Developing Diana (Roleplay!)

Apoidea's picture
My heart thrums softly, gently. It feels like a gentle tapping in my chest, but this inconsequential tap is what keeps me alive. It's important.

Grasses swayed in the early spring breeze as a doe stood grazing. The squeaking rip of grass being pulled from itself wasn't loud unless you looked for it... or maybe were a rabbit. She did not seem to disturb the nearby lapin, who chewed on some dandelion shoots. Diana felt a kinship with the small beast, even if it was just because she shared a brunch with him. Oddly, the doe even thanked her company for enjoying the spring morning with her as he slowly moved off. Maybe that ear-flick was a goodbye in kind... she mused, returning to browsing for the meal.

Mushrooms made a fine main course, and a drink of sweet cool water ended the meal as a palate cleanser. Sand sucked at her toes as she sucked in drought after drought of the icy spring pondwater, flicking her fluffy tail gently to ward off early flies. Her tail, however, would not ward off the frog that had misjudged a jump and bumped into her back leg. Oops! The doe giggled, moving her hoof so the little squishy being had a path into the water. She interpreted a croak from the amphibian as a thank you and a pardon. Unless he's mad at me for being in the way? I sure hope frogs really are kind creatures. I hope your day gets better! Watch out for fish and birds! He left her for the water with a plop.

Water dripped from the whiskers on her chin as the doe raised her head to scan the area around her. Frogs chirped, trees swayed and creaked, and birds flew from reed to reed as they gobbled bugs. The water lapped at the sand around her hooves, sucking like a hungry fawn. The feeling was entertaining, eliciting another giggle. Diana turned away, then, and began to head up the hill toward the statues that portrayed crudely the forms of gods.

White marble figures that weighed more than an irish elk stood proudly on a high hill to survey their realm. Inhabitants would come and pray, only to be choked by blue smoke and then turned blinding white. This spell was great fun to play tag with, Diana had found as a fawn. It also made her feel closer to the twin guardians of her home.

Quietly and with reverence the doe approached the statues and kneeled in front of them with her nose to the grass. She prayed.

Please, if you want to RP here do your best. Be literate, be coherent, and be considerate of Diana. I would prefer a RP that would help to develop her, not just a meaningless interaction.

He woke up in a complete and utter daze. His head ached and throbbed. He could feel cool, damp grass beneath his cheek, and could smell the air thick with sweet perfum. He opened his eyes, and quickly shut them again for the sun was blinding. He tried again and allowed his eye sight to adjust. He thought his glasses were on, but they were not. They lie beside him broken, as if someone trampled them by mistake. He was bewildered, how could he see without his glasses? He slowly rose, gently picking up the remains of his glasses. He didn't realize how much his body ached as he bent, and how much he was sweating; his clothes were drenched. He shoved his glasses in his pants pocket. He huffed angrily, and tore off his sweat drenched coat. He gazed at the site before him: it was endless amount of trees and flowers, with butterflies and bees dancing around them. The forest was lush, wet, and green, as if it had just rained. He huffed again, "I hate the forest."

A grumble floated on the

A grumble floated on the wind, words that weren't very pleasant. Did the doe hear something? Four hooves silently collided with the grass. Big brown eyes gazed around her, the fog of an unfinished prayer still hovering around her head and slightly clouding her vision. A black blur lay at the bottom of the hill, the opposite side to which she climbed up from. Sneaking, Diana moved tightly against the marble statue and peered around the edge. The smoke cleared from her eyes on an unusual and intriguing sight.

That deer! What was all over him? The black substance was wet and clung to him. Was it hurting him? The long white hairs bristled all over her tail. Hurting was just one of those words that made it do that. The doe licked her lips and hid herself fully again, trying to think of a solution. Should she try to help?

He tossed his damp jacket

He tossed his damp jacket onto the ground, and scanned the forest. He saw a few fawn playing and wrestling with one another, a saw a few stags resting. They didn't seem to notice him. He continued to look around, and ontop of a hill he saw two white statues. He found them to be ugly and pagan, and yet he felt slightly drawn to them. He decided he would try to blend in with the others, and went on all fours. He slowly dragged himself up the hill to get a better look at the statues. He thought he saw a head peer around one, but brushed it off as a curious fawn.

