"Have you ever known me for making a good decision?"
Her looked like she was about to start throwing things in Tuna's direction. The blond looked away, focusing her attention on the clouds outside her window. "Look, I ain't proud of it, so leave it alone."
"HE WAS SIX YEARS OLDER THAN YOU."
"And."
A book crashed into the wall and slid to the floor. Tuna flinched. Her little brown-haired pet wasn't happy with her answer, apparently - as usual. "If you're not gonna tell me, I..." she trailed off. Tuna smirked to the passerby on the street below. "Push yer fist down my throat. I've already lived through that one, babe." For once, she managed to wrestle her tone into something serious. "Leave it. I haven't even told Bale. Besides, if Noxy comes around today, he'll think it's a perfect story for humiliating me and so spill the beans anyways." Ooh, she didn't like to think of that one. Nox, at her place? He'd get his hair gel all over the rug. Her cracked her knuckles behind her irritably. "Fine. I'm leaving."
"And."
"UGH." Her footsteps were like cannon blasts, and Tuna rolled her eyes at the dramatic rush of air as the door was pulled open.
Her little squeak was rather unexpected. "...oh."
"Evening, madam." Oh, for Gods' sakes. He just couldn't stay away. Tuna forced herself to turn away from the window and was met with the sight of a very befuddled Her having her hand kissed lightly by the tall, black-haired man. "Are you gonna spend most of yer stay bumming around my house?" she cut in shortly. Nox looked up, letting go of the pirate - Tuna let out a small snicker as Her let out her breath. The once-courtier smiled. "Most likely. Until I get to meet that...husband of yours, at least. What's his proffession?"
"Unemployed. I'm captain of this ship. Parden the irony, Her, babe." The blond couldn't decide whether to be calm or annoyed. "Shut the door, wouldja?"
"My pleasure." Even being polite, he was annoying. She crossed the room in a few strides and hopped over the back of the couch, landing on the seat. "Siddown. I'm guessing ya wanted to talk about something." Her was still standing, looking somewhat punch-drunk. "Her, 'ja mind getting some beer from the fridge? We've got lemonade too, if you want some." The woman nodded absently, her eyes still fixed on the handsome man, then turned and drifted out of sight. Tuna raised an eyebrow. "Key's not gonna like this."
"I'm assuming you've not told her about our little adventure."
Well, he was upfront. Tuna shrugged. "Wrong. I did. She ain't happy. Bale won't be either, whenever he gets back." The man's gray eyes narrowed slightly at the mention of her one and only. The young woman grinned. "Having trouble accepting the fact that I can keep this up? I don't suppose you're hitched."
"...no. I'm not." Finally, she had something to tease him about. Tuna leaned back on the couch amiably. "Kay. So what do you want. I know you came over here for a reason."
"I can't find any jobs. I was wondering if I could stay with you or one of your...friends for a while." Her had returned and carefully set the beer - and glass of lemonade - on the coffee table. Tuna, meanwhile, had sat straight up. "No. Not on your life." Nox, however, smiled thinly. "Oh, I'm sure there's someone who wouldn't mind letting me shadow them for a few months. At least until I can either find a job or go back to my old occupation."
"Which was?"
He was silent. This interested her. Her, too. The older woman glanced into Tuna's eyes with a quick grin. The blond winked back. "Sure. You were a mime. Accounting for your big mouth, that doesn't satisfy me. Do tell, dearie." Compulsively, she reached forward, to see if she could play with him a bit -
Her wrist screamed in pain as the older man snatched it in a concrete grip. With his other hand, he reached into the collar of his shirt and pulled on something...cord?
She did her best not to react to the small vial hanging on the end of the chain a moment later. "I trust you understand what this is," Nox murmured. Her nodded slowly, her procelain eyes narrowed. "You know something, T?"
"What, doll."
"I think he'd fit right in."
