"Regrettably no." He sighed

"Regrettably no." He sighed and shifted, tail flicking a little and sighed softly "He is much harder to kill than that. He is merely broken for now, but he will be back."

Asaroth stepped back away from Night Shade, allowing her to stand and looked over toward Lilith, nuzzling her lightly to comfort her. He sighed gently and looked back toward the unconcious demon, growling lightly

Night wondered silently why

Night wondered silently why Asaroth didn’t just kill him while he was laying there helpless, but she guessed that did seem like a low thing to do, even for a demon. She got to her feet, and stumbled around weakly. She felt dizzy. The doe took a few deep breaths, and steadied herself. She knew she needed to recover fast, so they could get as far away from Des as possible. She looked back to her mate awaiting orders on what to do next.

“What do we need to do about him?”

she asked quietly, looking back over at the dark stag on the ground.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The big stag was starting to stir, he grunted and shook his head, glancing vaguely in front of him at the moose. He growled lowly and tried to get to his feet again. Pain shot through his back leg and he let out a roar as he sank back to the earth.

”Asaroth you bastard! What the hell have you done?”

He growled, still challenging, even though he was well aware that he was at the other demons mercy.

At the roar from the stag on

At the roar from the stag on the ground beside her, the moose flinched, stamping her hoof down dangerously close to his face. In close to a panic at the very small distance that separated them, she leaped back away from him, planting herself a distance away.

Slowly her heartbeat returned to normal and she glanced over at Asaroth and Night Shade. She hoped that Asaroth would put the beast out of it's misery for all of their sakes, but she knew that he had his pride, and a blow like that did not seem to be in his plans. She let them deliberate though, he was their captive, not hers, and Asaroth seemed to know what he was doing. Instead, she approached Lilith, nuzzling her brow in comfort and moving to place herself beside Night Shade while she spoke, offering support with her large body. She watched Asaroth anxiously, wanting to know his decision. If he chose to end the beast, she didn't want Lilith to see; the little doe had seen enough horror that day.

Asaroth turned toward him,

Asaroth turned toward him, looking down to the beast on the ground, staying out of the range of him biting. He bare his fangs, snapping them at him as he growled

"You are lucky that I allowed you to live, you are a pain in my ass but it would be far to easy to just allow you to get out of this so easily. You try to touch my family and I will not be so lenient next time."

He said each word slowly and deliberately, turning he kicked out backwards toward him again before he rejoined his family

Des paid little attention to

Des paid little attention to the other goings on around him; he was just focused in on Asaroth as he spoke to him like a dumb child. He was a bit surprised that he wasn’t going to kill him.

He also thought it was a weak and ignorant thing to do. He pressed his ears to his skull and growled a low rumbling sound. He bristled trying to look as menacing as he could, just lying helpless on the ground. Really it just made him look more pathetic.

He wasn’t sure what pissed him off more. The fact that Asaroth had just kicked his ass, or the arrogant kick that followed. He shook his head and snarled, after one of Asaroth hooves clipped him on the nose.

“I won’t leave them alone, even if you took me back now. I would still kill those unfit culls of yours.” He snapped

“I have not even seen the other one yet, but I’ll tell you from what I have seen so far. I’m not impressed. That little whelp.” He glared at Lilith, who took a step backwards.

“Is to much a a damned coward to ever be anything and I mean really Asaroth,You should have just killed it, It’s the size of a rabbit, If your other child is as wonderfull as that piece of shit.

Then Killing them will be nothing but a sport and a short lived one at that.”

He knew he was pushing his luck and he didn’t care. He glared to Night Shade and the moose.

That bitch of yours will die too. There is no way I’m letting her live to produce more brats for you.” He snorted

“And you moose when I’m done taking out Asaroth’s trash. I will take great pleasure in hunting you down and tearing you limb from limb A fat ass like you should make a fine meal!”

If he could have gotten up he would have blindly attacked them all, but he was stuck. All he could do was talk.

The moose could only shake

The moose could only shake her head in wonder at the words that the demon spewed. She couldn't believe that a creature so trapped and at the mercy of another could still speak such words to provoke anger! Why, Asaroth could easily crush the creature's jaw and silence him for good, and she was sure that the demon knew that. She put it down to arrogance: the beast wouldn't give up until he had the final word, even if it meant his doom.

She snorted.

"I'm afraid my bones would only stick in your throat and choke you demon. You are finished here."

