"A deer walks up to the twin gods. Says he has a problem. Says he feels like hes getting weaker, can't see as well as he could, isn't feeling quite himself lately.
Twin Gods look at him and say "it's part of life, get back into the swing of things. You'll have plenty of time to rest when you've passed on."
Deer says "But I'm already dead."
Curtain drops. Everyone applauds. The show is over and yet there is still one jackass sitting in the middle of the stage who just refuses to leave.
Surely, the show must go on.
Surely, we have another act.
Surely, we can practice that again?
No.
And stop calling me Shirley.
Most days I feel like I am that one. Sitting around, hanging on, just complacent to sit and wait to see if the thin veil between what I once knew as life was to offer any more excitement.
Still standing there, behind the curtains, waiting for the next show long after the last bow has been taken and the lights were dimmed.
You've had your spot in the sunlight.
You've held the stage for too long.
Just move on. You had your moment.
You faced your evil, you got the girl..well for a bit at least. Not really. Lost the girl, but had a great story in the midst of it. Died. Came back. Died again. Came back, still dead, but fighting. Lost yourself again now...
Intermission.
Have a break from it all, give a chance to stretch out. Give everyone some time to get back on their feet. It was unknown at the time, however, that the audience would not be returning for the second act.
So he stands there.
Staring out through the trees with that vague expression of amusement and a low cow head tilt as if to say...
"Surely, you don't believe you'll get rid of me that easy?"