He stared face to face at one of the statues, examining it closely. It was made of a fine white marble with flecks of gold and silver that seemed to dance when the sun's rays met them. "What wonderful marble", he thought. "It could be worth something," he said, and began to strike the statue with his sharp hoof.

OOC: I added a bit more. Smiling

The doe moved off a bit as he

The doe moved off a bit as he approached, careful to make it look like she was minding her own business. Diana spent a moment nibbling the grass nearby until the deer from before her ears were assaulted. Whirling around, the whitetail was not prepared for the sight that met her eyes.

A deer was actually striking the statues! What did he have against the Gods? The marble that was so smooth was starting to change beneath his hoof... become scratched. Marble was a strong stone and she didn't worry about it breaking, but it was disrespectful all the same. Is he ignorant?! the thought flooded through her brain and set her normally gentle demeanor ablaze. The tingle of anger rolled through each tan hair and all the way down to Diana's own sharp hooves. The female lifted her left forehoof stiffly to her chest. Full attention directed at Himmel, she stomped the ground. A feminine snort escaped her blackened nose, and again she pounded the ground once with her left hoof. Can he not get the message? A snort followed the action once more. Didn't he realize what he was doing, desecrating their place of worship? A sharp warning 'bark' broke the sharp rhythm of the tapping for a moment.

Grass was crushed under her hooves as Diana moved toward the disrespectful beast. Do you not know what you're doing? The gentle sound of her speech was tinged now with a sour, angry tone. What do you have against our Gods, buck? Did that word fit to call him, since she saw no horns? It didn't matter at the moment.

He jumped when he saw her

He jumped when he saw her approach. He pulled his ears back in anger at her words. He stood straight and puffed his chest out (though sadly it didn't make him much larger since he was rather frail), "Your 'gods' are not even real. There's only one God. And who're you to speak to me in such a manner? Especially a DOE. If I want some of this marble, I can take it." He resumed jabbing away at the precious statues. Thunder began to rumble in the distance.

I would love to RP, I just have to find out which one wants to meet her more. Alright, Actaeon wins at this moment in time. If my muse dies I might toss another character in her direction.

The stag rested against the grass, feeling the earth shift upward to hold the weight of the twin statues. He half watched a doe kneel before them, praying, as they all seemed to do. Was it custom here? He wasn't sure. Of the few he had met, none of them specified if a religion was necessary here. Maybe it was? He rose to his hooves, turning his masked face to really watch her. She was deer faced, nothing much more than a common brown doe. He could have mistaken her for any of the does he had seen in his lifetime, but there was something about her pelt that was different. Maybe the color tone? It did seem lighter than the does he remembered. It was certainly plainer than any he had met so far.

Why was that? Tentatively he started toward her, not completely aware of what, exactly, he was doing. Talk to her? Question her? Maybe. He didn't know if he had it in him to start a conversation, let alone start a random conversation with the doe.

Instead of being incredulous,

Instead of being incredulous, the female just snorted. Of course the Gods are real, buck. If they weren't no one, least at all YOU, would be here to show the light above your head. Another tap of her hoof against the ground in protest before she spoke again. Who are you to just waltz in here and take what belongs to the Gods and the Forest? YOU, buck, need to give up on pointless endeavors. Back off. The thunder may have urged her on in the moment, but as it moved closer, she began to feel the electricity dance in the air. Her fur tingled with it.

White tail flagged, the doe positioned herself too close for comfort in an attempt to intimidate the deer that was disrespecting her Gods and herself in kind. Move away, or they'll punish you. You selfishly desecrate their world like it was yours. Her threat seemed to be echoed with another crackle of thunder. Such good timing... maybe if this keeps up, things will land in my favor. Thinking such things made the doe giddy and confident.

-----

The female, in the blink of an eye, turned white. For her this signaled the end of her prayer, and as she rose, she took a brief second to sneeze off the white pelt. It was beautiful, like fresh snowflakes, but just not suited for her plainness. Appearing as close to a Nameless as possible was something she was happy with. Magic was neat, but not something she wore daily. What an affront to her mother and father that would have been!

Oh! A quick sound popped from Diana's mouth as she turned to move away and found someone moving toward her. Her ears rose to attention as she watched the male. Oh you silly beast, be nice! The thought pressuring her was enough to cause her to bow in a show of polite greeting once he reached the top of the Hill.

