Origins chapter 5

<=To chapter 4 * To chapter 6=>

Author's Notes: Again, woah, I'm posting. o_o Though personally, I'm not too pleased with how this chapter came out. There's no dialogue, so it feels kinda...bland. Very little happens, though I wrote it cuz it's based on real events, interpreted a slight bit differently since I know more since then, and...I hardly remember what happened that day. ^^;
Oh, and...please don't kill me for what I did here either. XD;

I now present

Origins
Chapter 5

~*~
Golden sunlight streamed through the branches of the trees, warming the land below. Song birds twittered back and forth with one another, sharing news and gossip as they filled the air with music. A white dove would fly by occasionally, enjoying the pleasant weather of the forest. Only the squirrels seemed nervous as they scuttled through the leaf litter. They would pause, glance at a nearby clearing, and hurry off.

It became clear what had them on edge. A deer was in the clearing. A fawn with a flat face, fast asleep in a shaft of light.

There was a groan.

The fawn was stirring.

Heavy eyelids lifted to reveal bright gray, the young deer taking its first look at this place.

Everything was blurry. He blinked for a moment, clearing his vision as it adjusted to the new surroundings.

Everything was in warm shades, the trees being light beige and cream colors, and the ground red-toned with wheat-like grasses.

Blinking again in surprise, the young deer slowly rose to his hooves, shakily standing as if for the first time.

To him, it was.

He had no idea where he was, or how he may have gotten here.

He sniffed the air on instinct, searching for the musty scent of predators he somehow knew.

Divine Abandonment - Chapter 1

This is the sequel to Divine Intervention. If you haven't read it, this story may be a little confusing, so check it out here. And don't forget, when I put "intermission" at the bottom, there's still more to the chapter that I will write. When it says "To Be Continued...", the chapter is over.

He stomped his hoof.

The heat was blistering. He watched the humans walk by, seperated only by twisting metal and a small line that would shock him if he got too close. He learned this the hard way, as he already had a scar forming around his chest from pressing on it by accident.

He stomped his hoof.

There was another in the pen with him - a doe. She mainly ignored him, sitting underneath a small structure the humans built for them. It sheltered them from the sunlight, but the heat was still getting to them. She watched as the stag paced the cage, watching the humans. The fence was high, and there was no roofing over their heads.

He stomped his hoof.

He hated the humans. They stood there, gawking at him. He watched them from the corner of his eye, pretending that he wasn't paying attention to them, but he could see their faces, their eyes glaring at him. They pointed at him, and he could hear them speak. He heard them say he was "in a rut" and others asked why he wasn't shot and mounted on a wall.

He shook his head and stomped his hoof.

The anger was growing in his belly. The doe watched him as he eyed a man who walked by the cage, someone who worked at the place he was captured at. The man wore a cowboy hat and was building a structure, another pen, for more animals to be caught and gawked at by the humans.

Totally Sane - Part 2

The next morning was sunny and cheerful, reflecting the thoughts of the Forest's inhabitants. A few fawns were playing amongst the flowers, a quiet doe watching them. And two older creatures were sharing the last night's events.

Emiva was still shaken, but Barwick gave her a friendly nuzzle. "Go on, it's okay. She's like that, you know." The doe swallowed and spoke up again. "She was laughing like...like some kind of maniac...I thought she was gonna drown herself this time!" She quivered visibly now. Barwick bit his lip in concern, but before he could comfort her, Fenqua bounced over. "Hey, guys! Whatcha talkin' about?"

"Pandemonium had another one of her nights." The brown stag's face had a hint of seriousness, but he shook it off with a cheerful snort. "She's getting more and more reckless every day now!" Blatantly dismissive of the fact that the subject in question was a raving lunatic, he smiled at the female. "Now, who wants to go get some pinecones to eat, huh?" He rubbed Emiva on the shoulder. "Don't worry. She'll be alright." The shaky doe nodded, gaining control, and the trio set off towards the pond.

At the edge of the trees, an elderly stag could be seen picking his way towards the water as well. His spotted black and white coat was fading, but well-kept, and the poppies in his antlers fresh from the earth around the Ruins. His face hidden behind a long, intricate mask, Aeros smiled as he spotted the Queen of Darkness sipping up the clear pondwater. As he called out a hello, Lieka raised her face and looked at him, her violet head of hair dripping wet. "Oh, good morning, Storyteller!", she called. The stag smiled. "Been at work yet, or are you busy terrorizing fawns?"

The doe glared at him in mock indignation. "Oh, come on! You know I don't bother with that until after lunch." She turned back to nibble some of the pondweed, then stopped, her expression thoughtful. "You heard about last night?"

Story of Pictures: Abandoned

Many days had passed, and the two deer knew something was wrong. The stag approached the Twin Gods statue early in the morning, anger burning through his body. "How dare you make my child imperfect!" He looked behind his shoulder, seeing his mate and fawn slowly coming closer. He turned his head back to the statue angrily, "Well... Now he's your problem."

The stag soon hid behind the nearby trees as soon as the other two came. The doe set the fawn down infront of the statue. She nuzzled it, an aire of sadness surrounding her. "Now, Vessel, we'll be gone for a little while. Just stay put and wait for us. You'll be safe." The fawn smiled and nodded. The doe bid him farewell, and made her way over to the stag. She looked at him, tears filling her eyes, "Are you sure about this?"

The stag nodded. "I'm not going to raise an imperfect fawn. The Twin Gods shall send us another. And next time, it will be strong." The two walked away, slowly disappearing into the shadows, making themselves hidden from the fawn. He heard a rumbling, and looked behind him. One of the statues was shaking violently, and the fawn could feel a great anger coming from it. He shook and hid behind the other statue, which seemed comforting. But soon, the right statue stopped, and the fawn heard a faint but soothing lullaby, coming from the two statues. He softly fell into a deep sleep.

From that day on, the fawn's mother could not bear children.
