Now that I've lost it...
"that's a load of tripe!" the blue haired teen waved a hand at the boy next to him, laughing lightly.
"No, I mean it! a human face!" his companion motioned to his own face.
Chopin rolled his eyes, "Deer don't have human faces, it'd be neat if they did though"
"so says mr.I saw a fairy in the garden"
"I DID!" Chopin huffed.
"Then why deny other things?"
"Because, humans have human faces, and deer are well, deer!" he brushed a hand through his dark blue and gold hair.
"fine, I'll prove it!" the taller teen stated, smiling warmly, "I'll show you someday Chopin"
Chopin nodded, "of course you will" he glanced over, eyes softening.
"Espen"
Chopin's eyes opened with a start, quickly standing up.
A shudder ran through him, and he shook himself to clear the feeling away, making his way shakily to the pond, stepping into the clear liquid.
I can see...
He gazed down at his reflection, aside from his colouring, mask and antlers he seemed a normal deer.
Slowly he picked his head up.
But he had seen others...
He took a breath, allowing himself to sink to his knees, glaring down at his reflection, an intimidating look when paired with the flame-coloured eyes that beamed from behind his bird-like mask.
A frog croaked and leaped, and his reflection was shattered.
Rising to his hooves he raised his head, allowing the breeze to dry his soaked pelt before turning and making his way through the trees, accompanied only by the pulsating beats of his heart and the snapping of his hooves over dried leaves and twigs.
Gold rimmed ears fluttered, taking in the far off hoofbeats of the other deer.
And then it was quiet, not silent of course, the birds continued to sing their songs, wind blustering.
His hoofbeats were swallowed by the peace as he picked his way through the gravestones, some
barren, others holding faded unreadable names.
He sat before one of the cold blank slates, letters coming to his mind despite the emptyness of the stone in front of him.
He rested his chin lightly upon the chilled rock.
