It was not the first time that she had stood there for him.
It was the first time that he had laid eyes on her in a long though.
How many months was it now?
He had not seen her since the snow was freshly on the ground yet here she stood.
Kita?
No.
Kita was with his old self sleeping soundly.
She was so troubled now days.
Was he to blame or were there problems he could never know in the forest again?

Amadahy was troubled at times also.
So fearful of many inhabitants of the forest.
He had fought to protect her in the past and lost sight of her.
Yet here she stood less than five feet away and could not even recognize him.
The mask..was it his?
He took a few tentative steps forward and furrowed his brow.

No. His mask was dull from wear and tear. She must have acquired her own.
He silently laid by her side and could not hide his own depression.
His friends, his family, everyone was within reach. He was the odd one out.
He had no name.
He did not have his appearance.
Here they were waiting for the stag drifting already in their midst and no one would ever know.

He had tried to tell Kita earlier. He had desperately clung to the mask she carried and protested loudly when she scolded him. It was his! Couldn't she see?

No.
Of course not.
The deer of the forest were blind to the actions of the nameless.
He was no better than those shadowy figures lurking around the forest.
He was not even a person to them yet, let alone a companion.

Furfur watched silently with her for some time before she treated for the forest.
He wanted to tell her that she looked beautiful.
That she was doing so well.
That her new mask and pelt suited her and he was glad that she was finding herself.

It came out as an obnoxious "Mawwwww!"

Amadahy did not even look back.

Frustration and depression were hand in hand now and he did not even have a mask to hide behind.

She would be the first he sought when he returned.
He turned his back on the pond and returned to where Kita rested.
He had managed to slip away unnoticed during the night.
There was very little chance he could do a repeat performance so he slid back under and feigned it off as restless waking.

Something...ticked. Tick,

Something...ticked.
Tick, tock, ticking clock.
Something, some little feeling...
Something was off.
Something, something...
Nothing.
She continued to stare at the blank surface of the pond.

[Heh. Lovely writing. I laughed at the "maaaah".
And yes, she does sense that something's off, but she'll never know. ;D]

\: I agree, that "Maaaaaw!"

I agree, that "Maaaaaw!" prelude is flawless.

Poor thing. I'd be raging.

Or just really sad.
