Hey guys. I know I’m being annoying for asking this, in which I apologize.
But I need your help.
I’m hitting some character roadblocks with Silence. He isn’t adapting well over time to the different sort of character personalities that are evolving in the forest along with the various variety of species that he encounters on a daily basis.
This is going to sound blatantly selfish and probably extremely annoying, for which I apologize…but I have a few questions I want to ask.
Do you still consider Silence a valid character in which your character(s) would be willing to interact with?
Is there anything I can do to make him more interesting? Make his personality or appearance more intriguing that would make you want to interact with him?
Would giving him a more deerish appearance make you want to interact with him more, make you more hesitant, or neither? (Deer face vs. Human face)
Finally…
Do you see any blatant character flaws in Silence (contradicting traits, cliché back story) in which you would be willing to point out so that I can correct them?

Totally willing to help with
(This is a bump )
Thank you so incredibly much,
Don't change anything about
You approach sometimes, perhaps try extending yourself a bit further... Approach a stranger, don't run at the drop of a hat.
If that doesn't work, don't blame yourself. Never blame yourself over things like this.
Perhaps my other characters could reach out to Silence too... Hmmm... (<
I like silence the way he is,
I love everything about
*points up at Vee's post and nods* Yep.
I find it hard interacting
I absolutely adore him as a
Don't mind Em, though. He's being absolutely rude on purpose. He's had a rough day. xDD No offense meant to Silence. ♥
Wall of Text ahoy! "Do you
"Do you still consider Silence a valid character in which your character(s) would be willing to interact with?"
YES. I've always enjoyed Queze's relationship with Silence, especially when Walterwoman is involved. I'd actually enjoy RPing the two of them in regards to more serious stuff, like human past-lives, ect.
"Is there anything I can do to make him more interesting? Make his personality or appearance more intriguing that would make you want to interact with him?"
I think there are things you could tweek (I've gone into more details below) but not because Silence needs to be more interesting. He's got plenty of stuff going on as is, between his back story and In Forest interactions. He certainly isn't boring.
"Would giving him a more deerish appearance make you want to interact with him more, make you more hesitant, or neither? (Deer face vs. Human face)"
I actually made a D: face when I saw this because I love deer designs with human faces. They are how the Endless Deer were meant to look, so unless there is an understandable reason for them to look otherwise I prefer human faces. Because Silence was a human, I think keeping the human face is a very fitting design for him.
Things I like about Silence:
-I don't know everything about his back story. Silence's past is obviously a painful one, so he isn't likely to blab about it to other characters. I like this because it is realistic. Rarely do people in real life bare their soul to others, especially if they don't know them very very well. None of my characters know Silence well enough for that, so as mentioned this level of vague secrecy is good.
Things I am not so fond of:
-I'm not sure I enjoy how you play his substance abuse. I don't have a problem with characters abusing, don't get me wrong, and I do like it as a part of Silence's character. My issue is that I get the impression that when you grow tired of Silence being in a 'depressing mood' (which you have grown tired of playing) he will suddenly have a shroom fueled 'silly mood'. To me his abusing is more about you getting to play how you want and less about what Silence would do in a situation. I don't know how you would, or if you even really need to change this since you playing your characters is never really wrong lol. Maybe do some research and look into reasons why people abuse hallucinogenic substances and include some of those into his behavior/cycle of abuse?
Ways I think he could be improved:
-Interact him with more characters, especially ones that conflict his own beliefs/morals in minor ways. (Personal example time: When I was developing Queze, playing him with Lady Bones was a great source of information about how he deals with women. Previously he had no experience with shamelessly flirty, self sufficient women. By putting him in a situation contradictory to what he was used to, he was able to grow and I learned more about him.)
I hope that was what you were looking for, but don't feel you need to tailor Silence to anybody's opinion than your own. I'm glad you want to develop him farther but he's still your boy. c:
I don't have any characters,
Do you still consider Silence a valid character in which your character(s) would be willing to interact with?
Yes, I definitely consider him a very valid character. Assuming "invalid character" means "not well thought-out"/"not well played". Cannot say much to the second part of this question.
Is there anything I can do to make him more interesting? Make his personality or appearance more intriguing that would make you want to interact with him?
He should totally grow a moustache.
Okay, actual answer, no? And how much has appearance to do with willingness to interact? What is an "intriguing personality"?
Would giving him a more deerish appearance make you want to interact with him more, make you more hesitant, or neither? (Deer face vs. Human face)
What the heck no way who made you say this. His face is basically his trademark. I can't imagine Deerface!Silence.
Why would a deerface be more appealing than a human face? There are certain biases but I've never noticed deer vs human being one of them.
Do you see any blatant character flaws in Silence (contradicting traits, cliché back story) in which you would be willing to point out so that I can correct them?
I can't say much to this one because I'm not involved, but from my outside view I can tell you that there's nothing pointing in that direction. From what I know about his back story it's definitely not something you see here every day.
