some things
one Language warning and maybe even a tiny bit of content warning
Two. I’m not a big major writer. There will be an error or 10 in this, but I doubt it is anything that would make it unreadable ^^; I would hope XD
Three. Night Shade and Des are mine. I wanted to do one of those own character interaction story type..things? and maybe this will help to show their personalities better and such.
Four Asaroth belongs to Kittycatkita and is mentioned often in this story. This has been given the ok by her.
Im not sure if I will continue this just yet or not. If you think I should let me know in the comments <3
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A bird’s song as it perches in a tree, a frog’s croak at the pond, water gently lapping at the shore as dragonflies dance at the water’s surface, butterflies fluttering over fields of endless flowers, a pretty and peaceful scene, but irrelevant , completely lost to those who are of hatful troubled mind. Their brains are constantly plotting, working out the bumps and kinks of some master plan. That was Des.
He made a life out of plotting and hurting others. He sure wasn’t going to stop now that he was thrown into some forest as a stupid animal. If the residents of the place wished to smell flowers all day and bounce around like mad March hares, that was their business, as long as they left him alone. If events didn’t affect him personally they were simply ignored. It had always been that way.
He would not have gotten far as a lord if he had let happy thoughts and petty pass times invade his warrior’s brain. Of course he had only gotten so far as a lord with his state of mind. There was such a thing as being too unreasonable even in the demon realm it seemed. He ruled a long time, before he was overthrown by angry troops, who were tired of his unreasonable since of entitlement and ruthless slaughter of his own men, who were often killed for no reason other than what some would call a temper tantrum.
His own fought against him at different times over his rule, but when age caught him. He was forced to step down and worked as a servant for the various new lords over the years. Under normal circumstances his kingdom would have been handed down to a first born son, but Des had never taken a mate or at the very least fathered a child with some random chamber woman.
He simply spent all his time plotting, protecting his kingdom and killing, anything else was a waste of time to him. The job of servant left him very bitter. He missed having a lords status and knew he never would again and severing under them only made the jealously sting worse.
He decided after a time to use his cruel tactical mind, to slowly or quickly,(whatever worked best at the time) betray each lord horribly and move on to serve under a new lord who might prove more worthy of his time.
He never found one that lived up to his expectations. They all seemed so absent minded to him, brains full of other thoughts outside of doing their job. He made sure they paid for it. Oh no, he never killed any of them, but by the time he had worked his traitor’s magic, many wished they were dead. The most recent lord, Asaroth… The name alone made him angry. He was not allowed to betray him, not fully any way. No one had been hurt and that was unacceptable..
Almost as unacceptable as..
“That damn mate of his.”
The large gray stag growled and shook his antlers, while he mused. Some small birds that had preached on his antlers startled and flew away at the sudden jerk of his head. Des let out a puff of air and closed his eyes, gathering his thoughts again.
It was her fault. All of it...
Des had been aware that Asaroth spent much time away from his kingdom. It seemed a sloppy way to rule to him, but Asaroth did always return to fight battles and that was good enough. He had not known where it was that the lord went so often, but that became less of a mystery when a strange looking black doe had followed the lord back to the demon realm.
Des had quickly captured the animal and locked it up, with every intention of destroying it after a meeting about and upcoming battle, but much to his surprise Asaroth had halted the meeting, released the animal and didn’t return until it was locked in his room. He had an odd feeling about the doe before, when he had spotted the demon mark upon its neck, but he had no doubts about the creature when Asaroth had locked it up and returned to the training grounds with a strange woman.
It was no doubt that the woman was the deer. Same red eyes, same mark .It wasn’t hard to figure out. Demons have so many forms that it was not unusual to see one taking a mate in another species, but Asaroth’s choice of mate had really angered him. It was hard to say if he was just so set in his own ways, or if he was jealous.
None of the past lords he had served under (like himself) had ever taken mates. He thought at the very least Asaroth should have taken a female demon as a mate, if he was going to have one at all. The doe was no doubt a poor choice in his mind for whatever reason he could think logical. In short she had to go.
Des had planned to get rid of the doe and betray Asaroth at the same time, by stealing her and handing her over to another lord who wished to take Asaroth’s kingdom in the upcoming war. The plan had started well enough, but Des had underestimated the two of them..and now here he was, locked in a forest with no escape and in the form of deer. It was all her fault, that doe.
“Night Shade.”
He popped his fangs together and perked his ears, taking in the sounds of the forest, filtering out the meaningless ones, as he searched.
It was uncertain why he was locked in the forest and so close to Asaroth’s family to boot. Again Des thought that was a sloppy way to rule, but he wasn’t going to complain. If the fool Asaroth wished to make his job easier he would let him.
Des had raged when he had found out about Asaroth and Night Shade’s offspring and he was halted in his first attempt to kill one of them, the daughter, Lilith she was called. The offspring were currently away training with their father, so he would have to wait to deal with them later. A pity, but he had found another easier target for the time being.
The beast let out a low growl as, located what he was looking for. He got to his feet in one swift quiet motion. It was true that he was a bit past his prime, but there was certainly nothing decrepit about the stag. He was stealthy and sure on his feet, a true snake in the grass, slipping quietly through the forest, only being noticed, after he struck some helpless victim and then it would be too late for them.
He was a predatory beast and took great pleasure in the surprise on his targets lips and the fear in their eyes as he killed them; however he had times where he would allow himself to be seen before an attack and take pleasure in the hunt. the chase. This was; however getting more rare, he liked convenience and little effort more and more the older he got.