His face turned red with

His face turned red with anger, he wished he hadn't had his antlers sawed off so he could intimidate her. "I can do what I please, I have superiority over you. This is Germany, I'm an officer, and can do what I want!" He assumed he wandered into the woods after a long night of drinking, and somehow found a tribe of Deer that was missed by the missionaries. He snorted and turned his hind side to the statues and began kicking at them with full force. Lighting flashed and lit up the sky as he did so. The hairs on his body stood as the air was filled with static.
Apoidea's picture

The first strike against the

The first strike against the statues was more than enough to cause something to snap in her brain. You ignorant TOAD! THIS is the ENDLESS FOREST! Each subsequent kick made her entire body twitch in a mix of sympathetic pain for the precious statues and seething anger for the one who was attacking them. Diana was losing the little composure she had left. She had a mind to strike him herself. Fortunately the lightning had similar plans, cracking into a tree not too far off. It broke, crashing into another. The second tree caught it, but the one that had been struck seemed to crackle and groan in pain as both were whipped by the wind. The storm was growing in strength. The center clouds seemed to inch closer by the second, like hungry dogs.

Diana could smell the electricity, the smoke of the burning tree, and the sweat the stupid deer put off as he attempted to hack into the statues. The Gods would not condone violence. You'll have to pray and wash many times after this. Reminding herself, the doe found that she was in the process of an attempted ramming... did she feel her side connect with his? Was that disorientation the pair of them tumbling down the short side of the hill?

They rolled and tumbled

They rolled and tumbled horribly down the hill. He could feel the rocks jan at his body as he rolled onto them. He suddenly crashed against a hard surface, pushing the air from his lungs. A grand tree stop their tumbling, but not without some pain. He gasped desperately as he tried to regain himself. Once he was able to breath he stood up and let ou such a horrible bellow at the young doe that even the butterflies flew off in fear. He wanted to strike her so badly, but remembered what he was taught he didn't. He was so enraged he couldn't even speak.
Apoidea's picture

A cough from lost breath, and

A cough from lost breath, and Diana stood. She let the bellowing sound wash over her, ears ringing with it and the pain of landing at the bottom of the hill. Sound was king right now, her huffing obscuring her pounding heart. She had just hit a buck. I just hurt him. Diana's gentle eyes looked up at him with conviction. You are done being so selfish now, correct? Her words tumbled out breathily, laced with both acid and command. Battered and bruised, the doe rose to her full height and stood in front of him. You come here from this Germany, claim you have rights to own any rock, tree, leaf, or statue. You denounce our Gods and try to desecrate their place of worship... claiming that because you are an officer, you can do so. I have no clue what this title of "Officer" means or has to do with anything, but it gets you nothing here. I'm sorry if you are confused, but this isn't Germany. Her words softened at the last sentence. No matter how grand you were there, you aren't that here. I apologize that it took violence to get you to stop.

Diana let her body sulk. Eyes filled with sadness, she turned away from the buck and moved off a few feet to throw herself down in a flower patch that was mostly sheltered from the rain that threatened to break from the growling clouds at any moment. A bloody scrape on her back stung as her tongue cleaned away the bark and debris. Out of the corner of the doe's eye, she watched Himmel react.

"There's no way that this is

"There's no way that this is 'The Endless Forest'! That's a lie told you young children so that they can have sweet dreams!" he barked. "And your apology isn't acceted, you wretched thing!" He slowly made his way away from her, but his backed ached horribly and he stumbled onto the ground not to far from her. He had his back to her, buried his faced into his arms, and bellowed into the earth. He was trying hard to control his temper. He did this for five minutes, until he reached into his pants pocket, and pulled out a needle. He jabbed himself in his thigh with it, and quickly injected its contents into his blood.
Apoidea's picture

His words were so confusing.

His words were so confusing. Little ones' dreams? You are mistaken. That is where we are. Her resistance to tears wavered with each cry he let out into the soil. Watching as the deer manipulated a shining object... he harmed himself. A disgusting scent made her want to vomit. Ears pinned, the doe hid her own feral head under one foreleg. Why? What is going on here and why am I behaving so irrationally and so hard-headedly? This is so disgusting, Diana... why do you not act properly? The scolding went on and on inside the doe's head, repeating.

