Well it was dark at least, surprisingly so when I instanciated. I thought I even saw a bat, although I may have been imagining that. But it was certainly dark, and looked a bit nippy, and I wondered if I'd see any others awake at all on such a night.
No sooner had I started to wander the darkened forestthough than there was the sound of hooves and I was joined by Eris and Valaire.
Meeting-frolicking ensued, followed by a greetings-nuzzle. It's always so nice bumping into other deer in the forest, everyone's so pleased to see one another and joyous in greeting. If only humans were as welcoming and pleased to see one another. Mind you it's probably for the best that they aren't, imagine how chaotic it'd be in Basingstoke town centre if everyone was frolicking and nuzzling all the time. And glowing.
It is rather lovely though. Very shortly we were joined by Widmung and there was more leaping, nuzzling and glowing.
Followed by a not inconsiderable amount of circle-dancing. The previously chilly-seeming night was warmed by dancing, good company and all manner of good-natured frivolity.
Including the ever-popular interpenetrating with a tree, with which we all joined in with alacrity. It made me laugh to see a row of deer butts all sticking out of the tree with their little tails wiggling. I think that little tail wiggle is one of my favourite aspects of the deer animation.
Even amongst all this amiable silliness Valaire found a moment to look properly imposing with that long mask and those scary blood red antlers.
More dancing followed, and of course a bit more frolicking. One can never have too much frolicking. (Except maybe in Basingstoke town centre). I apologise for being the only one not frolicking in this picture, I have not yet developeed sufficient dexterity to frolic and get a screenshot at the same time.
We ran for a while and then gathered at the boundary of magical reality. Deer flickered back and forth between their magically-expressed exterior appearance and their natural deer base. It all looked rather impressive, there amongst the mist.
As we were there it would have been rude not to have a nice drink of trip-water and see which little beasts we'd all become. Would I be my usual frog yet again, or maybe something cute and fluffy? Would we all be cute and adorable?
Aaa I'm a little squirrel this time! Look at my fluffy little tail lol. Looks like Eris got a bunny and Valaire got the frog this time (hey the frog is still adorable). And Widmung the crow.
We decided everyone needed a shower so we collectively hopped and flapped and scurried to the fountain. Although I don't think we were actually dirty, having only existed for a few minutes in our various forms at that point.
"I know, let's all sit with our arses inside the bricks of the fountain". A perfectly normal forest way of thinking.
Eventually we all reverted to base deer form and had a little bit of a base-deer-meeting. "Dude, you look so different". "Oh hey, so do you". And given that things could get a little confusing in that state we all exit the nonmagical zone (inasmuch as a fountain that transforms you into tiny animals can be considered nonmagical, I suppose) and resume our chosen magical externals. But not before I bow to my deer friends and get ready to head off to sleep, as it is getting late in my timezone by now.
And so I head to the little hill to rest, and my deer friends come with me to say goodnight, which is rather lovely. As things tend to be in the forest, I have found.
Rather lovely. <3
Nice screenshots and
Thank you for the wonderful times and I'll see you soon in the Forest!

the crow..

just needed a squirrel and a frog to make up the full set. There are squirrels around, just not out today I guess.
Finding a frog would be a bit more difficult I think!

Aaaa I just love reading
Also aaaa the photos!!! They are so incredibly lovely! I love that the same animals as in TEF has appeared in your yard!
sorry it took me awhile to
and your photography is beautiful Yak, please don't answer if you're not comfortable doing so, but what country are you from? i only ask because your photos are so wonderful, so very different than what things are like where I live. it makes me wonder each time i see one of your photos. the sun, the animals, the green of the grass, its stunning. it must be amazing, yet super rough at the same time, to own animals like your sheep. i could never imagine.

ahah yeah those little back
I was in again tonight but nobody awake when I was there. StillI took some pictures, and I saw some things that I don't yet understand (which seemed to contravene what I thought were rules about how things work)...

ah yes it was a lovely night
And yes of course I don't mind saying where I am. I am in the UK, in Wales, a place that is known for being very rainy, which means there is a lot of verdant greenery around but also that it can be a bit grey and wet and miserable for part of the year. But it also means that when the sun does come out it can feel like a paradise. Green and beautiful and full of life.
It is also a place that is known for there being a lot of sheep but most of them are farmed commercially, and that is nice in that you see a lot of sheep around but also heartbreaking because you see every spring a bunch of new lambs that are so beautiful and playful and adorable but... most of them do not have a long life.
I just wanted to be able to give a few of them a place where they can live out their whole lives and be valued for who they are rather than for the weight of their flesh.
ah, I love them so much, and I recognise that I am fortunate to be able to keep them non-commercially, and my life is so fully enriched by their presence, and my only regret is that I can't offer the same to more of them.
I like to share pics and videos of life with them in the hope that others might see something of what i see in them, that they are not just "livestock", they can be companion animals that are affectionate and loving.
hah, this probably all sounds a bit daft. Only I love those boys and they are so good for my soul. <3

it doesn't sound daft at all,
its really precious and sweet that you own them to love them instead of to eat them. you're a good soul, Yak. they don't even know how much they are spoiled and loved. don't ever feel like you are sharing too many photos of them, we love them too.
do you have or intend to get any females too? lambs in the future? <3