This time he didn’t want to hide from his taget, nor did he want to chase it down. The most horrible thing he could do to his new chosen was talk to it. He knew he would enjoy a slow mental torture better than a quick slaughter in the current situation.
Des continued his slow deliberate journey until he reached a small clearing. It was surrounded by tall birches. It looked almost like a hole had been blasted through the thick expanse of trees completely clearing out one small section, leaving it almost bare except for the grass that had grown in small batches only where the sun would shine down from between the branches of the canopy. It wasn’t enough ground cover to hide a beast of his size, but it was more than a fitting resting place for his chosen.
He focused his icy gaze and scanned over the grass, searching quietly until his eyes flashed over black fur nestled amongst the brown of the tall grass. The stag let out a soft pleased snort and quietly made his way over to where Night Shade lay. He stood just inches from her, watching her as she slept.
She had not stirred in the slightest at his approach. The way she laid there carelessly dozing away with such confident arrogance, both frustrated and fascinated him. How could she sleep so peacefully knowing he was in the forest and could rip her apart at any time he wished?
He had almost done it one time before with little effort upon arriving in the forest. The doe was still in her winter fur and black as pitch only broken up by her red hoofs, Asaroth’s mark and the scares along her hips.
She grunted in her sleep and rolled away from him, curling her long bushy tail tightly around her body. The doe’s single moon earring made a slight jingling sound as she shifted around. Des wondered briefly how the creature before him was even considered a deer. Deer didn’t have fox like tails, much less earrings and her body shape was more like that of a hound than a deer. He tilted his head and looked away from her briefly to gather his thoughts.
What she was and why she was, was irrelevant. He had seen odder looking deer than her, some with human faces even. The forest was no doubt an odd place. How the hell had Asaroth even found it and a mate in such strange conditions? He just didn’t get it. It was so pointless and stupid. He dropped his gaze back to the sleeping doe, halting his wandering mind. To let a mind wander in the presents of a target or an enemy was a foolish thing to do. He was almost appalled at himself for allowing just that one single moment of weakness.
The brute lowered himself down onto the grass in front of the black doe, being careful not to disturb any stones or rustle the grass. When he was settled he checked to make sure Night Shade had not woken up, satisfied that she had not, he relaxed and continued to watch her, plotting all the while. His gaze had drifted many times to Night’s throat. Her neck was so perfectly stretched out on the ground, just begging to be ripped open.
“It’s too easy.” He thought to himself.
He wanted to enjoy destroying Night and ultimately Asaroth. There had to be something else. He had a few half formed ideas, but they required some work and information. The kind of information only the doe could give him and he knew she would never tell him anything willingly, but he could try, effort and careful planning could make his task all the more rewarding.
A slow smile slid across his maw. Oh yes if he was going to hurt Asaroth and his family he was going to do it right and he was going to enjoy it.
“You are alone so often now.”Des said slowly, watching the small doe for any kind of response.
His voice came to Night like a bolt of lightning sending, a shiver down her spine, before her eyes ever opened. A lump caught in her thought as she snapped her head up to meet his icy graze with her scarlet orbs. Her first instinct was to run, but she knew he would have her on the ground before she ever took a first step.
The doe pressed her lips together, trying to steady her rapid breathing. She would not allow him to see her fear, though she was deathly frightened. Night had been through a lot in her short life but nothing had ever upset her as badly as Des. He pointed out all her flaws, illuminated her insecurities and could kill her in a blink of an eye. He was dangerous.
“Does it bother you?”Des continued, amused by her attempt to cover her fear, such a wasted effort. He could smell it all over her. See it in the way her lip quivered when she looked at him. There was no hiding it.
“You know he will rip you apart if he catches you near me Des.” She hissed narrowing her eyes on the large stag. She tried to sound confident but was disgusted by the way her voice broke when she spoke to him. “If you value your waste of a life you will leave now.”
He snorted, amused. “I asked you a question doe. I want an answer. As for Asaroth..If he is such a grand protector where is he now eh?”
“Where he is does not matter to you. He could be here in an instant if I needed him.” She slowly shifted and started to scoot away from the stag. She was bluffing. “As for your question… I owe you no answer and I suggest you lose this sudden interest you have taken in my personal life.”
“You would stare your own death in the face and still act defiant?” He growled getting onto his feet. He towered over her, forcing him to, lower his head to be at eye level as he spoke to her. “Your choice.. oblige me with a simple answer and possibly live to run later. Or drown in a pool of your own blood as you watch me rip your guts out and eat them in front of you.”He snapped his fangs together at the tip of her nose to motivate her just a bit more.
Night Shade let her ears droop as she backed away from her interrogator. He had her trapped. Die or die what a choice! She just loved demon logic at times. She took some comfort in knowing her children were safe with Asaroth, at least she only had herself to worry about.
She didn’t know why he was suddenly asking her questions. The doe was disturbed more by his passive aggressive conversation, than if he had just ran up and gutted her. “I’m never truly alone. If you hurt me he will know the moment you sink your fangs in and you will pay with your life. There happy?” She paused trying to read his expression.” As for question number two. Why should it bother me? My mate has his obligations and I’m used to being alone thank you.”
Des had to give her some credit. She had told him what he wanted without revealing a thing. Nothing he could use anyway. He had to break her somehow.