What else can I say. Since I play a kind-of-OOC-but-not-really deer I find it hard to balance IC/OOC relationships generally. I don't see Silence a lot in the game (timezones??). Usually when I do see him, he appears to be busy with something or someone and I'd feel very disruptive approaching him. Because he is such a strongly expressed character I get the feeling there's always something going on (plot, or something smaller) and I don't want to get involved/interfere with that. ((he also seems kind of... exclusive? idk how to explain so this double-bracketed unrelated info))
((if I imagine my deer meeting silence all I can see is an awkward-silence-moment (no pun intended :B). a relationship just doesn't feel 'natural'))
Whenever I see him in forest,
It's not the greatest advice. But when I'm feeling out of touch with a character, I will start a conversation with them. Either in my mind, out loud, or on paper. It's a little strange, but sometimes unexpected things come out of their mouths and I learn a little more about them.
I don't strive to be the best, but instead I strive to do my best, and always give it my all every time.

Do you still consider Silence
I don't recall any awkward interaction between Silence and my characters at any point, and I personally have always felt I can interact with him well. Not all characters gel together, and I like that Silence flips about personality wise depending on mushroom consumption xD Dag can have a right laugh with him when Silence is in the mood, and Kyte appeals to his grown-up side by being a bugger >D
tldr; he is a valid character.
Is there anything I can do to make him more interesting? Make his personality or appearance more intriguing that would make you want to interact with him?
His appearance is perfect, and I like interacting with Silence because he's interesting. Well, he's fun! And that's what I look for, so I'm biased really. Whether you can do something to cater to the more serious rpers of this place I don't really know, but in all honesty I would be saddened to see him turn that way.
Would giving him a more deerish appearance make you want to interact with him more, make you more hesitant, or neither? (Deer face vs. Human face)
No deer face. He's fucking awesome looking as he is. QUIET.
Finally…
Do you see any blatant character flaws in Silence (contradicting traits, cliché back story) in which you would be willing to point out so that I can correct them?
Hm, honestly don't know. I like him too much to take notice :B
Oh my goodness, first off
Shimmy uses wall of text! It’s not very effective and kind of scary…
Vee –
Alrighty.
I will try to push him to be a bit more outgoing I think, then, without it going too blatantly ooc. Maybe a slow push…if that makes sense? Haha, no running! I’m treating the forest like a pool deck with him! :]
Ohgosh why does that scare me hahaha.
Thanks so much for responding, Vee!
Kaoori –
Heh, awesome! That’s true, sometimes it is best to just let the character speak for themselves before giving em’ too much of a push. Thanks so much! Silence has tons of fun with Kaoori, also. :]
Ryff –
Ohmygoodness ahaha. <3 Thank you!
I appreciate the comment nonetheless. Thank you! <3<3
Saosin –
Hmmm, it seems like his elusiveness seems to be reoccurring issue for him, definitely going to put that into consideration. I’ll try to make him a bit more outgoing, perhaps over time and gradually, without making it seem too out of character? Maybe put him in-forest at different times a day to allow him to bridge the time zone gap a little more.
Okay, I’ll make sure to keep the human face, haha. Alrighty!
I’ll look into changing it up a little bit! Nothing like a good plot. :]
Thanks so much for your input. I means a lot to me, probably more than you realize. Thanks again. <3<3
Wetterhound –
Fsdflkj Thank you! I’m glad that he isn’t too outlandish or too dis-likable. xD’
Oh don’t worry about it. Silence knows everyone has their days and probably didn’t think much of it.
Terabetha –
Oh wow, this is fantastic. Thank you! Kdjsafkl This is so useful dkslaj
Haha, anything with Walterwoman is interesting really. It would be interesting to roleplay something more serious between these too, for sure. Queze is a intriguing character in himself, and despite their different backgrounds and cultures it could be really fascinating~
Well I’m super glad to know he isn’t boring, haha!
Haha. Well I had just been noticing (though it has probably always been this way) the large amount of well, deer-faced deer in the forest. Although I doubt it isn’t split 50/50 between human face and deer, I don’t know. I wasn’t sure if there was an appeal in it or something. That’s what I thought also, hehe. Glad you noticed it. :]
Ahh, the mysterious past. Awesome. Glad that part of em’ is working out for you! I figured that giving him all away at once wouldn’t create questions, so I’m relieved it isn’t too non-specific and mysterious for everyone! 8]
I am definitely going to investigate and fill out the whole ‘alcohol’ drug habit thing. Thinking about it, I haven’t really played him in a way accurate to the actual substances, and I’m really glad that you pointed it out! I’m surely going to look into it and do some research to help portray his addiction without taking out too much of the fun. You are very much right about having him go into his ‘silly’ mood when I get tired of playing him. I will no doubt work on that so that moments don’t go stale in the first place! Thank you so much, though! That’s a big flaw that I’m really going to work at fixing to make it more accurate and not as insanely ooc. Still gonna try to keep it fun, though!
