A very important question!

Etincelle's picture
I suppose this problem was discussed here, but i'm very interested...

What do your friends and family think of TEF?

For example my mom thought it's strange an meaningless and was about to quarrel. But then I told her about how relaxing TEF is and how friendly the players are. And now she says it's OK Laughing out loud
My best friend told something like: "Wow, that's crazy! I like it". And then she forgot about it.
And today i was chatting with my groupmate. We rarely talk usually, but now he suddenly became curious... So we were sharing interests. And I decided to take a risk and told him about TEF. He answered it's freaky and changed the subject...

So...it turned out that it's rather hard to understand The Forest...

Ahh what an interesting

Ahh what an interesting question!

As for my family, my sister and my mom both enjoy it, though my sister has a rather limited attention span for playing it. My mom, on the other hand, isn't very tech-savvy so she likes the fact that there isn't any typing involved and enjoys the relaxing atmosphere. Smiling
My dad is a huge first person shooter fan, though, so he obviously has no interest hehe ;;

As for friends... I don't share my internet life with them so I doubt they would understand the forest either. Sticking out tongue

Hmmm, I told my friend about

Hmmm, I told my friend about it and she got bored waiting for her fawn to grow up...my mother thinks the game is really different but has no time to play, and my siblings think I'm nuts xD

I do weirder things than TEF

I do weirder things than TEF so I don't think anyone really cares. x3 But I think it's true that it IS hard to understand... until you try it yourself. I didn't really understand it myself, either. It's a growing experience! Smiling

Lol, my parents just laugh when they see me play, but they don't mind it. :b

My mom doesn't really know

My mom doesn't really know anything about the game, but when I play it and she hears the moos she's like "Is that the deer game again??" xD

My best friend really used to like it, but her computer can't handle it, so she kinda forgot about it.

My other best friend used to play it, but lost his PC. He really wants to play it again.

One of my other close friends used to play it too, but got bored of it.

He and my other friends now think it's a stupid, boring and meaningless game.

Yeah, they play things like Counter Strike and Left for Dead, and they say that TEF is the stupid and meaningless one. Go figure C:

flyleaf Yeah... Most people

flyleaf Yeah... Most people think that any game should have a goal=) and a chatbox, and possibility to kill other players etc. Laughing out loud so they just won't understand something different... Or maybe we are crazy))

Ysrael maybe keeping tef in secret from friends is the best way out Laughing out loud and i absoluyely agree with your mom Eye

Kittyo8 tef needs time and patience)) maybe i would have given up the game if i had to wait a month. but luckily i was away and when i came back my fawn became an adult))

Custard, Unplugged we all are bit nuts here Laughing out loud

gurgelin together with other crazy things TEF may turn a person into a madman Laughing out loud Laughing out loud Laughing out loud but i totally agree with you. it's a rather interesting expierence)

Verycrazygirl i' m also impressed by your art! Eye

BrokkenSaint people of different ages play TEF... and it's not a worst way to waste time))

My boyfriend thinks it's

My boyfriend thinks it's adorable. At first I was afraid he would think it was weird, but he thinks it's really cute. I feel like such a nerd talking about TEF to him (especially concerning Lemon's romances, lol), but he seriously likes to hear about my little doe's mishaps and adventures in the forest. ;D

When I first started playing

When I first started playing a few years ago, my sister saw me playing on it. She was just like "Why does that deer have a human head?" And I could only reply "It's a game. My deer, right?"

When my friend came round, I was just about to turn TEF off, when she asked me what it was. I explained it to her (deer with human heads, interacting with other deer with human heads, running round a forest blah blah blah. Oh, and how it's fun and hint-free-hint) and all she could say was "Sounds pretty boring."

It's basically all the same. People either think it's weird or boring or stupid or pointless.