Rain hissed as it hit the ground, pounding creatures and leaves unlucky to be unsheltered. Diana was suddenly grateful for the sapling and its mother that she took shelter beneath. Her nose was grateful to the rain that washed away the scents of that vial and the stag that hurt himself with it. He may be close by, but he was not going to manipulate her into being sorry for him, no way no how. The doe rose and turned her back to him too, propping her face on a tree root and watching the rain drip from a long blade of grass.

He could feel the drug

He could feel the drug flowing in his veins, through his heart, and to his brain. He let out a sigh, and opened his eyes. He heard what the doe said and thought, "Could this be The Endless Forest? That could explain my eyesight..."

He didn't want to believe the doe, the stories he had heard of The Endless Forest were too wonderful to be true. A beautiful forest when fawn are born, and where outsiders come to be healed of ailments. Where the pond water was not stagnant, where a giant oak hummed, and where there was a fountain that changed one into another forest creature. It made him angry that she would lie to him like that. He felt slight guilty for desecrating the statues, for acting like a foolish child. He blamed that on withdrawal.

Diana craned her neck to nip

Diana craned her neck to nip a mushroom from the tree she lay under, hoping that it might soak up some of the bile in her stomach. It did, and opened up her ability to use a mask spell at the same time. The doe masticated the mushroom, ruminating on its flavor. It was thick and spongy, meaty, nutty... magic. That kind of magic was just right to use. Forgive me for using this in revenge.

White light squealed as the spell was cast at its mark. Do you believe me now, buck?

A warm light bathed his vision, and when it dissipated a lovely mask appeared on his face. He was too calm from his dose to jump in panic. He heard that if one sneezes the mask would disappear. He sneezed, and the mask disappeared from his face. He didn't want to believe it, but he did.
"If this is The Endless Forest then how did I get here?"
Apoidea's picture

The doe shrugged. I do not

The doe shrugged. I do not know. Maybe... people die to get here, sometimes. Sometimes they are transported here... dreams... or like me they're born here. She had learned a lot from just listening to others. Lots of the time she didn't even let them know she listened... walking around in a bunny spell or squirrel spell had its advantages sometimes.

Idly, Diana prodded Why did you hurt yourself, buck? She had nothing else to call him by, so that would have to do... buck.

He thought for a moment, "I

He thought for a moment, "I probably died, considering what I mixed last night."
"Stop calling me 'buck', it's Himmel, and I was giving myself a dose of heroin. And why do you care anyway? You nearly killed me earlier!"

It stunk Himmel. Heroin... if it stinks and it hurt you, why in the name of the Twins would you do it? It... She was slowly piecing two and two together. It's like Poppies, isn't it? Her ears went back, then flicked forward. And I didn't almost kill you. A short tumble down a hill is nothing. Not like we fell from the sky or out of a tree... or off the Ruins... many places were worse than taking a tumble off of the hill.

So he was sick in the head... had to have poppies to live... what a meeting.

"Yes, it is like poppies," he

"Yes, it is like poppies," he said staggering up,"which I probably will resort to eating if I don't leave this place soon." He shuddered at the thought of a withdrawal, especially since that was his last dose. The withdrawals were horrible, but he hoped the large dose would last a day or so.
"The tumble wasn't bad, but hitting the tree was!" he snapped.

Your body won't remember it

Your body won't remember it in two days tops. She said, hopping to her eight toes as he staggered to his. How do you plan on leaving anyway? Nobody she knew of ever left. Well, she didn't know other deer but she never heard of anyone leaving. I don't know if it's even possible, Himmel... sorry.

The rain still poured down, making Diana hesitant to leave the shelter of the tree. She hesitated to even speak more to the grumpy beast. And being out in the rain won't help. You'll catch something. Suddenly feeling submissive, she looked at the ground. I'm horrible... should pray and wash so many times for this... I can't believe what I did!

OOC: I added a bit more.

OOC: I added a bit more. Smiling

"I'll figure it out," he huffed. He looked out into the distance and said,"I...I apologize for nearly destroying your statues." He seemed guilty, he was finally at the place he used to dream about, and he was running around trying to destroy it. "I deserved what you did." He stared at her with glazed over eyes, the heroin was settling in his system. His demeanor changed from grumpy to calm.

