The Tail of a Balloon

Please see below the cut, as the following contains creepy content that some viewers may find disturbing.

A young fawn stumbled and tripped through the forest, enjoying the fog as it rolled across the forest from the pond. It wasn't afraid, merely curious at this new phenomenon, attempting to catch the soft tendrils and delighting as they disappeared and left ghost kisses on its fur.

Suddenly, amongst the muted fog-colours, something bright caught the fawn's eye. It ran toward the sight and found a curious red orb with a long tail caught among some ferns. To the fawn it looked a bit like the glow it saw between the ears of deer in the forest, only much more solid and almost unnaturally bright. Carefully the fawn untangled the thing from the ferns, keeping a careful hold on the tail as it seemed to want to drift away at the slightest touch.

Delighting in its find, the fawn danced away, tossing its head and bouncing the strange red orb through the air. Grown deer saw the fawn dancing, and instinctively shrunk away from it, but could not have told you why. Other fawns ran when they saw the fawn, though they passed it off as a new game. Oblivious to this, the fawn carried on, finally coming to rest beneath a willow at the edge of the pond.

"You like that balloon little one?"

The fawn turned its head, the tail of the balloon clutched tightly in its jaws. The speaker stood in the shallows of the pond, a fair distance away, although the fawn could hear it clearly. It appeared to be a deer, though unlike any that it had seen previously. The deer had strange markings on its face, seemingly painted on, and was nearly hairless except for strange bright tufts. Tied to the deer's antlers were dozens more of the strange orbs...balloons apparently, more colours than the fawn could imagine.

"You know, I could give you more of those. They float, just like you could. We all float down here little one."

The fawn found itself drawn hypnotically to the deer. It longed to touch the many balloons, to float with them, and fall into the strange deer's eyes.

Awesome, there are no other

Awesome, there are no other words... combined story and picture = awesome. Keep it up?

(Aside: I love the balloon thing; have you seen "M"? Amazing throwback if so, and if not, well just... good job on picking out what in my opinion is a very effective and under-appreciated potentially-creepy toy.

Balloon scene from the opening of 'M' by Fritz Lang.)

... & I can't stop looking at the picture. SEND HELP!

This is by far the most terrifying thing I have seen all week.

I hear Pennywise the Dancing Clown in my head saying, "We all float down here!" (From Stephen King's IT)

Stephen King books really

Stephen King books really tend to stick with ya. I think that's what makes them so good. I haven't read that book in years but every time I hear the word 'ghost' I think "He thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts."