Asaroth stare at him for a long moment, hunter green eyes slicing into him before he growled at him, he wouldn't acknowledge the words. They were ones spew from a pitiful creature who had nothing left to try to harm but with words.

He turned toward the does

"Come, let us go. He can wail in his misery all by himself."

He carefully stepped over Lilith, beginning to walk from the scene of their fight, going to head back toward his home. He had to find Sariel, had to start training them all to fight if Des truly was going to hunt them

The demon stag glared after

The demon stag glared after them angrily. When he was sure they were gone he, re positioned himself to become more comfortable and to take his weight off the broken leg.

He let out a soft snort and rested his head on the earth, in a pout. He knew he would be down for a few days at least. Flesh wounds took no time to heal on him, but a break to a bit more time and what irritated him more was

now that he had failed his first attempt. They all would be expecting him the next time.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lilith followed closely behind her father, staying in-between him, her mother and Ma. She felt well protected with them around, and had calmed down considerably. The Demons ill words towards her had not affected the child. All she knew was he sounded angry and had been talking about her, but none of the insults had meaning; however for someone in their party they did.

When they had got a fair amount of distance between themselves and Des, Night Shade broke off from the group and started heading in another direction.

“Ma?” She said quietly, turning back to look at the moose.

“Do you mind keeping an eye on Lilith please?” She hated to push her child off on her, but she wanted to be alone. She wanted everyone to leave her alone.

She had never felt so worthless in her whole life and Des’s continued insults only made her feel worse.

She felt bad for Asaroth, having to listen to that, just because he was with her. She had asked herself many times before why he chose her. She really didn’t know. In her own eyes she was an embarrassment to him and a burden.

Even her own children had more potential than her and that was just because of him.

She thought it was better if she were just out of the way.

"Certainly my dear..." The

"Certainly my dear..."

The big moose nodded to the small doe and watched her separate herself from the group. She was worried about Night Shade and didn't want her to leave, but respected her wishes to be alone. It had been an intense day for her, and the cow was certain that once the doe had sorted her thoughts, she would return.

She looked back the way they had come, toward the dark stag on the ground. He had shifted slightly, and was clearly wounded, but his anger seemed to be more intense, coals rather than a flame. Her brows furrowed, wondering how long it would take him to recover and try and fulfill his promises. Asaroth may treat his words as empty threats, but the cow worried that, even if it would take him ages to recover, the demon stag would come after them again.

At that thought, her torn side woke up and sent a flare of pain down her body. She gasped slightly and gritted her teeth, promising herself that she would inspect it as soon as Lilith was safe and she had a chance to lay down again.

The Small fawn, started to

The Small fawn, started to follow after her mother, but halted when she had heard her ask Ma to watch her.

Normally she would have followed anyway, but she could tell something was wrong with her mother, and walked back up to Ma, studying her carefully, noting the pained expression that crossed her care takers face.

“Ma are you ok?” she asked, nuzzling one of her forelegs.

She tilted her head to look up at the moose, gold green eyes full of worry.

She had not seen Ma get hurt and the moose had played it off so well that the fawn had not even noticed anything was wrong with her until that moment.

She had no idea how bad she was hurt or where, but the fawn had to admire her courage for keeping quiet about it.

The big cow looked down at

The big cow looked down at the little one and turned her wince into a smile for her.

"I am alright dearheart. The brute caught me with one of his antlers, but the wound is not serious. It is simply painful. Once I get some rest and clean it a little, I should be fine. Are you alright love? Nothing hurting?"

She tilted her head curiously at the fawn, deliberately exaggerating her actions to try and make the little one laugh. She snorted lightly and shook her head, lifting it slightly as Asaroth began to walk. She let him get a ways ahead, but wanted to keep him in sight.

The moose shook her body all over then butted the little fawn lightly.

"Daddy's getting restless. We should probably follow him, don't you think? We can't let him go causing any more mischief today!"

”Im ok.” She smiled up at

”Im ok.”

She smiled up at the moose, wagging her tail.

She felt better, however the moose’s efforts to make her laugh, didn’t work, but she smiled anyway to be polite.

She was in too much of an odd mood to laugh. Her father was wounded, so was Ma and her mother had left in a huff alone. That was not highly unusual none of it was, but to her there was clearly nothing to laugh about.

She also thought briefly that her mother was quite foolish, a whole new feeling to the fawn, even she knew it was better to stay with the group than wonder off after being attacked, and especially after her mother was almost killed.

She did not understand how Night Shade could just walk off on her own after something like that. It was such an odd feeling to think to think of someone she admired as foolish.

