a Nameless as possible was something she was happy with. Magic was neat, but not something she wore daily. What an affront to her mother and father that would have been!
Oh! A quick sound popped from Diana's mouth as she turned to move away and found someone moving toward her. Her ears rose to attention as she watched the male. Oh you silly beast, be nice! The thought pressuring her was enough to cause her to bow in a show of polite greeting once he reached the top of the Hill.
His face turned red with

Diana could smell the electricity, the smoke of the burning tree, and the sweat the stupid deer put off as he attempted to hack into the statues. The Gods would not condone violence. You'll have to pray and wash many times after this. Reminding herself, the doe found that she was in the process of an attempted ramming... did she feel her side connect with his? Was that disorientation the pair of them tumbling down the short side of the hill?
They rolled and tumbled
A cough from lost breath, and
Diana let her body sulk. Eyes filled with sadness, she turned away from the buck and moved off a few feet to throw herself down in a flower patch that was mostly sheltered from the rain that threatened to break from the growling clouds at any moment. A bloody scrape on her back stung as her tongue cleaned away the bark and debris. Out of the corner of the doe's eye, she watched Himmel react.
"There's no way that this is
His words were so confusing.
Rain hissed as it hit the ground, pounding creatures and leaves unlucky to be unsheltered. Diana was suddenly grateful for the sapling and its mother that she took shelter beneath. Her nose was grateful to the rain that washed away the scents of that vial and the stag that hurt himself with it. He may be close by, but he was not going to manipulate her into being sorry for him, no way no how. The doe rose and turned her back to him too, propping her face on a tree root and watching the rain drip from a long blade of grass.
He could feel the drug
He didn't want to believe the doe, the stories he had heard of The Endless Forest were too wonderful to be true. A beautiful forest when fawn are born, and where outsiders come to be healed of ailments. Where the pond water was not stagnant, where a giant oak hummed, and where there was a fountain that changed one into another forest creature. It made him angry that she would lie to him like that. He felt slight guilty for desecrating the statues, for acting like a foolish child. He blamed that on withdrawal.

Diana craned her neck to nip
White light squealed as the spell was cast at its mark. Do you believe me now, buck?
A warm light bathed his
"If this is The Endless Forest then how did I get here?"
The doe shrugged. I do not
Idly, Diana prodded Why did you hurt yourself, buck? She had nothing else to call him by, so that would have to do... buck.
He thought for a moment, "I
"Stop calling me 'buck', it's Himmel, and I was giving myself a dose of heroin. And why do you care anyway? You nearly killed me earlier!"
It stunk Himmel. Heroin... if
So he was sick in the head... had to have poppies to live... what a meeting.
"Yes, it is like poppies," he
"The tumble wasn't bad, but hitting the tree was!" he snapped.
Your body won't remember it
The rain still poured down, making Diana hesitant to leave the shelter of the tree. She hesitated to even speak more to the grumpy beast. And being out in the rain won't help. You'll catch something. Suddenly feeling submissive, she looked at the ground. I'm horrible... should pray and wash so many times for this... I can't believe what I did!
OOC: I added a bit more.
"I'll figure it out," he huffed. He looked out into the distance and said,"I...I apologize for nearly destroying your statues." He seemed guilty, he was finally at the place he used to dream about, and he was running around trying to destroy it. "I deserved what you did." He stared at her with glazed over eyes, the heroin was settling in his system. His demeanor changed from grumpy to calm.
He looked at the ground, and dug a small hole, threw the needle in, and buried it. There was no use for it.
He looks like this. The stag
The stag faltered as she bowed, somewhat taken aback by her kindness. She could have easily ignored him or fled from his presence. Yet, she didn't. He stared at her a moment, blinking as the gears of his mind tried to understand the complexity of bowing. He knew how to bow as a person, but as a deer...how were those front legs supposed to work? His eyes darted behind his mask, going from the doe's face to his own forelegs, his head tilting slightly as he tried to fathom the situation. A heartbeat later he tried to give her a bow in return, though it was poorly done and somewhat hasty since he felt the protocol for bowing only went on for a few seconds at best, not the near half minute it took him to finally understand.
Actaeon regained his original position, feeling himself panicking as he glanced from the doe to the statues. Talk. Say something.