He looked at the ground, and dug a small hole, threw the needle in, and buried it. There was no use for it.
Waning-Sun's picture

He looks like this. The stag

He looks like this.

The stag faltered as she bowed, somewhat taken aback by her kindness. She could have easily ignored him or fled from his presence. Yet, she didn't. He stared at her a moment, blinking as the gears of his mind tried to understand the complexity of bowing. He knew how to bow as a person, but as a deer...how were those front legs supposed to work? His eyes darted behind his mask, going from the doe's face to his own forelegs, his head tilting slightly as he tried to fathom the situation. A heartbeat later he tried to give her a bow in return, though it was poorly done and somewhat hasty since he felt the protocol for bowing only went on for a few seconds at best, not the near half minute it took him to finally understand.

Actaeon regained his original position, feeling himself panicking as he glanced from the doe to the statues. Talk. Say something.
"....May I ask who it is you are praying to?" he tried to make his voice sound less gruff and more...friendly, years of yelling and swearing at other men seemed to have taken that away. He really didn't know how to talk to women anymore. Let alone have a harmless conversation that didn't involve himself dancing out of the way of another's blade, or trying to decipher their ulterior motive.

You knew no better... but I

You knew no better... but I did. Sorry for getting so swept up with anger. She watched the stag as he buried the thing that made him act so oddly. She was glad it was gone... but worried it may harm the forest. Diana would remember to dig it up later and figure out how to destroy it. Right now, though, she had a deer to attend to. Shame colored her features, changing her entire demeanor. Again the female became the curious and submissive doe she was rightly supposed to be. I lost my temper.

Quickly, an important question came to the doe's mind: How much do you know about this place?

--------

Who? This deer must be new. Seems she was meeting new deer every day now. The Gods. Diana did not offer much more explanation than that, mainly because it would take a very long time to do so. Brown eyes studied the other, gathering information on him. Nope, certainly was not from the forest! You're new? Oh how blunt, Diana. The gentle doe was only being curious, but all the same she was slightly sounding her age: young. The doe was really only fresh into her womanhood.

Diana's tail wriggled momentarily as she peered between him and her Gods. Hopefully, unlike last time, there would be no attempt at harming the bright and precious marble idols. The whitetail tried to appear without the nervousness that tickled the back of her mind.
Waning-Sun's picture

The Gods. This new

The Gods. This new information intrigued him, but helped nothing. Which Gods? Her short answer stopped him from asking any more about them. Maybe you didn't talk about them. Maybe it was wrong to speak of them. He tilted his head to look at the stones, but returned his attention to the doe. She seemed...nervous. Of him? Of the situation? He took a step back, hoping that maybe some more distance between them would stop her from turning tail and fleeing. Again with a short question. If she was male he would have answered in kind, or took that as a note to leave them be.
Yet, women took rudeness differently, "I...yes. I guess I am. I don't know much about this...place." What was it called? The Forest?

He is new! Maybe... maybe I

He is new! Maybe... maybe I have been given a chance to repent by helping someone properly? Oh thank you Twins for saving me! Her eyes lit up at the prospect of helping. Then welcome to the Endless Forest on behalf of The Twin Gods! The welcome was full of sweet cheer. Diana focused completely on her new 'charge' with a look of pure excitement. Suddenly, though, the doe blushed beneath her fur. She was taking this a little too quickly.

No need to scare him off, Dia. She chastised herself inside. Ahm... I am Diana. You are... A quick pause as she deciphered his pictogram... which could be unnerving if you had not met a deer that could read before. Actaeon, right? Pardon if I am wrong, I'm still learning symbols. A bob of her head accompanied the word 'pardon.' With these new types of symbols being made, Diana still had much to learn.

Umm... I thought I might ask, since it is not really received well when not accompanied by the question... Would you happen to be in need of help? Pardon... but you appear confused.

