Interesting behavior

There's really not much point to this, except to share something I saw today about deer behavior... I was walking in the woods, and eventually stumbled on a doe and her babies. They all sprang up when I walked past and ran away, but after she got a few yards away, the mother turned around to face me and pretty much stared me down while raising one of her front legs and stomping it on the ground. I definitely got the message, hehe. "Get away or I'm gonna stomp the hell out of you." I just thought that was odd, I'd never seen something like that before. It was incredibly threatening, really, which throws you for a loop when you think of an animal like that as generally timid. Anyone else seen something like this? Also thought this would be interesting to share for character-behavior purposes, for anyone with female deer, particularly with fawns.

I've never witnessed anything like that before...I've never thought of deer as very menacing or threatening but now I know they can be!

So lucky you were to see

So lucky you were to see them! :')
Well, it's no secret a moose cow with calves can be very dangerous if you get too close, I bet it's the same thing with a doe with fawns. xD

That made me remember one time I saw a moose cow with two calves on a field next to the pen where I was going to get the horse I owned back then. I was afraid the moose and the calves had gotten into the horse's pen, and I felt like I was in the middle of a horror movie when I walked around among the trees, looking for my horse and terrified of meeting the moose with her babies. Luckily she never got in the pen in the first place. xD / end ramble

They always do that when they

They always do that when they sense danger Smiling I've stood in my house before (we have sliding glass door) looking out the door and if a doe is in the yard and sees me she'll start doing that.

Ourania- that's interesting!

Ourania- that's interesting! I'd never seen it before... makes sense though if they need to defend themselves.

SnowSauria- I live in PA, we're practically overrun with deer xD they're EVERYWHERE. Which is wonderful... until you're driving somewhere late at night and 3 just jump out onto the road. Instant heart-attack! And oh god, I'd be terrified of getting anywhere near a moose, let alone a cow with calves... I've heard stories x__x

Bayleen- it was definitely frightening xD Awesome, and frightening xD Deer can be quite threatening... then again anything can be if they feel they're in danger. I definitely surprised them, which I'm sure didn't help, hehe!

Did you know deer will rear

Did you know deer will rear up and 'box' each other? Their hooves are sharp.

In addition to their wagging 'flags' (the whitetail deer's long tail bobs as they run, like a waving flag), they will sometimes let out a kind of hoarse, whistling bark to warn of danger.

I don't strive to be the best, but instead I strive to do my best, and always give it my all every time.

O___O Wow, I never knew deer

O___O Wow, I never knew deer did these things! The bark is really crazy, I'd never expect a sound like that to come out of them. I did see the tail bob today as some of the deer ran away... their tails are longer than I thought. Thanks for sharing! Smiling

I had a dream like that

I had a dream like that once... But it involved Chuck Norris and a bag of banana chips.
Lucky you! Shocked I always wanted to have some sort of experiance like that!