"....May I ask who it is you are praying to?" he tried to make his voice sound less gruff and more...friendly, years of yelling and swearing at other men seemed to have taken that away. He really didn't know how to talk to women anymore. Let alone have a harmless conversation that didn't involve himself dancing out of the way of another's blade, or trying to decipher their ulterior motive.
{e} Had to fix something.
You knew no better... but I
Quickly, an important question came to the doe's mind: How much do you know about this place?
--------
Who? This deer must be new. Seems she was meeting new deer every day now. The Gods. Diana did not offer much more explanation than that, mainly because it would take a very long time to do so. Brown eyes studied the other, gathering information on him. Nope, certainly was not from the forest! You're new? Oh how blunt, Diana. The gentle doe was only being curious, but all the same she was slightly sounding her age: young. The doe was really only fresh into her womanhood.
Diana's tail wriggled momentarily as she peered between him and her Gods. Hopefully, unlike last time, there would be no attempt at harming the bright and precious marble idols. The whitetail tried to appear without the nervousness that tickled the back of her mind.
The Gods. This new
Yet, women took rudeness differently, "I...yes. I guess I am. I don't know much about this...place." What was it called? The Forest?
He is new! Maybe... maybe I
No need to scare him off, Dia. She chastised herself inside. Ahm... I am Diana. You are... A quick pause as she deciphered his pictogram... which could be unnerving if you had not met a deer that could read before. Actaeon, right? Pardon if I am wrong, I'm still learning symbols. A bob of her head accompanied the word 'pardon.' With these new types of symbols being made, Diana still had much to learn.
Umm... I thought I might ask, since it is not really received well when not accompanied by the question... Would you happen to be in need of help? Pardon... but you appear confused.
He looked up at her, " All I

The rain thrummed on steadily.
I could help, you know, until you find a way out... umm... The doe suddenly darted out into the downpour. It was a slight bit of time until she returned with a leaf in her mouth. Something was concealed inside. Diana had wrapped it so she wouldn't touch it with her tongue, lest she get lost too. Several very small mushrooms now littered the ground in front of Himmel. I think one of these is plenty. Made the mistake of eating these over the ones on the trees when I was a fawn. Let's just say I did some regrettable things that day. Ears pinned at the memory briefly. They are the ones that grow in fairy rings. Potent magic. Maybe they're like yours. Only less stinky!
He seemed slightly hesitant
He looked down at his filthy clothes. "Isn't there a pond here?"
The doe sensed his
His question brought her eyes back to his form. Yes, there is. It's on the other side of the hill. A pause as she thought of another idea. But if you walk a little more, the Crying Idol is a better place to clean up and get a drink. It is cooler, though, than the pond. Her mind was running off again, but it didn't take much to pull it back once she realized it.
"It's alright," he said after
Did a fawn tell you that? She
The sound of trickling water, much louder than it should have been, closed in on the pair. The trees created an amplifier in the forest, allowing the sounds to carry far and wide. Even a little later, the rushing of the Idol was enough to fill the ears of the pair. Peering through the trees, the gray stone could be seen shining beautifully though it cried as if it had been insulted and trapped in depression.
"Maybe my ancestors where
When he saw the Crying Idol, he became excited. He wanted to rush over, but knew better. When they made it to the Idol, he places his head under its tears. The cool water soaked his head and neck, as well as his clothes, but he didn't care. He drank quickly and began to cough, choking from the water entering his windpipe.
The doe laughed, calling for
Diana waded into the river and let her body be soaked by the other eye's tears, rubbing against the stone to scrub off any dirt or bark that still clung from the fall. She let it run over her face to clean anything that might be there, mostly magic residue from the mask. What do you think of this place, Himmel? Diana prodded as she pulled herself onto the bank to dry. Her mask lay dormant at her side.
OOC: I added a bit more.
"It's beautiful," he said. But he knew that was the heroin talking; such a high dose made him kind, but he knew it would wear off, and he would probably hate the place again. He wanted to take off his dank and dirty clothes, but he felt it would be indecent, especially in front of a doe. He loosened his tie and sat down, nearly falling into the river.
"I never caught your name, by the way," he said sitting beside her. He was glad that he made at least one acquaintance here, and he would miss her when he found a way out of this place.
