Butting Heads

Despite it's youth, this young fawn can't wait to grow up. Already through the forest many of the older deer gallop and trot all sporting their majestic antlers.

Today young Atoli has something in mind, a little secret she's learned. Although she is a female deer, she swears upon getting her antlers. With a kick she rears her front body up and waves her young but powerful front legs in the air then, she charges.

...

Only to have her plan backfire as she rams head first into a small pine tree.

'Oww.' She shudders, picking herself up and shaking her head to clear away the stars. 'That could have gone better.' Still slightly dizzy she would not let this deter her. She backs away, skidding one of her front hooves on the ground and readies to charge again.

She will find a pine cone and she will get her antlers.

The young deer perks her ears

The young deer perks her ears up when hearing a small call and turns to the new stranger. 'Oh hello,' She thinks and with attention span of her age, she forgets her mission and trots over to the new deer, giving a few sniffs.

This is the first deer that has acknowledged her in her new home and she's happy to make an acquaintance. With a steady leg she gives a small bow.

Alice faces the small fawn

Alice faces the small fawn with a smile which is hidden by her mask and lowers her head to seem a little smaller, for she does not want to frighten the little creature. She takes a few catious steps closer. "Hello there," she flicks her tail, hoping her strange voice will not startle the little fawn, "who are you?"

Alice finds herself grinning when the fawn bows; such kindness is not displayed by all deer around here, even adults.

The doe's eyes widen at the voice. She herself is not quite capable with words yet and tries to manage out a voice. ''Utt'n tee's." Her speech is sloppy but she hopes that her words got across. She nods her head in the direction of the tree she had been attacking.

With a pronounced smarting lump on her head and a little bit of bark cracked, it's easy to see the results of her labor. Above the large truck is pine bristles shaking in the steady nice breeze and pine cones apparently that have yet to bless the small fawn by falling.

"S-Sa-ues -old me...if I ge' pine cone. I can ge' an'lers." Her excitement bubbles easily to the surface and her young face beams with a happy and hopeful smile. Apparently the young deer had been talking to the spirits of the forest. Wherever they may have been, they seemed to of had mercy on her young mind and offered advice to her with her task.

Alice tilts her head slightly

Alice tilts her head slightly at the words, unsure of what they mean, though she can't blame the fawn for having difficulty speaking. Her ears and face turn toward the tree at the little one's actions, trying to figure out whatever she may want with it- when she realises the tips of the branches are littered with pinecones. The doe's suspicions were affirmed with the fawn's next sentance. "Hmm, a pinecone is it you'd like eh? For... antlers?" Ali chuckled. Poor little fawn. She was much too young to keep them, the Gods were wise and decided that fawns would have to first learn how the forest works to own antlers, or pelts and masks for that matter. "Sweetie," she began, coming a little closer, "I'm afraid only big deer can keep antlers, but you can have them for a while. Would you like me to get you one? It'll just wear off soon though, dear."

Automatically the little fawn

Automatically the little fawn gallops around the older deer, giggling and bleating happily. "Es, 'es, 'es!" She gives a very enthusiastic nod of her head and happily goes to the older deer, rubbing her head against her chest and side. "hank, you!" She laughs.

Watching the fawn look so

Watching the fawn look so happy makes the doe grin and miss her own children. Shaking this thought from her head Alice instinctivly gives the fawn a little nuzzle on the head and pads over to the thin tree, feeling the lovely soft moss between her hooves. With one desicive motion she begins rubbing at the bark and making it shake quite a bit. Soon a pinecone falls and plops down soundlessly into the grass. The doe takes it beween her jaws and drops it in front of the little one, wanting her to get a clear view of the spell casting, before taking it again and chewing on it with some effort. Then, she gentle thrusts her head towards the fawn and watches as the bright yellow light procures a pair of small brown antlers on the head of the little doe.

The fawn had watched with

The fawn had watched with glee and curiosity when she had seen her new found friend gently just brush against the tree instead of butting it. Her head drawn to the side in confusion and wonder. The spirits had told her to get a pine cone but never how. Now the little doe knew and would be feasting in no time.

When the elder deer casts the magic on her she felt tingles all over, centering mainly on her head. Then, a weight formed and she could feel her skin magically split to form antlers. She could not see them, but she knew they were there. A small pair fitting of her size and young age, not branches like the others, but small rounded twigs, holding in the center the sign she was gifted by the gods on her birth.

Still though, antlers were antler and she was overjoyed. Once more the little fawn bumped her head against the older deer's chest and felt her happiness burst forth in a golden light surrounding the both of them.

She couldn't help but feel so

She couldn't help but feel so very amused and happy for helping the fawn get it's first spell. Even though they would wear off, she'd be able to get them again when an adult in the future. "Do you like your little nubs?" she asked and giggled as the little fawn snuggled into her chest. Ali felt a sudden want to protect her and help her grow, probably long lost motherly instincts, and the fact she couldn't help but see the fawn as anything but completely adorable as she lowered her head and ruffled the little fawn's head hair.