She snapped back to reality when Ma butted her.

“Yea.”

She said slowly, giving her a half hearted smile again
trigger_mortis's picture

Another shiver of pain struck

Another shiver of pain struck the moose as the little fawn responded. She closed her eyes, letting it recede gradually before responding to the fawn. She needed to clean the wound soon, she was worried about how the stag had cut her. It had felt shallow and like nothing serious at first, but now that her muscles were more relaxed, the wound seemed more serious. She was glad it was not on the side that Lilith was. The fawn showed an amazing capacity to tolerate terrible things, but the moose didn't want to scare her when she seemed to be recovering.

At last the pain had dulled to an ache and the cow opened her eyes. She saw that Asaroth was not far, and sighed softly. If she continued in the direction he was going, she would have to wait much longer before dealing with her wound. She looked down at the little one.

"Go ahead and catch up with your father little one. I'll be along shortly, but I want to take care of this wound first, alright? I won't be long and you know your father will keep you safe. Maybe you can even cheer him up a little bit, I think he's had a very long day."

The fawn could see that same

The fawn could see that same pained look cross the moose’s face and she was greatly concerned.

She had no idea of what was hurting Ma, all she knew was she didn’t like seeing her in pain.

She wished there was something she could do, but there was nothing. She though briefly that her father could help, but that seemed unlikely as well, when she thought it through.

No Ma was not like them, neither was her mother, who also lacked demon blood. Lilith knew that the only way her mother got by, was because of the bond she shared with her Asaroth.

She sighed, frustrated, brow furrowing as she tried to thank of any possible way to help. The doe shook her head and got to her feet, deciding there was none, at least not any she could thank of then.

Since Ma had been named as her care taker she would respect her wishes and go with Asaroth. If there was one thing to be said about Lilith it would be that she respected the adults around her and no matter how bad she wanted to protest at times she would obey their wishes.

Ok Ma..just take care of yourself k?” She said slowly before heading off to her father.
She doubted she could cheer him up.

Anytime she was feeling distress, Night would hide underground, no idea why she did it,she just always seemed to do it, rather the stress be big or small and compared to those around her and even some of her own past experiences, her current situation seemed silly.

Silly to be so upset about.

Night knew that not only was Ma hurt, but Asaroth had been wounded as well, nothing he couldn’t sleep off probably, but she still felt bad.

It seemed to her that all of the family’s problems were always her fault. Her pride was hurt, she was scared of being killed, and even more scared of being alone if something happened to her family.

She really didn’t know how to feel.

The blood loss had also made her tired and so she rested in her underground hideaway for a while.

Asaroth's legs buckled beneath him as he let himself to the ground, grunting as he rested within the sunlight between the two sapplings he favoured. He sighed softly and a huge yawn escaped him.

His ear flicked, glancing over toward Lilith as she approached and he lifted his head, turning it to watch her approach with his good eye. He slid his gaze over her, making sure his fawn had not been wounded before he gave a light snort and lay his head back down against the soil

The cow began a slow walk

The cow began a slow walk toward the pond. She was a water creature, familiar with the wet as much as any duck or frog. The pond here was cool and clear, and she could use the river current to clean the cruel wound in her side. She stopped briefly and turned to try and examine it. The blood had congealed, leaving a long red gash along her brown pelt, the fur caked and matted with sweat and blood. The wound itself was long, although she couldn't tell how deep. She sighed softly and continued walking.

Much of the days events still had her in shock. She had never realized that her friend's mate was such an important figure. She had known he was a demon, it was clear from his actions and build, but to be a ruler of a circle of Hell...she didn't even know what that meant, except that it obviously came with its share of enemies. This new beast, he seemed to feel that because Asaroth had produced offspring with a 'mere deer', the so-called purity of Hell was being threatened. The moose snorted softly, that was ridiculous. Every creature knew that it had to search for a mate outside of its own group or else the young produced would be inbred and strange. She had heard horror stories of fawns being born with no legs or extra hooves because of this phenomenon, their mother's being forced to abandon them to the elements. Musing, the cow wondered if perhaps these malformed creatures eventually found their way into Hell, or if there was some other place where they could be restored to their proper build and live their lives in peace. She had thought that this was such a place, where deer who had been mistreated in a former life could now find peace and happiness...it had certainly seemed that way for her, escaping a harsh summer with little food and too many flies.