Confused was an
The Twin Gods...he latched onto that fragment of thought, wondering what these twins expected him to do. Probably believe in them over his other Gods. That was if they still existed somewhere. Maybe they didn't really exist here. Maybe they were gone. The thought concerned him and he pushed it away long enough to realize she had said his name. He felt shock travel down his spine, probably unsettling the fur there. How did she know his name? The symbol? What symbol? Her next question put a stop to his wondering, causing him to focus on the subject.
"I honestly have no idea what I am doing here," he answered softly, "I know, very, very little about this Forest. I don't even know where to begin asking you for help." his last words were accompanied by a shake of his head and a sigh.
I'm Diana. At least that was
--------
Yep. New. Well first... umm... how much do you know about yourself? I mean.... here yourself, not whom or what you were in where you came from? She noted his slight fear at her speaking his name. Inwardly, a new rule was created: not to speak names to new folk that didn't know of pictograms. By the way, you can ask anything you want. I grew up here, so... I could probably answer. Diana let her ears relax so as to appear less hyper and maybe even threatening. He was confused, and a hyperactive happiness could create negative responses.
"This?" He asked tugging at
Please forgive my lack of
He just stared at her. His...hereself? She might as well have been talking gibberish. He still considered himself whole, just one person. But...but the past him was dead. He was almost certain of it.
"I just woke up like this...with this mask and scarf and body," he replied, "I feel like myself just in a different body. And in a different place." he paused, thinking. He could ask her anything about this place, but The Twins he wanted to understand about the most. "Is...is it all right if I asked you about your Gods? Who are they? What do they expect me to do to...to appease them?"
Clothes? What a word... oh.
I'm rambling. Diana finished suddenly. Clothes were odd. Things from outside the forest were odd. Her body splayed out on the grass like a rug, the doe sighed and looked to Himmel, awaiting something. She didn't know what, but her brain was loaded and she needed something to happen.
-----
Yep, like Himmel. The stag was just here and confounded. Diana was immediately drawn to her massive array of questions... but immediately jerked back to his question. They're our Gods... it's fine to ask about them! Umm... let's see... The doe closed her eyes for a moment.
The Gods are the creators of our world. They are our protectors and most likely the ones that saved you from wherever you were. They often show up here as two giant deer with human faces that like to roam around and create fantastic magic displays called Abiogenesis. The weather here only changes when they want it to, and they often accompany weather changes with gifts, like candles or allowing fawns to wear magic for long times. They watch over orphaned fawns...
Appeasing them is easy! You just have to thank them... pray... be happy... and live. I personally take it to a bit of an extreme with some of my monastic behaviors. I'm just very grateful to them for caring for me when I was young. What a thing to admit to a total stranger!
OOC: I just wanted to say
"That's strange how naked here is without magic, so would that technically mean I'm naked?" he laughed,"Though I do have markings, I suppose they're unnatural though, but that's how I was born. My parents had simple pelts with no markings, so mine are quite a mystery." He reached into his pants pocket, and pulled out his wallet. He opened and pulled a photo from one of the pockets, and handed it to her. "Those are my biological parents." Though the photo was black and white, one could tell that the father and mother were the same blonde as Himmel. All three were huddled together in the photo. "And these are my adoptive parents." He pulled out another, and handed it to her. In this photo, he was sitting between and human man and women, and the way he was sitting in the photo made him look like a human as well, even with his ears, hooves, and the remains of his sawed off antlers.
The photos were truly
OOC: It's really no problem. I'm enjoying it as well, and I am excited to see Diana being defined like she is.
OOC: I added a bit more.
"They're humans," he said, "And I suppose, they took care of me when my parents couldn't. Put me through school, and then I joined the military. I suppose I'm the way I am because if you're different, you're pretty much nothing. I mean, to other humans I'm a genetic mutation, or human and deer breeding, but because of my hair and eye color, I am an ideal as well. I guess I fit into a theories of the old, master race, so they tell me. They think maybe they stemmed from us, or what not. But that theory is what let me live a normal life."
He looked down at his wallet; it was made of a fine leather. Inside there was money, a few other pictures, and his identification. The swastika was clearly defined on his identification card, his name, age, address, and rank were beside it. He handed her his wallet. "I'm sure you've never seen a wallet," he said. "It's made of leather."
They sounded easy to keep
