I haven't written about Sparx' adventures for a while. I guess I was running out of ideas and was very busy. =S If you don't really know much about Sparx this is the
first of his adventures.
And the one below is the latest!
Enjoy! =)
We sat in a wide meadow of beautiful purple and pink flowers that afternoon. The aroma of their smell wafted into our nostrils, making us feel calm and contented.
We lay down on our backs, our white bellies facing up to the sky and being warmed by the sun.
Serenity was by my side and Latte on her side.
The Two Sister fawns.
Serenity: The deer who is possibly the love of my life. She has eggshell blue eyes and a little bit of a floppy blonde fringe.
Latte: Her sister. An excellent story-teller but does not speak to me much. Her pelt is honey-coloured and she has an overally long fringe covering the right side of her face and flowing down to her chest.
Her one eye showing is blue, like Serenity's.
As I thought and looked up at the sky I realised how much older Latte seemed to be compared to Serenity. Her fawn spots were already fading whilst Serenity still had hers.
I had never thought about it before, but the more I thought, the more I became interested.
I was too shy to talk, of course. So I just listened to Serenity singing. She was really happy, and I was glad. I'd brought her back from the dead, as she tried to save me.
It had only been a week since this terrible incident and we all remained eerily quiet.
Especially Me.
To save Serenity I had to journey into hell itself and bring her back, without being slaughtered by Death. And who showed me?
One of the Twin Gods. Her beautiful silver fur and long flowing mane...She called me Son.
Son...
It was weird to think of myself as one.
I had woken up in The Endless Forest with no clue as to whether I had parents or not. Not that it bothered me.
I heard rumours of the Son of the Twin Gods living in the forest - but surely it couldn't be me.
Aren't Gods meant to have powers? To be able to give life and take it with a single breathe? To be able to sing and grow plants with your voice? I had tried these things, alone. In case Serenity or Latte thought I were crazy.
And it didn't work, suprise suprise.
" Oh, Look at that cloud! It looks like a rabbit! " gasped Serenity, her pretty eyes wide with amazement.
" And that one looks like a deer! " I joined in, pointing with my hoof.
Latte remained quiet.
" Sparx, I never knew how beautiful clouds were. Do you think they are alive? " She asked.
" They are indeed fascinating but I don't think they are alive. They do not eat. " I wasn't aware i was sounding wiser as I grew older. I would be a fully grown deer, soon. I was sure of it.
A pang of sadness struck me. When I used to have questions I would go to my dear old friend, a wise old Zombie deer. He would laugh at me and his loud laughter would echo through his skull causing his teeth to shatter. But he always had wise answers. Answers that fascinated me.
Now he was gone.
He died shortly before Serenity was taken by Death.
I got up.
" I need to drink. " I mumbled to Latte and Serenity. It was a bad excuse. I just didn't want them to see me crying over the past.
I walked to sit under the shade of a big willow tree by the pond.
More memories. Of my friend telling me of the Moon and Stars, of the spirits in the pond.
I tried to forget them but the memories haunted me. Tears ran down my cheeks and I buried my head in the grass, wishing it all away.
Leave me alone, leave me alone....
" Sparx...? " Serenity's worried voice sounded from my side. Latte nuzzling me snapped me back into the present.
They knew what I was thinking and that sat there, nuzzling me, comforting me. At times like this I did not know what I would do without them.
The sun was close to setting. The sky was a beautiful pink, like the cheeks of a newborn baby and it was streaked with gold. Each cloud was stained with pink so that they looked like little pink sheep scattered around the sky. The setting Sun reflected off the pond. The pond glittered back at the Sun, shining it's beauty and telling it Goodnight.
A question popped into my thoughts and I spoke it. And regretted it with the following silence.
" Latte, you and Serenity are not related by blood, are you? " I murmured.
There was the silence, her voice was merely a whisper in my ear.
" No, Sparx...we are not... "
We sat there, thinking some more before Latte spoke again, louder.