She stumbled over a small log and snapped back to her present. She wasn't far now from the pond, just one more hill to top and then descend. Gritting her teeth, she began the climb up the hill, in the back of her mind hoping there would be no other surprises waiting for her there.

Lilith watched her father

Lilith watched her father quietly. Wondering how he could be so calm again just after a fight.

She also wondered how he could let her mother wander off like that without so much as a shrug. He both intrigued and confused her, but she never questioned anything he did, not out loud anyway.

She made her way over to his side and settled in, curling up into the thick black fur. He was like a tower compared to her small size, but even as a new born that had not intimidated her.

Ma had said to cheer him up, she didn’t know how, he didn’t seem upset anyway.

She knew her usual ways of “cheering up” wouldn’t work.

He had endured her childish behavior and games of dress up in the past, but she knew it wasn’t his thing. Lilith was still a child but she wasn’t stupid.

Her ears fell back as she silently studied his wounds. It hurt her to see them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Night came out of hiding when she heard heavy almost clumsy footsteps outside her usual den.

It was odd for s deer to want to be underground of course, but Night was unusual all around. No one questioned it.

She pulled herself out of the opening with a grunt, perking her long ears to locate the maker of the noise.

She wasn’t too worried about danger, even if it was Des approaching. She knew He wouldn’t be causing anymore trouble for a few days at least.

The doe caught site of a large brown figure making it’s way to the pond. She didn’t have to guess it was Ma.

The shape of her body alone gave her away.

She was worried though, before it was hard to tell what might be wrong with who, with the smell of her own blood all over the place, but now she could smell clearly that Ma was hurt. She let out a heavy sigh and made her way over to the moose, stepping lightly as she did.

She felt awful that Ma had been dragged into their family mess.

“You’re hurt.”

She said simply padding up to her, matching her pace.

”I’m sorry about all this..and for before. If I had known you were in pain I would have not stormed off and left you with my child..but it wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t causing everyone grief.”

Most would have said that jokingly, to lighten the mood, but not Night, she was serious, she really felt that way, any bit of good humor that may have been left in her had been stomped out by the cruel words of the stag.

The moose jumped slightly at

The moose jumped slightly at the voice of her friend, lost in her own thoughts. Despite being startled though, she smiled at her, though in a slightly confused fashion. She wasn't sure where she had come from, although the small doe smelled slightly of dirt. The cow continued ambling on, listening to her friend and snorting softly when she had finished.

"Of course I accept your apology my dear, but there is no need for it! If anyone should be apologizing, it should be me. I brought that brute down upon your family because of my own thick head. I didn't realize that he did not know of your family, and when I spoke of them...well, you saw the result. I am a silly old moose, and my senses are dull. I should have realized that he was trouble from the very beginning."

As they reached the banks of the pond, Ma simply continued walking deep into the water until only her head was above the surface. She let the gentle current wash the blood from her hair and loosen the clotted blood from the wound. Soon she could feel the blood flowing freely from her side again and began wading back toward the bank. Once she reached the muddy side, she lay down and rolled in the thick mud, caking her side and letting it pack the wound. When she finally stood, she resembled a kind of mud monster, trailing loose weeds from her legs and sides. She felt better however--the cool water had refreshed her and the mud was blocking the pain.

She finally moved away from the pond, lowering herself to the ground in the sun to let the mud bake on. She looked over at her friend, seeming to raise a brow at her in question.

"So my dear, will you accept an old moose's apology and forgive her for her sins? You have caused no grief little one, that beast was pure evil. Even if your Asaroth had not become your mate, this one would have eventually risen up against him, that is simply his personality. You cannot change nature, although you can sometimes defy it."

The doe watched her quietly,

The doe watched her quietly, concern etched across her cold but lovely face. She flicked an ear to rid herself of a pest, earring making a jingling sound as she did.

She didn’t understand at all why the moose was covering herself with mud. She had never seen such a thing, but it seemed to her that Ma knew more about healing and the like than most she had met.

It was for that reason she had trusted her to help deliver Lilith. She knew that is Ma could not have helped no one could have, not in the forest anyway.

“ Do not blame yourself for our problem. You had no way of knowing and Des was bound to find out at some point..I guess it’s better that it happened sooner rather than later. It’s in the open now. No question on what he will do. Asaroth can get Sariel
And Lilith ready to fight if they must. In a way it may be a good thing you told him..If he had found out without all of us so near..it could have ended worse.”