He looked up at her, " All I

He looked up at her, " All I know are the stories told to me by my biological parents. My mother told me that this is where our ancestors came from, and all of the magic that happens here: the mushrooms, the pine cones, the magic fountain, and so on. Nothing really specific. I didn't know there were two gods. But, I believed my mother, but we lived in such squalor who wouldn't? After I was 'rescued' from there, they taught me other things, and I didn't believe in this place anymore." He let out a sigh, and shuffled a bit. His body felt numb from the heroin.
Apoidea's picture

The doe listened quietly. So

The doe listened quietly. So there was a time they could leave? That was truly fascinating. But... losing belief in a place that truly existed? Wow... that must have been some place he used to live in! But... you still want to go back. Why go back to a place that lied to you? Such boldness coming from her mouth unchecked was really not good, but Diana was too much out of her own emotional loop to really check herself... despite the apologies exchanged. You could eat poppies and magic mushrooms here... if you still wanted to get lost. Her term made little sense, but it was how the doe viewed 'high'.

Germany sounded horrible.

"Because I'm needed there, I

"Because I'm needed there, I suppose. Living here would be hard, considering I don't 'act' like a deer. I'm used to modern amenities, like houses, cars, electricity, etc...I probably wouldn't last too long out here." He had to sit down, he couldn't stand anymore. "The poppies and mushrooms probably won't be enough, I'd have to eat a lot to get the high I need." He looked up at the doe, "They took care of me when my parent couldn't, I feel obligated."
Apoidea's picture

No deer has an obligation to

No deer has an obligation to anything but the Gods... The doe muttered. So... these houses and cars and electricity... whatever they were... were important amenities? She spoke up this time: I don't know what any of those things are, but I don't think we have them here and we do well. Diana smiled. Her logic: if she could live here, so could he.

The rain thrummed on steadily.

I could help, you know, until you find a way out... umm... The doe suddenly darted out into the downpour. It was a slight bit of time until she returned with a leaf in her mouth. Something was concealed inside. Diana had wrapped it so she wouldn't touch it with her tongue, lest she get lost too. Several very small mushrooms now littered the ground in front of Himmel. I think one of these is plenty. Made the mistake of eating these over the ones on the trees when I was a fawn. Let's just say I did some regrettable things that day. Ears pinned at the memory briefly. They are the ones that grow in fairy rings. Potent magic. Maybe they're like yours. Only less stinky!

He seemed slightly hesitant

He seemed slightly hesitant to try them. He had heard of soldiers dying eating poisonous mushrooms, and he knew there where some for drug use, but he didn't know which ones. "I probably shouldn't eat them now. I've overdosed before, and that wasn't good." Using his hooves, he picked up a few and placed them in his pocket. "Thank you," he said.

He looked down at his filthy clothes. "Isn't there a pond here?"
Apoidea's picture

The doe sensed his

The doe sensed his hesitation, but didn't comment on it. You're welcome. Her reply was indicative of a wish for trust. Diana realized now that the freak storm had stopped, the rain now only falling from the trees and not the clouds. It was very odd, how even after the rains quit the forest could still seem as if the weather had an echo. Finally, she moved out from under the tree. A big, fat drop that smelled of leaves landed directly on her blackened nose. Mistakenly breathing in the water caused her to sneeze. Pardon. Reflexive use of manners.

His question brought her eyes back to his form. Yes, there is. It's on the other side of the hill. A pause as she thought of another idea. But if you walk a little more, the Crying Idol is a better place to clean up and get a drink. It is cooler, though, than the pond. Her mind was running off again, but it didn't take much to pull it back once she realized it.

"It's alright," he said after

"It's alright," he said after she sneezed. "Could you take me there? To the Crying Idol?" he asked, slowly standing up so as to not lose his balance. His mouth was dry, he didn't realize how thirsty he was, and a refreshing drink of water sounded wonderful at this point. He shook the water dripping onto his hair, "I've heard of the Crying Idol, is it actually living? I was told it was a living beast who cried, creating a small river to the pond."
Apoidea's picture

Did a fawn tell you that? She

Did a fawn tell you that? She giggled, motioning for him to follow. The pace was not very quick, so as to allow Himmel to be comfortable walking. No, it's a carved monolith. Fawns here are told that it once lived, but I am unsure as to how true the story might be. It isn't like the Gods, whom we see moving through the forest on occasion, both within the statues and as huge deer like us. Diana shook her head lightly, dislodging another droplet of water from her eyelash. Maybe I need to wash my face...

The sound of trickling water, much louder than it should have been, closed in on the pair. The trees created an amplifier in the forest, allowing the sounds to carry far and wide. Even a little later, the rushing of the Idol was enough to fill the ears of the pair. Peering through the trees, the gray stone could be seen shining beautifully though it cried as if it had been insulted and trapped in depression.

