Story of the Faun, before the Forest
.||.
Before that dreadful day that Eve was lost, life was normal in the green forest. The leaves were always green, the ground warm, flowers bloomed, and Eve did what she had always done best. Explore.
The little faun always had her nose into something, even before her antlers grew in. Many could had swore she was already trying to figure out the world within weeks of her birth. Never sticking with the group, always wandering down old and forgotten paths in the forest. Of course this wasn't always bad. She helped discover the lost ruins that held many ceremonies and rituals for many of the forest folk. They were truly grateful for her find. Yet, there was always something missing for the dear girl. She yearned for more.
Long warm tree bark shaded hair grew past her shoulder, body formed into something young and beautiful. Antlers already full for a doe.
"Eve! Eve dear, where have you gotten to now?" An elderly faun called out; her hair was grey, wild and filled with leaves and ferns. Pelt a soft silver, and skin a gleaming peach. Stepping over twigs and tree roots, the older doe spotted the youth. Eve was standing on top of a large root, high from the ground, looking at something intensely.
As the elder came closer, she followed the doe's line of sight, trying to see what she saw.
Peering past trees and bushes, over a hill; the elder saw. A gasp escaped her and she hurried over and tugged the girl down roughly.
"What has gotten into you deary! You know better then to snoop into the affairs of man, if they were to see you so clearly like that, perched up there." The woman let out a dramatic sigh. "What would you have done if they saw you?" Looking her straight into the eyes, the silver faun held her gaze for but a minute then let the dear go. There was no use in trying.
Eve was already gazing back, behind her to what she was looking at. A group of humans. Riding horses with wagons, making their way though the forest to reach the other side.
"I . . . I only wanted to get a better look. Why do we hide from them? We all share the same face after all . . . even with the centaurs . . ." Yet, the elder was gone and a tree branch touched the faun. "Oh Eve, don't be foolish. You know she means well. This is just the way things are. Humans pass through the forest and we let them and they leave us be." A tree nymph stood behind her, stepping out of an oak.
The faun sighed, then walked off in the opposite direction of the elder.
"I'm going to prove to her that humans can except us like we except all the gods creatures." Eve was sure of it.
