Furfur lazily raised his head and peered behind his back. The human was still snoring peacefully. He had no sense of time but the room seemed lighter than when he fell asleep. It seemed a good enough time as any to explore before he could get some answers. Furfur rose to his feet and firmly planted his front legs on the ground before pushing off and racing out into the dimly lit hall.
He did not have to rely on the light generated by the symbol above his head any longer and trotted back to the main courtyard to take in his surroundings. He recognized the wet hallway from which he came the earlier night. The only other hall left unexplored was a dark stairwell leading upwards. Furfur was familiar with the structure due to the low stairs leading into the pit but it still posed a problem. He gingerly placed a hoof on the first of the small ledges and propelled himself forward. The result was less than graceful. He stumbled and skidded up the stairs without the slightest hint of coordination and collapsed at the top panting softly. What sort of being could have fathomed such a torturous climb? Wouldn't a hill just be as easy without all of those deathtrap ledges? He grumbled softly for a few minutes before raising his head at looking at the next opening.
It was an enormously large room that seemed to stretch out in all directions. As the light neared the edges of the room it seemed to fade into oblivion and go on forever. In the center of the room were another set of inclined ledges that lead up through the ceiling where a dark square rested. The room was filled with the sounds of birds and he could hear the calls of other deer in the distant. He steadily rose to his feet and took a few hesitant steps forward to illuminate more of the room. What he through to be boulders before revealed themselves to be tightly curled up sleeping deer. He furrowed his brows in frustration and looked down at the familiar faces.
Kaoori and Wesker laid together with the tiny Amazon by their side. Saosin and Rayven were in a corner away from the others. Tails was resting in a group with Rakkaus and a few other deer he only vaguely recognized from sighting the in forest. It was some sort of bizarre forest reunion in this damp temple. Furfur tip-toed through the sea of familiar faces and he felt his heart leap into his throat.
Kita. She was there too curled up by his son Finata.
He raced forward and gently nuzzled his friend. "Kita? Kita!!! Wake up! Come on I'm right here...what are you doing here? Where are we!?" His pleas fell on deaf ears and he stomped angerly as he surveyed the room. What was wrong with these deer?!
A shifting pebble caught his attention and he turned to watch one deer rise from it's resting place and walk up the stairs to the black square and disappear. Furfur frowned and settled down to watch. One by one the deer would rise, walk up those ledges, and disappear. He cast a last longing glance towards his family before he traversed those same steps.
It was an odd transition. One second he was in a dark room of zombie sleeping deer and the next second he was back in the forest. He couldn't explain how it happened. He raised his head and lightly took in his surroundings. Raised walls, crumbling steps. Ah yes. The pit in the ruins.
Furfur bound out and took in the bright sunlight. He was home..but something felt different somehow. He strolled past the deer of the forest and frowned as he received no welcome home or recognizing glances. Could they not see him? What was wrong? He was right in front of them!
He approached the waters of the pond and leaned down to examine his own reflection. A pair of large eyes balanced on a pure white face with large ears stared back. He swallowed and tilted his head from side to side. The fawn staring back at him mimick'd his movements. He was a fawn. That would not have bothered him as much as the fact that he was a fawn...with no name. The glowing pictogram that was always nestled across his crown was completely absent. He was no one. No one would ever recognize him without a name. He growled softly and dove at the reflection. He was so angry. This was worse that the after life! He continued to attack his reflection and scream at it in frustration. "Why does this keep happening!? What did I do to deserve this! Why can't I just go back to the way it was before! What do you want with me!" He continued to throw a tantrum. It was a futile effort, yet he had to relieve stress somehow.
Kita raised her head and furrowed her brow. The rest of the family was sleeping, but she had always been a light sleeper. The nightmares that plagued her mind for weeks were enough to keep her from resting properly, but this disturbance came from the forest. She lazily rose to her feet and took a few moments to stretch before climbing the hill to the Twin Gods. Some deer was loudly splashing around. It was most likely a fawn from the sound of it and she peered down at where the tiny nameless being was attacking the surface. Like all nameless it only made animalistic cries. Those unprotected by the twin gods seemed to be incapable of speech. At least, not any speech that she or any other deer could understand. She frowned watching it's display and trotted down to watch closer. Nameless or not it was still a child and dangerously close to falling into the deep end.
Kita frowned and walked up behind the fawn. "A-are you okay little fawn?" She stepped closer until her own visage reflected back in the water. The fawn seemed to cease it's tantrum and just stared at her for a few seconds with wide eyes before nuzzling her affectionately. She sighed softly and nuzzled the fawn back. Most likely it was abandoned by it's mother before the Twin Gods could give it a name. She frowned and nudged the fawn back to where her friends rested. "Come on little one. I'll take care of you until you find your own name. Shhh..it's okay." The fawn only responded with a flurry of moos. Typical. She felt sorry for the child. If the Twin Gods did not accept the child it would never gain it's own voice.
Furfur huffed in frustration and stared at Kita. She didn't recognize him at all. Worst of all she was not listening to a word he said! He continued to plead with her about his identity but she ignored his cries and just shushed him. It was so bothersome! Why couldn't she just underst-
He froze.
He was nameless.
Nameless never spoke.
Furfur bit his lip and frowned. She couldn't understand him like this. He needed a name. He had to get his own....
He glanced up when Kita finally ceased pushing him along and stared at his pictogram. It was hovering mere inches before his face. He leaned forward and tried repeatedly to snatch it from the head of the deer it had attached itself to. That was HIS name! Furfur braced himself to take another flying leap but was plucked out of the air by a pair of strong jaws.
Furfur swiveled his head and stared into kita's green eyes. She deposited him by her side and laid her head across his back to keep him still. "Shhh...Now stop that. The twin gods will give you your own name soon. Leave Seshi alone. He has had a hard day."
Furfur cocked his head to the side and stared at the deer that had taken his name. Seshi..? but that was his name before. He peered at the speckled stag and focused on the blackened muzzle and shed points. His heart skipped a beat and he whimpered. No. That was impossible. Seshi was..he was dead! He died a long time ago. Yet right here before him was...himself. He lowered his head and tucked it into the warm folds of Kita's fur.
He had to return to the dark place in the morning. Those humans would give him answers. He closed his eyes tightly and tried to hold back the tears. Dhina and that Alecsander could tell him what was going on. They would make this all right... They would give him back his rightful name.

Today's title means "Experience teaches fools".
Furfur will begin to be seen in the forest more often now. As with the story he will begin to appear as a fawn and try to socialize with the deer he knew in the forest. Whether your deer recognizes their former friend or not is up to your digression.
Deer who were humans in a past life OR are gifted with intelligence will have a better chance of putting two and two together to realize the child is their old friend. More instinct prone deer will most likely not pick up on the fact that it is Furfur due to the fact that he does not have a familiar scent or voice. For all intensive purposes he is a nameless, he will just be played under his pictogram so other players can readily recognize him.
Occasionally he might be seen in his normal form/set but he will most likely not respond to any coaxing. He is still "in between" worlds. He is completely unaware that any other deer can see him.