(Sounds awesome wow! :'D)

Even though the speech was

Even though the speech was still slightly messy she managed to pull through. "I love 'em!" She giggled and looked at the elder with nothing but love in her eyes. It's then she realized that she had even yet to introduce herself to the helpful doe. "My 'ames Atoli."

"Atoli eh? That's a really

"Atoli eh? That's a really nice name. Where are.. your parents?" her expression changed and the doe had to ask, suddenly feeling a bit concerned. Did this little dear have no parents? Surely if she did they'ed be around here somewhere. Or possibly let her go out alone... when she was so young? Impossible. At least not any good parents would do so.

The fawn tilted her head to

The fawn tilted her head to the side. "Paren's?" They were the older deer that followed the younger fawns right? Everyone she had seen had some, maybe a loner or two, but they always seemed old enough to know what they were doing.

This young fawn had been born in the lavender clover patch, just near the big pond. She doesn't remember any other deer being there, just that it was bright and she was still sleepy from waking up. Did she have parents? Not that she knew of.

She shook her head. "Dunno." Her good mood had turned to one of confusion. Had she ever had parents? She had to of if she was born. She just remembered the spirits telling her, her name. A squirrel told her how to find food, and a frog told her that the water was safe to drink.

Yes, she decided that she was sure of it. "No paren's. Jus' froggy's and squirrels."

A feeling of sadness and

A feeling of sadness and sympathy overtook the doe- thos fawn and no one, no parents to look after her, no mother to feed her or father to protect her. She nuzzled deep into the little fawn, before giggling at an idea she'd just had. Ali nuzzled her skull under Atoli's belly and safley between her legs before lifting up her head slowly, resulting in the fawn sliding down her neck. Making sure the little one was safe she spoke, "I can be your mom, and make sure you're safe until you grow up as high as you are now, without needing me to lift ya!"

The doe happily laughed at

The doe happily laughed at the piggy back and gave a girlish chirp. "You'd be my momma? Does tha' mean we can play whenever we wan' 'ogether?" The little doe really didn't know how to react, she doesn't remember ever having a momma before.

She happily nuzzled her face into Ali's fur and bleated with joy. "I'd like 'ha' very much!"

"Sure it does!" Ali said

"Sure it does!" Ali said pround knowing she'd brought happiness to this little fawn, Atoli. She only hoped she could keep her promise- and would definetly do her best to.

"I'm glad sweetie," she said as she lowered her head letting the fawn clamber away from the piggyback, "You want to rest a bit now dear, or are you hungry?" Remembering that she hadn't seen Atoli eat anything yet, it was a reasonable question.

Atoli gave a happily smile "I

Atoli gave a happily smile "I know where some grea' flowers are!" She said, she didn't see many of the other deer or fawns eat flowers but Atoli did and she thought that tasted great.

A chuckle escaped her lips, "Sure thing, I'm right behind you." Alice took a few steps forward to show she was happy to follow. Flowers? Hmm hmm, whatever Atoli wanted. Ali hadn't eaten anything too nice for a while anyway and the though made her stomach grumble.

(gotta go to sleep- I'll reply soon! <3)

Atoli was already way ahead

Atoli was already way ahead of her, stepping with purpose and a smile on her face. The antler's, although small, felt so natural and knowing that they weren't permanent Atoli couldn't help but count the seconds she had them.

It didn't take long before she had led Ali to a small patch of purple clover, scatter with fresh green grass still dewed from the morning. Nearby croaked a couple of frogs and in the air carried the sound of shifting cat tails and a babbling brook. It was obvious that they were close to the pond, providing a short trip to water nearby if the dew on the ground wasn't enough.

"Adaa." The young fawn smiled, still stumbling over her t's. She happily trotted over to the center of the small patch and dug in, chomping down happily on the little buds. Squirrels ran up and down the tree branches above them, shifting with them the sunlight that beamed down.

The gentle wind, moving the

The gentle wind, moving the grass ever so sweetly, almost pushed Alice in Atoli's direction. The doe trotted on just behind the fawn, admiring the sunrays seeping through the tree branches and that bubbling sound of the tiny river leading to the pond- she couldn't help but feel thirsty. Once Atoli had lead them to the flowers she immediatly pulled a bunch of the red petals from the ground with her teeth, chewing and swallowing. The petals weren't too appitizing, but the seeds were actually quite nice.

After another few helpings her instincts took her to the brook, where she stuck her head down into the water and licked it up greedily. The cool water flowing down her throat was so amazingly nice to drink she couldn't help happily swishing her long horse-like tail back and fourth eagerly.

Atoli continued to munch away

Atoli continued to munch away happily, stopping only to see a small squirrel come to join her on the forest floor. Her ears perked at the small chatter it started, and with a tender sniff she began to approach, lowering her head with a small offering bow.

The squirrel took the bow and quickly clamored onto the little deer's head, pushing her fur and stroking her antlers in an attempt to groom her. "Hehe," The little fawn giggled at the slightly ticklish feeling.