She looked thoughtfull. She had not expected any less of a reaction from the demon stag. When Night had followed Asaroth out of the forest Des had threw a fit when he found out what Asaroth was mated to. She still didn’t get why It mattered. Demons mating with other beasts or humans was not uncommon. No one really understood what set him off now that she thought about it. It was so strange. The doe wondered if maybe her being a deer wasn’t what it was really about..maybe he was just that jealous of Asaroth, as far as she knew Des had no mate or children despite being a powerful lord before.. She wondered if that had anything to do with his rage.

She sighed, lost in her own thoughts. Still she wished his words had not stung her so badly. She was also greatly concerned that he had almost killed her with little effort. She had no idea how to fight something like him, sure she had fought Asaroth before, but she had still lost then and he was only playing around. She hated feeling helpless.

“Yes you can defy nature I’m living proof of that and true that Des is crazy..but One can only defy nature for so long Ma. It catches up.”

He brow furrowed. She wanted to say more, pour out her feelings to any that would listen, but she didn’t wish to worry or trouble the already wounded moose. In her mind she owed Ma a huge favor and the least she could do was suck up her feelings and sit maturely until her friend was feeling better.

Although Night seemed mature at times. She was still young and that showed through a bit. She held a certain amount of maturity when the situation called for it, but it was no hidden fact that she could be very childish and immature at times, certainly more so when it came to her feelings being hurt.

trigger_mortis's picture

The moose sat quietly and

The moose sat quietly and contemplated her friend's words. The sun was strong and the mud was baking quickly, sealing her wound and drying it. She itched to rub the clinging clay off, but she knew that it had to be completely dry before she tried that. In the meantime she worked on the mental itch she had about the demon stag...Des, Night Shade had called him.

"Our natures do indeed catch up with us, despite what we would like. My body would love to be young and free again from aches and pains of old age, but my spirit holds it at bay for now and I know I have many years ahead still."

She looked over at the doe, reading her impatience in her posture but choosing to ignore it for the time being. It would do her no good to move before the mud had set, and she could do nothing to encourage that process.

"I have no doubt that Asaroth will prepare your family to the best of his extent. Sariel is young and strong, although untrained, but Asaroth can teach him the ways of combat--he knows this Des the best, and he can teach Sariel how to avoid his strengths and play on his weaknesses. Lilith is very young still...I don't doubt that she has a fighting spirit much like yours, but I simply do not know what she can do against such a brute. However, you can teach her the advantages of speed and her smaller stature, how to use those to best effect in order to turn Des' strengths back against him."

She smiled at the black doe and then nosed at the dried mud along her side. It had set in a way she was satisfied with, and the rest in the sun combined with her soak had restored her energy for the time being. With a bit of a lunge, she rose, bones creaking slightly under her weight. She shook vigorously, loosening the dried mud from her pelt and letting it fall to the ground in clumps. The only area it remained was in the packed wound, looking smaller now that it was cleaned and sealed. She stretched herself, testing the hold, and only felt the slightest twinge: that was good, it meant the vital inner layers had not been punctured.

She snorted, freeing her nose of dust before turning to Night Shade and fixing her with a beady eye.

"You have gone through a lot today my dear, but I'm sure that doesn't explain everything on your mind. What is it that would make you run from your family to be alone? I do not blame you for it, every doe needs her time to herself occasionally, but today you seem...lost somehow. Shall we walk and talk?"

Asaroth tilted his head a tiny bit, turning his attention to his fawn as she curled into his side. He sighed lightly as he looked back ahead, deep in thought about what had just happened

He finally shifted and lifted his head, looking down toward her again, "You are unhurt, correct?" he tilted his head, checking over her small body to see if he could obviously see any wounds, relieved when he found none obvious

it's late T_T i hoe this is

it's late T_T i hoe this is not just babble

The doe flattened her ears to her skull. Listening to her words. She ground her teeth together a bit frustrated, with how optimistic everyone was acting.

There was nothing for her to be optimistic about. Sure Asaroth could get Sarial ready and they might fare just fine against the old bull. Even Lilith, small as she was, stood some chance. Night snorted a bit disgusted, but what could /she/ do, but run and hope her death was a fast one.

The doe had only really felt helpless twice before that she could recall, but this was a whole new level. She was almost killed effortlessly. She never wanted to lose her fighting spirit but it was starting to slip. She fought often but always lost and this marked the second time she was almost killed. If it had not been for Asaroth a simple fawn birth should have killed her a while ago.

