I hope its okay for you, M&A, that I made this blog! I know that many TEFers know about Arokai, and I wanted to make a blog for us to discuss about this game c:
And maybe share our Arokai usernames aswell.

WHAT IS AROKAI?

Arokai (also known as AK or Aro'kai) is an artistic multiplayer online roleplaying game (AMORG) being created by a sole programmer (Superfeesh) and a team of talented artists. In Arokai, users will be able to select from six different species, who are aligned with different npc 'Gods' that roam in various places throughout the world. Characters will be unique, colorful, and diverse, and will be able to do a variety of interactions with the world and its inhabitants. Ultimately, Arokai is planned to be an artistic game that encourages creativity.

HOW IS IT BEING CREATED?

The server and client are being programmed in C++, with the aid of Microsoft Visual C++ Express IDE. 3D graphics and rendering is being handled by OGRE3D 1.7 under the MIT license. For networking, we are using the free library RakNet. The interface is designed in Flash and scripted with Actionscript 3.0, which is made functional ingame through the use of Hikari library. Boost::FileSystem is being used for file management on the server end. We may end up using other libraries for the game.

WHAT KIND OF WORLD DOES IT TAKE PLACE IN?

A fantasy world, but leaning towards the 'realistic' end of the fantasy spectrum. The atmosphere of the world is to be generally friendly, colorful, and bright, but some areas may vary. There is a crystal scheme that's prevalent throughout the worlds because of our storyline. The concept team is designing a world map eventually!

WHO ARE THE CHARACTERS?

Well, the general theme is good versus evil, with sides. On the 'good side' are Wolves, Deer, and Gryphons. On the 'bad' side are Wyverns, Felines, and Bears. On the neutral side are Owls. These will be playable, and will have a limited range of customization options to start with. We also want to put in NPC characters, such as gods of each species, and enemies to fight as well. This will have to come at a later date, since Superfeesh needs to learn AI to some extent in order to do that.

WHAT ART STYLE IS BEING USED?

It ranges from semi-realistic to somewhat cartoony but not too much. Detailed textures will be used always for aesthetic effect.

Arokai's not going to come out in May, or early June. It comes out when it comes out, and it will not be announced either. As already established before, there will only be owls in the first version of Arokai.

You may be able to catch me working on Arokai on Livestream sometimes.

With a motherboard failure, and so much work, it's been really hard for me to work on Arokai at all through March into this month. I'm still gunning for the end of May with only owls, but I'm not sure if it's going to happen. :/

UPDATE 1-5-2011
My game, Arokai is still very much a WIP, but I'm aiming to release a basic (EMPHASIS on "basic"

) multiplayer version sometime in APRIL or in MAY of 2011. Since I'm not a professional programmer, and I'm also doing this in my limited free time, and we don't have a fixed server host yet, plans could change quite easily.

To keep things simple, Owls will be the only playable race in this first version. So Arokai will be updated in "Phases," which along with new species, will have more features and fixes and improvements upon the older, prior version.

Phase 3: Deer & Bears
Phase 4: Gryphon & Dragons

With that said, currently in progress is overhaul of UI design with six-language support, programming of physics, and networking. You may be able to catch me working on Arokai on Livestream. c:

The different animals look beautiful, I know how much hard work something like this must take so I applaud the creators. Something I'll definitely be checking out when it's available.

Just remember guys, Arokai is 13+. It won't be all smiles and sunshine, and quite a few of the members probably won't have any problem with talking about 'mature' topics. There might even be blood, perhaps a little gore, depending on what Soup wants to put in.

They still can't legally have

They still can't legally have anyone under 13. No USA-based company can, as they have to comply to the COPPA(Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). It's not fair to the people under 13. But, if there were too many known people under 13, Arokai could legally be shut down for violation of federal law, which would be REALLY not fair to everyone else :/

I have to agree about FH. It just isn't that fun if you don't know anyone, but Arokai will have a story-line and such. The only thing I do now with FH is make designs, and I don't even do that anymore. TEF wouldn't be left behind, if only for the fact that it's unique. Games like Feral Heart will be a dime a dozen eventually, but I have never seen anything like TEF.

It's just what side the species is on. Not all the 'evil' have to be bad, just like all the 'heroes' on't have to be good. Plus, what is good and bad, but perspective? I don't think many 'evil' people consider themselves evil, unless they're wanna-bes.

If then, even! Arokai has

If then, even! Arokai has been in production for a long time, with name changes every now and again. First was Decayed Reality, which they changed because people were complaining that it sounded morbid. Second was Iko, which they changed because a game already existed with a similar name(Ico). Now they have Arokai, which seems to have stuck. It's probably been about...Three years now since development started. It's also changed it's goals a lot over the years, starting off as a Wolf RPG and slowly morphing into what it is today.

Honestly, I've just gotten a bit bitter over the project.
