I've been drawing a lot for a while. Some of it is tef related, and some of it is for a human character of mine xD Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy what I have to display.
This image set is for Sabel. I'm just experimenting with her hair length and appearance xD
And here we have hatchet... a deer Sabel met xD he belongs to .69
Practicing anatomy :U
I tried making a human design for sabel, but couldn't get the posture or expression I was after.
Sabel's face is just so sweet and believable. Your style is so good! It's lively and fun to look at, almost like a comic book, except a really good comic book full of action!
@Bayleen: Thank you very much xD the last post is a work in progress... I've never drawn a dynamic full body before. So it's a little difficult.
Trust me, I do x-x" I just hate it when my sketches don't come out right. The few that do are here xD
@Phantom: Ah, it's one of my favorite parts to draw. But it gets difficult depending on the brush I use xD do you have any tips? You art is always so beautifully colored and has such a cartoony, painterly style. I really envy it.
@Fishbiscuit: I've been trying so hard to capture her expression. xD I want to make it content, but nearly unreadable. It's quite difficult.
well, I take a lot of my technique from artists like Glen Keane or Ryan Woodward (aaaand another) when it comes to my sketching, it shows a lot better when I do people over deer because I am more comfortable with them, but still |D I just pay attention to the movement of the character and the world around them, especially with hair.
I like to block out the main shapes the hair takes first, and then use lines to define it's flow. I'm not the best at explaining sorry |D I'm going to try and illustrate with examples
I decide where the hair is laying and block in the general shape, and block in the shapes of his haircut, like the fact that he has a set of bangs that hang in front in their own little chunks and the rest falls behind his ears, and I look for where it interacts with his body, like how it would fold over his neck if it's laying over his one shoulder.
And always keep in mind that hair is only anchored to the skull, like here his head has been thrown forward and down, so the hair falls with it, flowing from the roots. Because really the only time hair is not going to be affected by gravity as much is if wind is a factor, a little wind is only going to grab a few chunks of it, a lot of wind like in a storm or when you're moving fast is going to affect the whole thing.
Once the shapes are down I go in and I draw some smaller lines for the detail of individual hairs, but not too much. It's a balance of having sharp detail in some places and not in others that can make the illusion of light and movement.
I don't know if that was helpful at all or if you meant tips only about hair or not |D Like I said I have a hard time explaining myself sometimes lol
@Phantom: The way you structure and base your art is amazing. I'll certainly keep in mind your tips for hair- I usually have a hard time positioning it. Blocking it out can be a little difficult for , because I tend to over detail things at times. This is particularly troubling with weather conditions- I forget to alter the hair to match them.
@Acacia: These are fairly rough sketches, but I can see they are based on actual movement. For instance, the pose where the creature appears to be jumping in the air looks incredibly similar to a fox jumping into the snow. Whoever made these has a good idea of anatomy for that animal.
This is one of my newer sketches. The only part I'm really having issues with is the curviness of the tail, as well as how the tuft at the end should act.
you pretty much had it from what I saw when I took a look XD The only real difference is my style vs yours really, I say it's pretty much fine the way you did it~
also I really, really love they way you draw legs ok, with those cute dainty hooves X3
Well I never work without references. I used pictures of coyotes for these poses, and yes, that first one was a coyote pouncing, much like foxes do. I onl;y use the pics for the rough sketch, then I flesh out the character from there. Those were for a canine-based creature, so I'm hoping I can do well on it. Waiting for the player to tell me which pose they want so I can flesh out the more detailed pose.
@phantom: Not if another artist sees it and starts getting suspicious D8
@Mozdog: Thank you. xD it's the main style I draw in.
@Acacia: it's harder for me to use references xD unless they are of skeletons. Those are way easier to work with. I look at the skeleton, sketch the basic shape, then leave it alone :'D
Ah- This is something interesting I was planning on getting into xD
When she is casting her magic ((healing or illusion)) her horn will be curved. However, should she ever face any danger where she must physically act or defend- it will be straight and spiral- very sharp. She has never used her horn for combat and thus has not experienced this yet, but if she should, her horn will be incredibly sharp and able to impale or cut through flesh extremely easily.
I realize that depending on who I draw sabel with, she is represented differently. Tochza is stoic, sturdy- so Sabel appears extremely playful and mischievous. Sadiki is elegant and mysterious- so Sabel appears mysteriously unreadable. :'D
Tracking!!!
This is really great! I hope
[e] also the ones of just deer bodies where you're practicing anatomy- really good work.
ooooh how lovely~ I love the

I wish I could quick
These are some pose examples I made for someone for a character drawing I'll be doing for them. Just quick and general.

This is my first time doing them like this- well, aside from one other image xD
I'm trying to match the body more realistically to a deer. but Sabel is also part unicorn, so there are some things I can get away with :'D

Tochza!!!! <3 <3 <3 OMG that
Which reminds me...
Her unicorn horn, I know it's only there when actively using it, but I was curious if it's a curved one or straight, and if it's smooth or spiral?
Ah- This is something

PS: I really loved doing tochza's antlers c:
