After seeing all the lovely playlists that people have added to their deer’s biography pages and such, as well as the occasional random ‘this-song-reminds-me-of-TEF’ posts, it’s oh so very clear that this community is full of music lovers. During a random chat with our resident Lottiekins (AKA Verycrazygirl) recently, I, the wonderful Zebbie (tee hee! :3), came up with the concept of a fan-made soundtrack for The Endless Forest, made by us, the forestkateers community~! :3 Containing the music submitted by all of you lovely members, The Endless Soundtrack will be a mixpod-presented compilation of chosen songs that represent what the forest is to us, with songs that make you think of the forest, the good times you’ve had in it-whatever music that makes you feel the forest! The original idea was to have a massive collection of not only forest songs, but character themes, songs about friend and such, too-however, for the moment, this shall be a project solely containing songs about the forest itself, with other compilations to come in the future should this one prove to be a success (see ‘extra information’ below for more information upon future soundtrack ideas :3).
So, now that you’re all keen and eager, how will this faaabulous project come together, exactly~?
I am volunteering my time, as is my co-producer Lottie, to organizing the soundtrack, compiling all the tracks, creating and moderating the playlist, and presenting and uploading the finished product that will be a representation of our community. The first step will be the creation of a submissions post, which can be found
HERE, that will be where all participating members can submit their songs for consideration in the soundtrack. Details upon how to submit a song can be found upon this page. All members, old and new, young and old, sane and insane, are most welcome to be involved in this, and I am encouraging as many people in the community to take part in this as possible in order to make this quite the epic project to behold. I want this to be something that we can all enjoy and treasure, and with only a few straightforward rules to follow, there is nothing preventing anyone from participating unless, of course, they don’t wish to. When all tracks are in, I will create a post with a poll where all members can vote for their favourite submissions for inclusion in the final product. The most popular songs will appear upon the final soundtrack.
As well as songs, there will also be something for all you artsy lovelies out there-every CD has a cover and, just as with the rest of the soundtrack, it will be governed and created by you, the community. Any member can create and enter a design, which must be a representation of the forest, and can be created however you wish-it could be a drawing, painting, photograph, modified screenshot, etc etc. After all the entries are collected, a vote will be held where the community decides which piece should be the decided cover art for the soundtrack. All entries for both songs and art must be submitted by, as of the moment, the
12TH OF FEBRUARY 2010
So, a few simple rules for you all to follow so that this can all be dandy *ahem*:
1. No songs with offensive lyrics or suggestive concepts. We want this to be an all-ages project, after all~! :3 if you’re unsure of whether the song you’re submitting is too ‘risqué’, feel free to post it with a little note next to it and we will pay extra attention to it when reviewing each submitted track. Chances are though if you find it a bit ambiguous, we will too ;P
2. Please, no drama llamas, or the Quamar Llama will get you. This is a community project and everyone has the chance to be involved. If you don’t like a particular song, a particular band, a particular person, etc etc, then please, just don’t listen to the associated track if it makes it to the finished product, instead of making comments and causing a fuss. I want this to be a fun creation that we can all enjoy, and there is no reason why drama should be a part of this at all.
3. If possible, include a link to the mp3 file of your submitted song. I understand that sometimes some files can be ridiculous to find and, if this happens to be the case with your song, I have a bit of a knack for finding tricky tracks and thus will help you if you’re having trouble if you let me know. Otherwise, please try to include an mp3 link but if unavoidable, YouTube or something is fine. The reason I’d like to have mp3 linkies is because otherwise, we’ll have to run around finding a billion songs, as well as the fact that constant YouTube links will absolutely murder my monthly internet data limit. So basically, it’s easier for everyone if you can include the mp3 link in your submission :3
4. Do not make submitted art of a sexual/violent/graphic nature. Again, this is an all-ages do, so please respect that people of a variety of ages may be involved in this.
5. Please, do NOT steal another person’s artwork for the cover art. If you are using a stock image or something, notify the person before you use their image unless they otherwise state. By all means use a reference picture for drawings or whatevs, but don’t steal another’s hard work.
6. Aaand finally, follow le rules and enjoy~! 
♪ My aim is to have this compilation be limited to 20-30 songs. If we have a large number of awesome submissions, I may make this larger, but I think that this amount would be perfect for this soundtrack as it is neither too big, nor too small, as a playlist to load.
♪ We want to make the finished product available to everyone and, to comply with copyright laws and make this compilation as safe to enjoy as possible, it shall be presented upon mixpod, a streaming music site that is easily accessible.
♪ All the details of submissions will be listed with the final product, along with the title of the person who submitted the song. All artwork will be accredited to the creator with a link to their profile or website as appropriate recognition.
♪ As stated earlier, if this project is a success, I will be looking at further projects in the future, including a large compilation of songs about the TEF characters that people play here, as well as friendship songs, etc. If you guize are interested in this idea, it’d be awesome if you could give your thoughts on this thread about whether you think it would be a good idea or not. I am quite happy to do it, but it will be a much larger production than this one. I would have to limit the amount of character songs submitted to one per character, and around two per player (so a player could submit two or so songs, but they would have to be about two different deer that they play-hopefully that makes sense ♥). I’d love to make this proving this project works out :3
So, when will the finished product be available for all to enjoy, exactly~?
My aim is to have the final soundtrack up and ready to be enjoyed by sometime towards the end of February, most likely around the 27th, although this could be subject to change depending on how the coming weeks pan out. Most definitely it will be done before the 10th of March, as I want to have it completed before I start university on this date. At the moment, the plan is to open submissions as of the posting of this thread until around the 12th of February, and then opening voting until the 23rd as this is when my birthday and other busy times will be over and I will be able to sit down and put everything together. So basically, start posting-you has around a month to get all music and art in for consideration, so go forth and prosper, tee hee~! ♥
If there are any questions, comments, or anything of the like, this is the post to express them on. Leave your thoughts here and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. I hope that none of this is too confusing, and that you’re all as excited about this as we are~!

While I love songs very, very much, and I don't think it's necessarily a BAD idea in and of itself, I have to agree that this is about as legal as robbery is. Not that I'm saying that I think you guys are interested in doing illegal things, but you have to remember that at the end of the day M&A are responsible for TEF. I worry that something like this may get them in trouble, and we don't want that, do we?

Buuut yes, to business *Mr Burns finger steeple*. I figured I should address this little copyright issue we seem to be debating here. This was really the only thing that was really going to be an issue for this project that I could think of. I understand where you are all coming from with this, but it’s not like we’re selling the music, or making a profit out of it. Whilst downloading music is illegal, we are not benefitting from the sale of the music or claiming it as our own or anything, merely sharing the songs. If all of you have ever shared songs over email or chat or something with a friend before, this is exactly the same thing. Technically, as it was mentioned in LexFirehind’s post, YouTube is a violation of some copyrights-and yes, stupid copyrights indeed
However, I also think that it needs to be remembered that law-enforcers have better people to chase after on the subject of downloading music, such as the ones who sell it. I even know policepeoples who download stuff for themselves
Sooo, yes. I shall change the soundtrack to be set to become a mixpod playlist. Apologies guize for raising these concerns and for these rambles, but I do want you all to know that I did look into the copyright factor before posting this as I would not want to cause any trouble for anyone involved. I in no way encourage anything illegal, and I know none of you implied that either Lottie or I do encourage illegal things, but I'm just putting this out there to show that yah, we did consider this issue, quite a lot :3 It is unfortunate that the subject of copyrights and the internet is one which is extremely hazey, or this would have been a lot easier to address
And sooo, mixpod will be the way to go so that all is safe, and we can all still enjoy this without any issues or anything, so eee! :3 Thankies for all the feedback and for the suggestion of mixpod and stuff guize, these were really great ideas and discussions, and I’ll update this main post ASAP

Okay, songs that make me think of the forest:
Any Tim Janis songs are at the top of my list. They're instrumental and beautiful and I always listen to them when I just want to take a long stroll and just marvel at the beauty of The Endless Forest.
(Also any Enya songs are very TEF-like)
"The Mummer's Dance" by Lorena McKennitt... I always imagine stories in my head while listening to songs, and this one always brings me to twilight parties in the forest.
"Singing in the Rain" by Gene Kelly. *shrug* Sometimes I listen to it when it's raining.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. lol probably not a good one, this one just reminds me of all the drama on the community forums. (Sometimes I enjoy that |D)
I've also assigned to different characters quite a few songs by Gavin Mikhail, just because.
I have all these mp3s (Many of Tim Janis' best songs are a little hard to find), but I'm not quite sure how to provide a link for them. I can email them if you're interested. :]
