It was late in the day, grim,

It was late in the day, grim, the sky a silver-grey, and pouring it down with rain. The overcast sky darkened whole swathes of the forest to the miserable, drab tones of wet bark and sodden ground. Hynde picked her way through the trees uncharacteristically slowly, eyes locked on the ground, clearly in search of something. She was clearly exhausted and exasperated as she ground to a halt, and hung her head limply.

Samara saw her looking,

Samara saw her looking, albeit far away behind a tree. She slowly moved closer to the other deer, trying to figure out what she was doing. She kept going closer and closer, trying her best to stay hidden. She knew that she was looking for something, but she couldn't figure out what.

Hynde stared at the ground

Hynde stared at the ground and pawed at it, slowly coming to a standstill as she heard encroaching footsteps. Her ears flicked back and forth, panning towards the direction of sound. As silence fell, save for the gentle susurrus of the trees, her curly-haired hackles raised in anticipation. She whipped around and stood bolt upright, facing the deer before her, and jumped backwards in shock.
Chest puffed out, she exclaimed, exasperated "Humph! And who might you be?!"

She also jumped in surprise,

She also jumped in surprise, and took a few quick steps back. "Oh, um. I'm Samara! I totally wasn't spying on you, I promise! I just saw you looking for something and was... curious?" She had a very embarrassed look on her face, as if she had just done something horribly wrong. "Well, is there any way I can help?"

"Samara is it? You could help

"Samara is it? You could help by not stepping on my findings." she said, blowing a strand of dripping hair from her mouth. She lowered her eyes to the ground, and gestured at the small collection of fly agaric mushrooms nestled in the forest moss that Samara had her foot in. She laughed, and used her magic to slowly levitate the pile off the ground and to eye level. On their ascent, they wavered as if suspended on a string. She placed them on her back.
”Come on, I'm sick of this. Let's get a bit of shelter and sort these out before they rot" Hynde mumbled as she started off towards the old oak, "I'm Hynde, by the way."

"Well, it's nice to meet you!" She followed her towards the oak, occasionally looking for more of the mushrooms along the way, although she didn't find any. "And uh, sorry for stepping on your findings." As soon as they got to the oak, she asked "What do you need these for, anyway?"

"Nice to meet you too, I'm sure the mushrooms will be fine." She said, trailing off as they approached the tree.
Hynde huffed as she descended to her knees and then made contact with the musty earthen floor of the oak. A shiver of her shackles sent the mushrooms cascading to her side, where she collected them up to a pile once more. Outside, the drizzle was dripping over the mouth of the oak's crevice, blown inwards by the wind. She turned her head from the opening, shielding her nose from the biting cold.
"I was going to burn them with heather and birch bark, it should make a hazy blue smoke that, hypothetically, should attract and connect to minor natural spirits, making them briefly visible at night." She grinned happily.

She quickly went into the oak, she didn't mind the rain but she didn't want to possibly ruin any more of the mushrooms. After looking around inside briefly she layed down and watched Hynde use her magic. "Oh! That sounds interesting? What were you planning to do with them?" She took a look outside and sure enough, there were birch trees, but she didn't see any heather. "I hope you have that stuff with you, I can't say that I do." Admittedly she was a little bit worried at the thought of starting a fire inside of an oak, but she figured Hynde knew what she was doing.
