Controversy: A question about Simple Sets and those who use them

MissButterflyCaught's picture
To those of you with simple sets, such as only a pelt, no pelt with mask and antlers, or a pelt and flowers,

Do any of you face these problems?
  • Random spellspam to give you a mask, even if you say no
  • Random spellspam to give you antlers, even if you say no
  • treatment like a newbie (i.e. minimal interaction or plain ignoring)

How do you deal with these problems?

Does it make you more inclined to have a different set?

Admittedly I do give spells

Admittedly I do give spells to namelesses and deer who seem to be "needing" them. I have yet to receive a "no" about it. If it's clear that they don't want it I stop.

I don't permanently wear a "simple set", although most of the time I don't wear anything, or just a pelt. Flowers rarely. Though I absolutely welcome spellspamming, it never happens randomly, only when I initiate it. So no, I haven't had any of the issues you listed.

For your third point, I'm not sure but it might also have something to do with the fact that I play with a Gen1 picto that I've never felt treated that way. I have thought about this before and I'm sure that it happens (it is a logical thing to do). I myself "adapt" my body language when I sense that I'm dealing with a new deer. But I think it's very easy to break those "expectations" if you get it across through your body language that no, you're not a nameless with a glitched picto and you have a clue what you're doing.

[e]: terabetha below there has made a good point about spellcasting I think!

When playing Teradeer I wear

When playing Teradeer I wear only the zombie pelt (no mask, no antlers) most of the time. Usually if someone casts a spell on me I get the impression it is either A) because they are asking me to do the same for them or B) it is simply in good fun. I don't usually get this attention any more often than I do when playing Queze (who's set consists of antlers, pelt, and mask), though I have noticed people tend to give pelt spells to deer they see as 'naked' (meaning not wearing a pelt).

Really, I don't see this as a problem. Giving each-other spells is part of the game and an important part; the more people express a dislike for being spelled the more difficult it is for new players to enjoy forest magic. They end up walking on eggshells, "I can't spell them, they are an older player and will get mad!" and it has already become very hard to find deer in-game who are willing to help get a set; players never used to have to resort to posting a blog to get that sort of attention. Spell-casting only becomes a problem when a player ignores another players wish not to be cast upon, that's just disrespectful. Still, there are plenty of ways to momentarily avoid magic, so players do have 'defensive' tactics available to them.

I personally find letting said deer get one spell away from a complete peacock set, and then reloading my deer's spells to be very gratifying! C<

I play mostly as a fawn so I

I play mostly as a fawn so I lose my set all the time and often let it be. So far I've never been spellspammed after cleary saying no (which doesn't happen often ). And if it did happen, I wouldn't really mind.

Whenever playing, I do just that, playing. < So there are nothing to "deal" with either. (I was so much taking negative behaviours at heart when new to TEF though, but I wasn't aware of what being IC or OOC was.)

I did notice the different treatment my character get whenever having his set or not. When naked I get ignored a lot more, but a bit of playfulness usually do the trick.

All of my characters wear

All of my characters wear pelt, mask, and antler combinations (aside from Blixt), but I understand where you're coming from. Generally I give a spell to anyone who isn't wearing any spells at all, or occasionally to someone who isn't wearing a mask/antlers/pelt. But if they immediately sneeze it off, I understand that to mean "This is how my character is supposed to look". I'll bow and nod my head afterward to try to say "Sorry I didn't know".

So in other words, if someone casts on you, just sneeze it off, shake your head, and bow. I think that should be understandable.

Edit - As far as mini-deer, I don't cast pelt spells on them unless I'm sure they want the spell. The only person I really associate this with is Kaoori, if she's not wearing her nightfall pelt I'll take the time to give it to her.

I really hate it when people

I really hate it when people give my mini deer a pelt spell. I am always trying to do something then a nameless or spellspamming deer comes to my mini, I always have to go back to the twin gods and sneeze it off and stuff.
To show them that I dont like it I either shake my deer's head or hit them with my antlers but sometimes they continue with the pelts and I have to run away.

I don't like when people do this, sometimes it even makes TEF lag

I run around the forest

I run around the forest naked. I don't like other animal spells casted on me. Unless I loose the bunny spell and I request help getting it back.

Problem is, Quad, I ran in to

Problem is, Quad, I ran in to a few people yesterday that would not stop unless I evaded them. I tried sneezing the spell and shaking my head... even doing "listen+listen" to get them to leave me alone, but wound up having to really run and hide from them to make them stop so I did not appear as a mean deer that attacked them.

:/ I know people are trying to be nice and all, but sometimes it gets really outta hand.

Well, recently I started

Well, recently I started playing as my new deer, Aislinn, and her set is simply a pelt and some flowers/candles, though she doesn't always wear anything on her antlers. I did get spellspammed with masks a little bit yesterday, but it was all in good fun, and I just sneezed off the masks afterwards. But what really annoys me is spellspammers who spam pelts onto minis. It's so annoying. I wish that being a mini automatically stopped you from having more pelt spells cast on you, or something like that. >_>

People are so precious. The

People are so precious.
The fact is, its an action in game. It is there to be used.
Last I checked, there was never an ettequite.

So no. I do not have a problem with it. I deal with these problems by not caring. There are bigger things to worry about.

I understand that the action

I understand that the action is there to be used, and I don't have a problem with being spellspammed. I'll just reload my set when they're done, or even join in. But it just annoys me that when you're a mini and you go AFK and your deer falls asleep, nearly every single time I come back I have a different pelt, so I have to go and get my old one back. It's not a huge deal, but it still gets on my nerves a little. But casting pelts on minis hasn't really got anything to do with what this discussion is about. XD

I don't really have a problem

I don't really have a problem it's just my deer characters, sometimes when I lie with a friend on TEF someone has to spell us, Gilligan animal- spelled me but I knew it was an accident so he happily got the devout pelt and gave it to my mini to get my pelt back<3

I have both characters who do and don't like spells Smiling just not to get angry all the time.

This probably wouldn't be fair but what if there were a button you could click on the menu and it would disable spells casted on you? I think it would make TEF calm down about the whole spellspamming thing a little
But that's just my ideas ^^"