"Maybe my ancestors where

"Maybe my ancestors where fawn when they came, but who knows?"

When he saw the Crying Idol, he became excited. He wanted to rush over, but knew better. When they made it to the Idol, he places his head under its tears. The cool water soaked his head and neck, as well as his clothes, but he didn't care. He drank quickly and began to cough, choking from the water entering his windpipe.

The doe laughed, calling for him to be careful how much he drank quickly. Quietly and deftly she removed her magical mask, revealing her natural-born humanoid face. The mask took on it's real shape, a fold piece of bark covered in runes and bound to red ribbon... a fancy version of the real deer mask, most adequately described as. For a moment she felt funny, used to seeing her nose at the end of a snout.

Diana waded into the river and let her body be soaked by the other eye's tears, rubbing against the stone to scrub off any dirt or bark that still clung from the fall. She let it run over her face to clean anything that might be there, mostly magic residue from the mask. What do you think of this place, Himmel? Diana prodded as she pulled herself onto the bank to dry. Her mask lay dormant at her side.

"It's beautiful," he said. But he knew that was the heroin talking; such a high dose made him kind, but he knew it would wear off, and he would probably hate the place again. He wanted to take off his dank and dirty clothes, but he felt it would be indecent, especially in front of a doe. He loosened his tie and sat down, nearly falling into the river.

"I never caught your name, by the way," he said sitting beside her. He was glad that he made at least one acquaintance here, and he would miss her when he found a way out of this place.

Confused was an

Confused was an understatement. He had yet found a way to truly grasp where he was or what was expected of him. At least with the Romans he had had an idea, but the Forest with all of its strange creatures, its foreign Gods and customs he wouldn't even begin to understand, he was at a lost. It made no sense to him.
The Twin Gods...he latched onto that fragment of thought, wondering what these twins expected him to do. Probably believe in them over his other Gods. That was if they still existed somewhere. Maybe they didn't really exist here. Maybe they were gone. The thought concerned him and he pushed it away long enough to realize she had said his name. He felt shock travel down his spine, probably unsettling the fur there. How did she know his name? The symbol? What symbol? Her next question put a stop to his wondering, causing him to focus on the subject.
"I honestly have no idea what I am doing here," he answered softly, "I know, very, very little about this Forest. I don't even know where to begin asking you for help." his last words were accompanied by a shake of his head and a sigh.

I'm Diana. At least that was

I'm Diana. At least that was what I read. The doe rolled her eyes up to look at her pictogram, glowing above her head. She did not know if outsiders saw pictograms, but she saw them... on everyone. It was more natural to smile with human lips, so when she did so it felt right. It also found her feeling lost, and feeling as if by missing her mask she wasn't whole, even though she did know that it was just magic. Maybe this was bred into Diana by her parents. Anyway, she stretched a hoof out and pulled her mask close, ducking her head to put it on. As soon as her mask was situated firmly, her deer face appeared. What... umm... is that black stuff? She queried out of nowhere, meaning his clothing.

--------

Yep. New. Well first... umm... how much do you know about yourself? I mean.... here yourself, not whom or what you were in where you came from? She noted his slight fear at her speaking his name. Inwardly, a new rule was created: not to speak names to new folk that didn't know of pictograms. By the way, you can ask anything you want. I grew up here, so... I could probably answer. Diana let her ears relax so as to appear less hyper and maybe even threatening. He was confused, and a hyperactive happiness could create negative responses.

"This?" He asked tugging at

"This?" He asked tugging at his clothes. "They're clothes. They cover you body for warmth, and so you won't be naked," he said. He looked at her, "Where I am from it's indecent to be naked. No one wears clothes here at all?" He wished he could take his off; they were soaked with sweat and water, and began to feel sticky, and they were covered in dirt and grass stains.

Please forgive my lack of voice color!

He just stared at her. His...hereself? She might as well have been talking gibberish. He still considered himself whole, just one person. But...but the past him was dead. He was almost certain of it.
"I just woke up like this...with this mask and scarf and body," he replied, "I feel like myself just in a different body. And in a different place." he paused, thinking. He could ask her anything about this place, but The Twins he wanted to understand about the most. "Is...is it all right if I asked you about your Gods? Who are they? What do they expect me to do to...to appease them?"

