I had to look, didnt I? I couldnt just gallop towards the cage in the ruins, could I? not when that was just twenty feet from my hiding spot. That being a pack. Of. Wolves. Wolves. In our forest? no. Surely the Gods didnt allow it? I pulled back my ears as one of the wolves, a white she-wolf, lifted her head and howled. This triggered the entire pack. A pack of thirteen. As the wolves howls ended, I heard hundreds of low thuds as hooves hit the floor. A large stag, I didnt know his name, seemed to be the most enthusiastic about driving the wolves from The Endless Forest.
He lowered his head and roared his fury, the wolves turning and snarling, revealing the thing they crowded around. "Heiil"! I shrieked, running forward on stiff teenage legs, slipping on the snow. There, in the middle of the wolves, lay my fawn friend. Torn and twisted, mauled and broken. Poor Heiil... She never deserved something like that, it was murder! Torture, to be pulled apart by so many wolves at one time. No, this fawn deserved to die like many other deer in this forest. Of old age, surrounded by friends, mates, children, grandchildren... Not ripped to shreds. "Heiil"! Someone else shouted out, I looked up and stared at a ParoJay. In the late summer, a flock of parrots had come and roosted in our tree's. Mating with the mockingJays. And thus creating the ParoJay. The ParoJay could repeat anything it heard, being known to repeat the nearby sounds of chainsaws and car alarms. I lowered my head, showing off my antlers. Crazy antlers. Antlers that grew out of my spine as well as my skull.
The large stag moved forward, infront of me, blocking off the wolves. "Control yourself, child." His clear, dominant voice echoing through the forest. "You will only disgrace the will of the child, if you charge and lead yourself to suicide"! He snorted. That was true, I'd have spared Heill's life for mine, but I knew she'd say she would rather die then let me be the victim. I lowered my body, displaying submission. The wolves ralleyed. The deer roared. All of them, in a symphony of rage and fear.
One of the wolves walked forward, claws clicking on the floor. It was a female. The lead female? Must have been. She was skinny, real skinny. A walking bag of bones. "Tikrinti elnias" She spoke in an accent, understanding our language must have been hard for her. "J?s ateiti ? mus nužudyti, teisingai?" The deer were confused. What had she said? I translated for them, Being from wolf-country let me know wolf language fluently. "She said, 'You deer. You come to us to kill us, am I correct?" The deer snorted, the large stag moved forward and lifted his head. "No, miss wolf. You are wrong. We deer are of a peacefull herd that spreads throughout the forest, giving life and losing our own to the wonderfull mother nature. We have no come to kill you, no, simply to give you warning." The wolf tilted her head to the side. "?sp?jimas apie k??" The stag looked at me. "'Warning of what?', she said."
"Your wolves have murdered one of our children. Destroyed a life source that would ensure the survival of deer. You have contaminated our forest floors with the blood of an innocent child, and now we have come to claim one of your cubs." The wolf snorted, lifted her head and barked a command. "She said, 'bring it forward.'" I repeated, the large stag looked at me and then at the wolf pack with a strong curiousity.
A black wolf trudged forward, she was thicker then the rest of them. Pregnant. Soon a male would have to die for her to survive, for that was how the wolves of capri caia worked. Assuming, of course, that they were capri ciai wolves. I leaned forward, ears pricked forward. The black wolf dropped a small bundle of furr on the floor. The furr unwravled itself and stumbled towards the large stag. "What is this?" He roared. "A wolf cub, sir." I answered, head lowered as he glared down at me. "You would so freely destory one of your cubs? A single cub could save the future of the pack, and yet you throw... him like he is trash?" The she-wolf snorted. "Klausyk, mano vardas Minx. Mano pakuot?je yra Capri Caia veisl?s. Mums sunku išlaikyti gyv? m?s? pa?i?. Jau nekalbant apie vaiko prieži?r?." She purred. The stag looked at me. "She said "Listen, My name is Minx. My pack are of the capri caia breed. We find it hard to keep alive on our own. Let alone with a child to care for" The capri caia breed, sir, are a breed of wolves with only three packs in the entire world..." I mumbled, he looked at me. "I lived in their homelands, once."
The she wolf grinned toothily and kicked the pup forward, the pup kii-ii'd in responce. "Na? Ar j?s ketinate j? nužudyti?" I gulped. "'Well, arent you going to kill him?" The stag moved forward and picked the pup up with his horns, not piercing the flesh, however. "No." He answered. "We are not murderous fools such as yourselves. We will keep this child, and raise him as our own. One day, he will turn against you." He spoke with such confidence... "HA!" The she-wolf laughed, the deer that had turned around half-way are now looking back at her. "Manote, kad jis b?t? tai padaryti? J?s labai klysta, ir vien? dien? jis tave nužudyti visus!" I flicked my ears back. "'You think he would do that? You are badly mistaken, and one day he will kill you all." The stag dropped the pup at my hooves. "You know their language. Teach him it, teach him how to be a wolf, teach him how to kill canines." I nodded, I had to, didnt I? The wolf pup looked up at me and yiiped. I smiled. "Your a cute puppy..." "Child..." The stag snorted. "In his own language." I nodded.
"Esate graž? šuniuk?, Nesate?"
The puppy growled a responce, becoming exited and standing to lick my nose. I had crouched.
"Aš kvie?iu jus. . . Key."
The puppy barked, wagging his little tail. I ran to catch up with the large herd, the pup at my heels. This was it, now. I had to raise a Capri Caia wolf pup all by myself. With little Heiil dead, I had no one. Well, not exactly no one... I always had a furr ball at my heels now, Dont I?