But that's all right I suppose. That way only the special and important people can enter the forest ;D

My family doesn't care much,

My family doesn't care much, my two sisters played it but not anymore, and I wish I had never told my friends about it (except one, but she stopped playing too). There was a time when one of my friends crashed me down for it, it was the worst day of my life. It's a wonder I'm still here, or even more a wonder that she's still... a 'friend'. She behaves like that a lot, but I forgive way too easily. Sad

My mum is the same as

My mum is the same as Witcher's lol, always wondering what the mooing is. (Sometimes I dont connect and just click the moo to keep her wondering lol)
My dad doesnt know I play it, and my brother thinks it's just weird but sometimes he watches me run around on it.
My friends irl don't know I play it either, but I think a few of them might like it ^^
Even for me this game is different, I have to admit I love playing games like counterstrike source, battlefield bad company 2 etc. I love this equally as much although its completely different.

I don't tell my friends only

I don't tell my friends only because I know they'd laugh at me.

My family knows about TEF as the place that I spend a lot of time on, and they're fine with it as long as I get stuff done around the house/get my schoolwork done, ect. One of my brothers plays TEF a little and I think he enjoys it when he plays.

I told a few of my friends

I told a few of my friends about it... They seem to like games that have structure and goals, but I insisted that the forest really is magical.

They all went home, installed it, and gave it a go.. and to my surprise, they all had positive responses!

Wahaha, my Dad, on the otherhand... He loves Call of Duty. He likes the excitement and violence, I guess. He'd find the forest ridiculous!

Ohh, I love the forest. It's audience is so specific that all the players are filtered down to the people who really love it.. They're the nicest players.

As a rule of thumb, I do not

As a rule of thumb, I do not mix my personal lives. For instance, I don't connect multiple online communities (I don't put TEF art on my DA and the other way around, for instance). I also don't talk about internet friends like you guys with real-life friends just like I don't hang out with my video gaming friends and my camping friends at the same time.

My friends don't know I play TEF. If I told them and explained the site, they'd call me a furry. I'm not, and while I have nothing against furries as people, I don't want to deal with the social stigma that would undoubtedly occur if I were to be accused of being a furry. I have worked extremely hard to be respected by my peers, and if a rumor spread that I was a furry, derision would follow me everywhere.

My family doesn't know. They wouldn't get it. I wouldn't blame them.

I don´t really raise much of

I don´t really raise much of commotion of it... though I do not hide that I play either. I just don´t talk to irl-people a lot of it. As I do not talk about my rp-characters and games with people I don´t rp with... though, if someone asks, I don´t lie, but I probably won´t try to convise them to try it, since I´m pretty sure that they wouldn´t be interested of it. My family has noticed the weird deer-creatures appearing in drawings and the "moo-sounds", but they don´t really care unless they think I sit too much on the computer. My sister tried TEF when I first installed it, but got bored almost instantly and now plays probably something like IMVU, in which I myself do not see the appeal. I used to play games a lot and tried even Wow, but TEF is the only game I still play and haven´t gotten bored with. I´m weird like that. =)

PleasureLine7 my mom tells the same things) even when i don't have to study Laughing out loud
and if TOO many people would like TEF it will be too crowded in the forest... and the server will die))

Flyra i understand you... i also have such a friend Sad

Zeekii mooing is epic) though my family pay little attention to it. but my dogs are often scared of it and other forest sounds)
loving complitely different things is great Eye

TimeTravellingCat Forest is really magical) unfortunately not many people like magic...

My family doesn't really know

My family doesn't really know about TEF so heh. Though I think they wouldn't even care. : D
I've showed TEF for two of my RL friends, they played it for few days and grew bored. I think TEF kinda requires a bit of your own imagination to stay interesting.
TEF gives the players a lot of space for their own imagination and freedom which I personally like very much. But it doesn't suit everyone. 8P

I don't feel the need to talk

I don't feel the need to talk about TEF at all. My family know I play it, and some of my friends do, but I explain that it's an artistic online project - because that's what it is - and it's fine, they don't question it (:
I think if you try to explain it to people from a game perspective, it doesn't really work and will sound boring.

I can see how it could be seen as weird if you choose to play it rather than say, go out with friends or whatever. But TEF is bottom of my priority list so I've never had that problem.
