Deer in the garden again! 8D

In the winter, with the frozen ground and thick snow that makes it hard for small birds to find food, we have the habit or tradition of feeding the birds sunflower seeds.

Apparently, not only the birds like those seeds. Today, when I went out to refill for them, I found the tracks and, hm, "presents" of some roe deer. I'm not sure how many, but probably two or three deer had been there some time between last evening and this morning.

Another person also had roe deer in their garden recently, feeding on sunflower seeds meant for the birds. I saw it in today's local newspaper (well, yes, this is a very small society). The person had also managed taking some really cute photographs on that roe deer, when it fed on the seeds and also when it actually slept in the garden.

I got so excited when I too found that a deer had been in my garden! Sunflower seeds seem to be very popular.

Lucky you! The only thing we have around here are possums and armadillos, and you don't even see them that much because they're always deep in the woods. Eye

If I'd ever see an armadillo

If I'd ever see an armadillo or possum in the forest here I'd die from excitement XD

I forgot to mention we have a lot of turtles here too. I always see them crossing the streets in my neighborhood.

It's pretty funny, one actually climbed all the way up a hill and got on my doorstep. We found out that turtles have this neat ability where they know that it's about to rain hard and so they go uphill, so that's what the little guy was doing.

Still, I wish I could see a wild deer here, but we have too many stinkin' hunters that kill them.

Oh, hunting is horrible when people do it for fun or only to "reduce the amount", I think killing other animals than cattle now a days is unnecessary except for extreme situations such as being lost in the forest...

Those turtles sound just like the toads, lizards and frogs we have around here! They keep coming into the basement during summer... it's kinda funny too. ^^ I'd like to see a wild turtle other than on TV once...

Well, it is necessary to

Well, it is necessary to occasionally thin them out, maybe one or two months a year, but there has to be a balance.Too many deer living in one place would end up starving, and too little would mean their natural predators wouldn't have as much to eat, causing them to search around for what they need, possibly wandering into towns by accident and getting killed by people who think that they'll get mauled.