It was true that she had dealt with the first fawn and not died and that was impressive, but that kind of thing would not help her in battle. Unless she was planning on offering herself up and she was not doing that. Her tail flicked and she snorted getting to her feet to join the moose.

“Honestly Ma I feel like I’m good for one thing and I’m not even good at that, I mean My fawns are lucky to have made it as well as they have.” She looked hurt and irritated. She hated sounding like a typical doe. A simple creature with a simple purpose, that’s how she was starting to feel.

“There is nothing about me worth keeping around..Always causing everyone trouble, I don’t know why anyone wants to be around me at all.

She hurried away quickly turning her back to the moose as she felt the first tears starting to fall.
She mad he way over to a pile of logs and hid her face amongst the rotting bark. She knew she was acting like a child but she didn’t know how to deal with what she was feeling anymore.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The fawn was a bit lost in her thoughts, as she continued studying his wounds and jumped a bit when he addressed her. She shook her head to try and hide the startled reaction.

“I’m ok.”

She smiled up at him then turning away thinking quietly once more.

She wanted to ask him things, but she wasn’t sure if she should. She didn’t know why she felt nervous about talking to him. She loved her father and any other time would have had no problem communicating with him.

She just didn’t like to feel like a bother, but she was itching for information and she knew he would tell her more than her mother would, both of her parents were blunt, but her father was more so. She hoped that would hold true.

She sighed and looked back at him and unleashed her questions all in one nervous outburst.

“ Why is that stag really after us? Why did he fight you? Why did you fight him? Why isn’t he dead, Do your wounds hurt.?.Looks like they do..Are you worried about anything? Are you stronger? I hope so. And why is mom being so weird, and.. and Ma got hurt do you think she will be ok?”

She panted trying to think of anything else she wanted to ask before she lost her nerve

The moose blinked at her

The moose blinked at her friends retreating form, slightly shocked at her words, before jogging after her. She followed the doe to a pile of logs, setting her body down beside her and letting the smell of the rotting wood sink over her. She was quiet for a little while, letting the doe get a bit of control back before she spoke. At last she spoke, quietly.

"You know, this isn't what I had meant by walking and talking. However, now that we're here, I'm not going to complain. You said that your fawns were lucky to have made it as far as they had, and you're right. They are lucky. They are lucky that they have you for a mother and Asaroth for a father to ensure that they have a happy life where they can grow up strong. You have done an amazing job raising them, and Lilith still needs you to protect and teach her. You know as well as I do that a stag cannot raise a little doe properly."

The cow paused, musing. She wasn't sure quite how to continue in a way that might hurt her friend. She seemed to be in a fragile state, and the moose wasn't used to dealing with such delicacy.

"I can only speak for myself, but I choose to be with you because you are unlike anyone I have ever met before. I have never met anyone so sure of herself and so certain of her place in the world. What you have said breaks my heart because you seem to have lost that certainty, and I can only guess that it is because of that beast of a stag. I'm not going to try and convince you that what he said was wrong, because I think you know that in your heart of hearts. Just try to remember that you are not causing trouble...trouble just seems to find you more often."

The moose lay her head on the ground, resting while she let her friend contemplate.

The doe slowly lifted her

The doe slowly lifted her head from the crumbling logs and sighed, staring blankly ahead at the forest in front of her. She flicked an ear, earring making a jingling sound as she did. The doe tilted her head a bit and shook it, flapping her long ears; it was hard to say if she was frustrated or simply gathering herself again.

“Your right and it would be wrong of me to ask him to do that. Raising fawns is not on his list of things.”

She grumbled a bit, but in its own way it made her smile. She wasn’t really sure why, probably because Asaroth had made that a clear point so many times. She found that amusing since a stag plays no part in raising a fawn much less being there for the doe before hand; at least he had done that. She was lucky.

“ Thank you..I’m sorry I’m acting like this. I guess it started when I left the forest. I realized I was not as tough as I thought..I should not have been surprised I guess. And when that monster came here I was worried about it, but I didn’t expect him to snap like that..I kinda hoped that with the clumsy deer body and the knowledge Asaroth was here, that he would calm down..He seems to have gotten worse. I’m just scared of him Ma. Even Asaroth has his moments but I never feel that I should not trust him...but Des is just mad, he has no control..”

She shook her head again.

“Do not worry about this Ma, about me I mean..I’ll be ok in time. You on the other hand were hurt. You never have told me how bad you think it is. I feel selfish for not asking.”

As she spoke she looked nervously at the hill to her left here was a dark figure limping in their direction and there was no doubt that it was Des.
