He was not walking calmly any more. The stairs were no longer an unfamiliar obstacle and he ran with wild dis-regard. He was tired of it. He was tired of trying to convince his friends and family of his identity. He was tired of being away from the forest and tired of seeing that impostor with his name.

Yes, He was Seshi at one time. Yet that was no longer him. He had nothing more in common with that stag than he did now. He had his own name He had his own identity. He had his own appearance and to hell with him if he thought he could prance around. No, it was only a matter of time, but how?

His hooves clattered against the uneven stones and he scoured the decrepit temple for the strange beings. Those humans, they held the key to this he knew.

He stumbled blindly through the dark, past the bodies, and only slowed to a stop when he spotted Dhina in that odd multi-limbed form. She glanced back over her shoulder and had a small bemused smile on her face.

"Oh, returned and ready to go back are you? "

Ready? Ready?! He bristled and couldn't hide his anger. He had been ready to go back since he woke up in this horrible place. He wanted to stomp her into the ground for looking so bemused at his situation but it was wasted effort and would only set him back longer. He let out a soft sigh and gave her a defeated look.

"Just tell me what I have to do to get back. Whatever it is I'll do it. "

She let out an amused giggle and swept down on his small trembling body to seize him in those strange appendages.

"Well aren't you a cute one? Don't you want to know how you even got here? Not even curious at all?"

Know? Of course he wanted to, but there wasn't time. He was tired of story telling and foolish-ness.

"Spoilsport. Fine. You have to get back the same way you came to be..."

"I have to..die again?"

He was puzzled. He had never come back to life, how could he die twice.

"Not you silly little fawn, Him."

She stretched one hand out towards the center of the darkness where the stairs to the forest laid. The portal seemed to manipulate itself until it showed his son, Kita, and Seshi talking a leisurely stroll through the forest.

Him? Furfur furrowed his brow and shook his head.
"How am I suppose to kill him. I mean last time I er-he just caught an illness. I can't exactly cause him to get sick again...can i?"

Dhina let out a sharp laugh and giggled tossing him into the air before he transformed and hit the ground as nameless.

" Go forth Plague Rat and infect! Watch out though, you only have a limited life span so I wouldn't waste it on foolish make ups. "

Furfur weakly lifted his head and got to his feet. His joints were stiff and he could feel his breath coming out in labored gasps despite his simple movement. This pain, it was so familiar. He took a few feeble steps towards the entrance and diligently forced each movement against the protest of his frail form. He was armed now, but how to get the fool away from his family? He did not wish to harm any bystander.

The uneaven stones soon turned to grass and he was off across the ruins. The other deer paid him no interest. He was, of course, a nameless. A rather slow and feeble one, but at the very least just another outsider. He did not remember it being night when he entered the ruins, but it was probably part of Dhina's plans. He bolted for the birch forest where he saw them walking in the vision and growled under his breath when they were no where to be seen. The damn little dik-dik was messing with him like usual. He shook his head and pawed the ground before listening intently to locate his former life. He could hear Kita bellowing in the distance and his son, but there was a rarer sound much closer.

He could never mistake that sound for another. It was the hallow scream of Basil and the unmistakable whimper ofAmadahy. He lowered his head and braced his body to take off in their direction when the female's words echoed in his mind.
"you only have a limited life span so I wouldn't waste it on foolish make ups."

He had a limited time..but he could not allow her to be endangered. Basil was a threat through and through and she could not run forever. He gave one glance back towards the direction of his past life before taking off in the opposite direction. As long as his friends were safe he could care less if he ever returned. He was going to deal with this once and for all for their sake...

The title means "from hardship".

We're winding down folks, look forward to the conclusion of this series soon.

With the conclusion of this series and the ending of this semester be on the lookout for a new series to start.

I am looking into starting a "write-a-long" series in which I start a story and other authors on the site continue the story on in different directions. I think it would get some good exposure for the writers and get some more interesting inspired material to kick start the community. Look for that around May. Smiling

I wish I had time to go back

I wish I had time to go back and read all the ones in your story hub... this little bit was really good (:

You are so damn good at

You are so damn good at writing these evocatively. I admit that I get more involved with stories than with other media, but man...I just can't wait to see how this all plays out, for better or worse!