She sighed " I believe I have not told you of my past.....Now it is time you know. Get comfortable, and please do not interrupt... "
I watched her eagerly as she began her tale.
" On the side of a great mountain in Transylvania was a normal forest. It snowed, it rained. It was roamed by Deer herds, and they were hunted by Wolves.
There was an oridnary deer herd.
It grazed, it drank, it ran and was hunted.....this was all to change.
On the eleventh day of the eleventh month, a fawn was born. It was a doe but she was different.
Instead of the long face of a deer, there was the face of a human baby. So innocent. The lead stag was furious.
" How can this be, I fathered it. It is... a monster! Kill it! "
" No, no, I cannot, my dear. I shall never harm my own child. Never! "
No doe can disobey their stag. With tears in her beautiful hazel eyes the doe hid the strange fawn in a cave, covered by rocks and soil. She prayed a miracle would help it to survive.
That same day a normal pack of wolves were hunting.
Their leader, a beautiful grey wolf with silver-grey eyes, called, ( Sparx I beleive Serenity has told you of her ) Accalia, and her mate, Trusan. They were hunting for their newborn pups.
They smelt the sadness in the doe and sensed this as an opportunity for easy prey.
They smelt the fawn on the doe and thought this would be easier still.
They tracked the scent all the way to the fawn hidden in the rocks and with strong paws they dug it out.
Trusan could not slice into its flesh when he gripped the fawn in his jaws.
Accalia could not bare to harm it.
She saw how it was abandoned and wanted to care for it, adopt it.
Trusan could not see how this was possible
A wolf the mother to a deer?!
Trusan cared for it too...they agreed. They would look after the fawn.
The fawn lived with them and relied on them as her parents.
She suckled milk from Accalia's side, along with her young pups. When the pups opened their eyes , so did the Fawn. She didn't sound like a deer, she learnt to growl and whine. She learnt to roll on her back and wag her short tail. To lick the adult's muzzles in hope of food. Her brothers and sisters thought nothing of it. They adored the fawn's loving nature. They play-fought with her and snuggled up to her on cold nights.
One early morning the fawn stepped outside with the wolf cubs for the first time. Accalia encouraged them all out into the open meadow. Trusan gave the fawn a reassuring lick on the head, looking at her with proud and caring gold eyes.
Today would be the day they ate food and not drink milk for the first time.
The fawn's senses told her to eat grass so she bent her head to graze, but Trusan growled.
He dropped a dead bird at her hooves.
This is what you eat...you are a wolf. A predator. Not prey.
And she ate the flesh and bones. It was tough to handle but over time she got used to it. Her deer teeth sharpened to points and she learnt the speed and stealth of a true wolf.
An afternoon by the river the pack were eating the corpse of a dead moose, blood on their muzzles, when a herd of deer stopped to drink. They were wary of the wolves.
Then a doe with beautiful hazel brown eyes spotted the fawn with the human face, behaving like a wolf.
My child! My dear fawn...come to me, my dear.
Accalia splashed over the river, keeping the fawn at her side protectively. The doe touched muzzles with Accalia and she understood; they both did. They agreed in their minds they would keep it secret, so the fawn would be safe. The doe could not thank Accalia enough..
I must name my fawn, Accalia. So I feel she still is apart of me.
I understand, Bracken. Go ahead. But I have a name for her too. She will be called it when she is with me.
The doe nodded,
Her deer name shall be....Latte!
Accalia's brilliant eyes sparkled.
And I shall call her...WolfEye "
I looked at Latte. She lived with wolves?! I sat there, gaping at her. She ignored me and carried on.
" As time went on, living with the wolves gave the fawn certain wolf traits and an amazing thing happened which caused one of her blue eyes to turn as golden of a wolf's. A wolf eye. This gave her her name - WolfEye.
Many wolves tried to kill WolfEye. She seemed unnatural to them and they accused Trusan and Accalia and they attacked them and spread rumours.
At times like these, WolfEye and her mother would go to the top of the valley and they would howl. All their emotions flowed into the air. It touched the hearts and minds of all the other predators so they accepted WolfEye. Apart from the wolves.