Ah yeah puppers are awesome
Wales is indeed beautiful, once you realise that there is going to be a bunch of rain for a lot of the year. But the reward for that rain is verdant green everywhere, and it's pure heaven when the sun does shine. There's a lot of variety in the terrain, rolling hills where I live in the south, taller pointier mountains up north. Lovely beaches too and plenty of them. History everywherem, loads of castles, and an ancient Celtic language still in everyday use (which I am studying to learn).
I love the US too, I have always had a good time visiting, the country is so large and beautiful and the people have always been welcoming and hospitable. I actually lived in California for three years. The scale of continental North America is astonishing to someone like me who grew up on a tiny island off the coast of Europe. I remember my first trip to the US, flying in on a polar trajectory and flying over land for like 5 hours before landing in San Francisco. If you come to the UK by the time you're flying over land you'll be in London in less than an hour lol
Regarding the flock, we've had ladies here before, and lambs too (raising lambs is as lovely as you can imagine, and a little bit fraught at times as they can be quite fragile when they are very little). Right now it's all boys though, because we've just encountered more boys who needed a safe place. Boys tend to get more or less immediately sent on the one-way journey (plus there is a pervasive idea that "you should never befriend a ram" so they don't often land as pets).
All of our guys ended up where they needed to be
I could bore for Wales about sheep so I won't go on. But if you don't mind seeing a sheep picture, you've seen Buster, here's another of our lads:
This is Panda. He enjoys cuddles, Digestive biscuits, breastbone skritches and butting me in the knee. <3

I really believe that we are
It's an absolute privilege, and one I love to share, by showing how our boys are - maybe to a fault, as I do tend to rather go on too much about sheep, and I didn't come here to advertise our flock.
I just love to show and share the joy. I only wish I could give more of them a safe place <3

Aaa Panda is very beautiful!!
Yak, what you do is truly
I wanted to share a picture of a frog to build up our quartet but by the time I came home they were already gone from our pond. ;-; They left their eggs in there though so eventually there will be tons of tiny baby froggies. For now I can share a little newt in its place though, and a fish that came to say hi!

ah Panda is gorgeous, they
Camelids are fantastic too, we had a llama here until fairly recently, she passed towards the end of last year after a long life (I think if she'd managed 6 more months she'd've been one of the oldest llamas in the UK). She was always so elegant and stately, her nickname was Madam.
People think sheep are all the same and don't have any individual character (I have literally been asked "how do you tell your sheep apart?" which to me is just a daft thing to say). Ours each have different ways of communicating with you, different habits and preferences. Panda created a gesture where he comes up to you and gently but very firmly presses his head against your leg and I can only interpret that as being his version of giving you a hug. It's quite lovely.
They deserve all the goodness, and we give them the best we can, and we get back so much from them just from the pleasure of being around them, they really are like our little family here. <3

ah the one behind the crow is
aaa that little newt is so cute! And that fish is quite the chonker lol. I still have to see if I can get a pic of one of the squirrels round here but they've not been as forthcoming as the bunnies.
Sadly one of the creatures I don't see a lot of round here is deer!
Looking forward to seeing some of those baby froggies!

I love him. ;w; He looks like
The fish is a little chonky yeah, but sadly I'm not the one in charge of their diet. I think it could be better. But they're happy enough and some are around 8 years old rn!

Happy potato, haha very
Yeah it's crazy that people think of animals as having no feelings or individuality. Surely people see such things in companion animals, and the distinction between companion animals and "livestock" is largely arbitrary. If treated as companions, "livestock" animals will behave as such, and they are no less capable of reciprocating love and affection than conventional companion animals.
I think genuinely loving and caring for another creature is one of the best things we can do for our own souls. There is no downside to such a transaction, both parties involved benefit. We get so much peace and happiness from just giving our boys a safe place, food, care and affection that it almost feels like cheatiing.

Full house!
I *almost* got the squirrel a couple of days ago, I was doing the morning video and had *just* turned the camera off when I came across a fat squirrel sitting bold as brass in front of the stable. By the time I'd turned the camera on again he was gone.
It is satisfying to see that you've completed the set
