I need some help on deer anatomy. Normally, I just draw whatever looks good to me when it comes down to anatomy. I never really paid attention to how anatomically correct my sketches and drawings were, but now I am.
And they suck.
I happened to take a peek at all of the artists in the TEF community, and they all seem spot on! which is why I haven't even thought of uploading any of my drawings. What did you do to help perfect your anatomy skills?
Practice practice
Seriously, deer anatomy always seems very unnatural to me in many ways, the lines not quite flowing the way they do in humans and some other animals. Don't worry too much if the first times you work on it, it doesn't look quite right!
I highly recommend looking at pictures of deer from as many angles as possible. The multiple angles should give you an idea about how certain joints and body parts look from different directions. As well, check out some videos of deer in motion, as it can give you an idea about how the muscles work under the skin.
Don't be ashamed of your art! One of the best ways to improve is to post your art and ask for constructive critique. A lot of the artists on here are very friendly and are very good at giving suggestions to help improve.
Just keep drawing and using references when you need them. After you get used to drawing different poses and angles from references, it starts to become more natural, and you can begin to visualize things without a picture aid.
Good luck! ^^
I totally agree with trigger,
I wouldn't be much help with the anatomy since I'm not an artist at all.
BUT I would love to see your work and your style. :]