Then one terrible day the strongest of all wolves arrived at their pack den.
He had come to kill Accalia, Trusan and WolfEye. His name was Vengeance.
His pelt was as black as night, streaked with silver. His body was huge and muscular, twice the size of Trusan.
Trusan had a beautiful black pelt too, but this was now fluffed up and he was snarling furiously.
Stay away from my daughter! I will not let you harm WolfEye!
Vengeance snorted.
Daughter? She's a deer! Prey! Do you have no respect for the Wolf spirits? Let me kill her and I will spare you and the rest of your family's lives!
Trusan would not. He was a brave wolf. He would fight.
Trusan and Vengeance lunged at eachother. Teeth slashed through fur and flesh, blood poured from wounds, staining their once magnificent black fur.
Trusan's eyes were bright with fury and he twisted and turned and opened a large wound up on Vengeance's head. Vengeance snarled and tore open his side.
They battled for a day and on into the night. Then they stopped. Glaring at each other, exhausted and breathing heavily.
Weakness seeped from their wounds. Death shadowed them.
For one spilt second a droplet of blood splashed across Vengeance's face, covering his vision.
Trusan sprang and sank his jaws deep into Vengeance's neck. Blood flowed into his mouth, which he spat onto the ground.
Vengeance was dead.
But this was no time for celebrating.
Trusan dropped onto his side - he was dying.
Accalia....take care of the children. I love you He Croaked.
He spoke to and nuzzled each of the cubs until he beckoned WolfEye over.
She could just about talk by now.
" Father! This was my fault. I should be the one dead..
He cut her off and said,
You must run. Become a deer. I am so sorry. Remember your deer name. You are Latte.
Then his eyes slid shut and he was dead. He died a brave death, protecting Latte. He was a hero to be honoured by all deer.
As Latte's brothers and sisters went to sleep, Accalia spoke to Latte.
She understood that Latte must go but they would not tell the rest of the pack. Latte nuzzled Accalia then she ran. Accalia was soon to become the protector of all deer.
She ran for days, using the speed of a wolf and deer.
Bears and Wolves gave chase, sensing her weakness. They followed for weeks but Latte kept on running.
Until one day Latte crashed down into a small hollow, hidden by leaves.
She was knocked out.
When she woke there was fresh food and water by her. And the smell of deer, of fawn.
Glad to see you are awake. Came a friendly voice. Latte looked up into the eyes of a small female fawn, and gasped.
This fawn had the same human face as she had.
Over time Latte came to realise that this fawn had been outcast too. They were a rare breed of deer.
The fawn's name was Serenity. It was Serenity who taught her the ways of the deer again, taught her how to find food and pinecones and good grass to eat.
They lived in a small forest which was beautiful with blossomed trees everywhere, even in winter.
One time three wolves came to hunt the deer as they had picked up their scent.
But Latte snarled and chased them off.
The wolves had heard rumours of a half-deer, half-wolf creature that had killed the strongest wolf in Transylvania.
Serenity told her she must never growl or she would become more of a wolf.
Serenity always cared for her. They became sisters over time. Best friends too.
They found new ways of scaring away predators. They hid in a badger set under the roots of a hollow tree. Latte would howl, the howl echoing out of the tree eerily and Serenity would chant in a spooky voice.
Leave this place, Leave this place...
It was perfect. Until one day the Twin Gods found them.
Latte and Serenity woke up the next morning in the Endless Forest. And had found their Heaven, at last. "
I sat their, staring at Latte.
" Is it...true? " I whispered, gazing at Latte.
Latte looked at me, then tilted her head back. The fringe covering the right side of her face fell away to reveal a golden wolf eye.
She smiled.
" Yes, Sparx. I must remain hidden though. One day my wolf side will return...and many may die. " Her face clouded with emotion.
Serenity was quiet, remembering her past.
I was absolutely amazed by the truth, confused also.
Frightened...I thought about what Latte was saying
Many may die...Many may die....
Done.