Clothes? What a word... oh.

Clothes? What a word... oh. They were to keep warm. Well, if he had fur he should be fine. Clothes aren't a necessity here when you have a pelt! Naked? Well, she was fine with being naked, in forest context anyway. Naked in his context just seemed silly. You wouldn't be naked if you didn't have clothes... umm... we normally don't wear clothes here. Maybe there are a few exceptions... but fur warms us fine. A less-natural smile appeared on her deer face. Naked here, to those born without fantastic patterns... means without magic, more specifically pelt magic. I'm considered naked. The Nameless deer without pictograms are considered naked too, but they can't even hold magic.

I'm rambling.
Diana finished suddenly. Clothes were odd. Things from outside the forest were odd. Her body splayed out on the grass like a rug, the doe sighed and looked to Himmel, awaiting something. She didn't know what, but her brain was loaded and she needed something to happen.

-----

Yep, like Himmel. The stag was just here and confounded. Diana was immediately drawn to her massive array of questions... but immediately jerked back to his question. They're our Gods... it's fine to ask about them! Umm... let's see... The doe closed her eyes for a moment.

The Gods are the creators of our world. They are our protectors and most likely the ones that saved you from wherever you were. They often show up here as two giant deer with human faces that like to roam around and create fantastic magic displays called Abiogenesis. The weather here only changes when they want it to, and they often accompany weather changes with gifts, like candles or allowing fawns to wear magic for long times. They watch over orphaned fawns...

Appeasing them is easy! You just have to thank them... pray... be happy... and live. I personally take it to a bit of an extreme with some of my monastic behaviors. I'm just very grateful to them for caring for me when I was young.
What a thing to admit to a total stranger!

OOC: I just wanted to say

OOC: I just wanted to say thank you for being so helpful before, and that I am really enjoying this rp. Smiling

"That's strange how naked here is without magic, so would that technically mean I'm naked?" he laughed,"Though I do have markings, I suppose they're unnatural though, but that's how I was born. My parents had simple pelts with no markings, so mine are quite a mystery." He reached into his pants pocket, and pulled out his wallet. He opened and pulled a photo from one of the pockets, and handed it to her. "Those are my biological parents." Though the photo was black and white, one could tell that the father and mother were the same blonde as Himmel. All three were huddled together in the photo. "And these are my adoptive parents." He pulled out another, and handed it to her. In this photo, he was sitting between and human man and women, and the way he was sitting in the photo made him look like a human as well, even with his ears, hooves, and the remains of his sawed off antlers.

The photos were truly

The photos were truly fascinating. The doe didn't know what to think of the humans at all, though. What were your adoptive parents? Oh how blunt she was at times! Each photo contained a Himmel, but two different kinds of parents. Diana remembered her real parents being deer like her, and the Gods were deer too... was Himmel just weird? He was, but not in the bad way. Different. Do you act like them? This would explain so much.

OOC: It's really no problem. I'm enjoying it as well, and I am excited to see Diana being defined like she is.

OOC: I added a bit more.

OOC: I added a bit more. Smiling

"They're humans," he said, "And I suppose, they took care of me when my parents couldn't. Put me through school, and then I joined the military. I suppose I'm the way I am because if you're different, you're pretty much nothing. I mean, to other humans I'm a genetic mutation, or human and deer breeding, but because of my hair and eye color, I am an ideal as well. I guess I fit into a theories of the old, master race, so they tell me. They think maybe they stemmed from us, or what not. But that theory is what let me live a normal life."

He looked down at his wallet; it was made of a fine leather. Inside there was money, a few other pictures, and his identification. The swastika was clearly defined on his identification card, his name, age, address, and rank were beside it. He handed her his wallet. "I'm sure you've never seen a wallet," he said. "It's made of leather."

They sounded easy to keep

They sounded easy to keep happy, he had to admit. If anything at all they sounded nicer than the Gods he knew. "Do they require you to pray at certain times? Do they want you to give them an offering?" They changed the weather, too? This interested him. They sounded like they had complete control of this world, but did that include them too? "Do they control us?" he whispered, looking up to stare at the trees, the sky, the area around them. Had he just come from one bad place to another place that controlled him too?
