I worked with the "Zauberstab"-tool for the first time since I never had to cut an image like that. It's stupid cause I've yet to learn how exactly it works.

Actually I tried to cut it with that "Zauberstab"-thingy (<- my new arch nemesis) to get rid of the white background but the edges looked like crap. X)
Hehe, unfortunately I suspect you'll never become friends with the Zauberstab x-] Things like transparency and soft transitions (<- ???) won't work with it (though I think I saw some complicated techniques how to manage it recently...). But if you use photoshop, why don't you use different layers so you can switch the background off?
As for your Photoshop related question: I don't know how. Q_______Q I can switch the background off? xDD (<- PS-noob)
My PS is all english and I simple didn't have yet the patience to learn how use it proper. But I'll give the layer-thingy a try.

You click on some button and then there's a new layer, you draw on it and can turn it invisible and so on. And it's sooo useful that almost all drawing program has this feature now. Once upon a time there was a german PS-version on my PC. Then my brother came: "I have version of PS thats 10000000 times better!" So he kicked the good old german version out, installed the new one and left his poor little sister with that weird new english PS-thingy. And he lived happily ever after- THE END.