Ooh, I like that idea. I’ll try to have Silence perhaps not only seek out others more, but maybe approach those that are opposite to him in personality and beliefs. That would probably really help with his character development and would be quite interesting. Thanks for the advice!
That was exactly what I was looking for, and it was incredibly useful. Thanks so much Tera, sdklafjskl. I am very grateful for your words and contribution. Thank you! <3
Unplugged –
That’s alright! It’s nice to hear input not only from those who keep up, but those who just kind of see him running around occasionally. :] Any input is fantastic!
Haha, sorry about my grammar. Good to know. :]
Moustache?
Haha anywaysthough. Yeah er, my grammar wow. Uh. Like, actually I’m not even sure, to be honest. Let’s just pretend I know how to actually make a sentence properly haha.
Okie dokie. I’ll keep his face the way as it is, then. :] I don’t know, really. I had just noticed the many different species we have ‘ere in the forest, human face, deer face, and some in between. :] Wasn’t sure if I was missing out on something? *shrug*
Ah, alrighty.
Yeah, the issue is probably time zones. I’ll try and vary up when I play Silence if it is within my ability in order to allow him to travel across various timezones and breach the gap a little? (Without staying up until 1AM, of course.)
Hmm, yeah, I suppose I can see how you may see that. And although I could assure you that he is very much approachable, I’m not sure how much that would really help. :/ Maybe making him slowly more outgoing or social in nature would allow him to interact not only with deer he knows, but strangers just as well? Hmmm~
Haha that pun! Pffft.
Thanks so much for your input! I’ll keep some of these things in mind and will try to make him a bit more outgoing if it lies within his character. He is a magician after all, can’t be too reclusive and still have to perform shows!
Thanks again!
Eyestrain –
Hehe, very good to know! I’d hate to have him be boring!
Whether you think so or not, I find it to be very good advice. Maybe I’ll give him another interview or two to help flesh out his character a little bit more.
Thank you so much! <3<3
Iaurdagnire –
Sweet, good to know! Ahaha his mushroom consumption. XD’ I swear those mushrooms cause bipolarity! Really! :]
Awesomeness!
Ahaha. Good to know! I work to make sure he doesn’t get too bland for anyone’s tastes, so this is very reassuring. I’m not sure how to get Silence to interact with the more serious rpers either…maybe because he can’t even take himself seriously sometimes. Hmm, definitely something to think about.
Okaaaay. Ahhh. Human face. Gotcha. xD’
Ohsheesh haha. Good to know, also!
Thanks so much~ I’m very glad to hear input from you and it's reassuring to know some things that are working for him as a character.
Thank you!
so much text ahhh
Do you still consider Silence
Yesplz. I see his picto all the time and want to run over and say hi. but I'm very shy.
Is there anything I can do to make him more interesting? Make his personality or appearance more intriguing that would make you want to interact with him?
naaah I like how he is
Would giving him a more deerish appearance make you want to interact with him more, make you more hesitant, or neither? (Deer face vs. Human face)
Nope, nopenope. don't change him ;;

I love how Silence is, I wouldn't change a thing.

I love Silence to pieces. I
Maybe, though, he could stay longer in one place? He often flits around and that makes it hard for interaction unless you chase after him, which some people don't want to, or don't know that it is okay to.
(thanks, starling! The avatar is amazing! And Thanks Pretzil for the siggie!
I love Silence, Gladys
He's an amazing character and I think he just needs to be around more to get involved with others. The problem with playing an isolated character is that you're held back in developing.
Do you still consider Silence
Yes. Ama still likes bugging him...>>
Is there anything I can do to make him more interesting? Make his personality or appearance more intriguing that would make you want to interact with him?
Hmm. You could try adding more noticeable quirks that come out in regular interaction with him? He has good quirks (like telling riddles, haha), but they don't seem apparent when he's in-forest. I don't know if that makes sense. xD
Also, agreed with everyone above. I think interaction with others will help solve any blocks you have with him.
Would giving him a more deerish appearance make you want to interact with him more, make you more hesitant, or neither? (Deer face vs. Human face)
I personally really like him as he is. Human face works perfectly for him in my mind.
Do you see any blatant character flaws in Silence (contradicting traits, cliché back story) in which you would be willing to point out so that I can correct them?
I don't see any blatant character flaws, nor can I think of any. The only thing I can see is that his backstory is a tiny bit cliche, but the details make up for any part that might be. Everything else about him is unique.
I thought Silence was
That said, I don't know a lot about him, so I can't judge on anything else.
/does some actual reading now~
Edit: Hoookay, so apparently that's his substance abuse personality. Totally knew that >A> WELL. That was entertaining, and whenever I see him around the forest, he is a wee bit intimidating. But I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
Now I feel like I've totally discredited this post. Listen to your friends. They obviously know more about him. I'm sure he's fantastic, though. And I love the idea of substance abuse in a deer.
