Emmett's picture
Christmas and New Years was a big rush! busy busy busy! But I've had so much fun. I hope all of you did too.

Introducing a new Character to accompany Emmett on little adventures around the forest.
I'll be writing this shorter now because I'll be busy for a little while with school and whatnot.
I wrote this down fast, very sorry. QwQ

"...Are ya awake yet?"

"wh-what?"

"Oh! -whew- I thought ya werent gonna wake up or somethin’!"

I.....I'm not falling?"

"No, silly! Ya were havin’ a bad dream I think.."

Emmett opened his eyes, closing them again as he brought a tiny cloven hand up to shield them from the bright sun.

"Boy! Were ya really runnin’ in your sleep, musta been scary in there, huh?"

The dazed fawn rubbed at his damp eyes, was it really a dream? It felt much too real to be just a dream. He felt like he was still falling, despite being flat on his back. Emmett narrowed his eyes as he began to adjust to the bright sun shining through the tree tops, watching birds hopped from branch to branch singing their songs while the curious red fawn stared down at him.

"Ya alright?" he asked quite loudly.

Emmett lifted his head slowly, sitting up from where he lay to look around himself, he was not where he remembered laying down to sleep.

"What was all that wiggling for? Ya looked scared, was a big monster chasin' ya?"

He looked up at the red fawn, big blue eyes peering through shaggy bangs into emmet's own browns, he had white markings on his face making him look like he was smiling, and kind of smelled like mud. The red one tilted his head to the side.

"My momma says that monsters aren’t real and that they’re only in your head, so the next time you have bad dreams ya just lookit that monster and tell it to go away and never come back.” He gave a sharp nod. “My momma also says that if ya eat lots of green things before ya sleep you can be strong enough to fight the monsters away. Do ya eat alot’a green things before sleep?"

Um, no.." the fawn said quietly. Come to think of it, he hasn’t had anything to eat in a while other than a few mushrooms and such.

Well it’s no wonder you had a bad dream! I had a hard time wakin’ ya up, I even used this stick to poke ya with but ya still didn’t wake up." He waved the stick around, giving the air a jab.

Y-you were poking me?" Emmett reached for his side, sure enough finding a sensitive spot at his rib.

"Yup, I poked you a lot."

...

You’re quiet, aren’t you? My momma says that the quiet ones usually have a lot to say. I dunno what that means though, she use to say alot’a things like that. Where’s your momma?

I...I don’t know.” Emmett’s eyes gazed down at the ground.

Did she go somewhere? My momma says that a mother never leaves her child...” he pondered for a minute, crossing his arms with a look of deep concentration. The red fawn lent in and whispered. “did ya run away?

N-no, I dont know where my momma-uh, my mom is.

Oooohhh...” Red sat in front of the fawn, leaning in and inspecting his little face before sitting back upright with a serious expression.

Is she dead?

Emmett winched, sending his ears back.

Wh...what?

She dead?” Red repeated.

Emmett didn’t answer.

Oh...No, ya really don’t know, do ya?

The little fawn shook his head.

The red fawn scratched the ground a bit, occupying himself while the other fawn brought his knees up to his chest, his mother always told him to watch what he said to others, the look on the sad fawns face made him realize he really needed to think before saying stuff like that. Maybe he really hurt his feelings.

..Or maybe she’s lost, y’know? Lookin’ for ya right now probly...” He tried reassuring him; he could tell that it didn’t make him feel any better. He shuffled in his seat, flicking a few blades of grass while thinking of something else to say.

Hey, well... My mommas dead too, so... I mean, I’m sure you’ll find yours. My momma says that a mother would do anything for her baby. She said that if she ever lost me she would walk to the ends of the earth to find me, maybe your momma’s gone there too, I bet it’s not far, She’s prolly on her way back right now!

...You...you think so? But what about your mom? Did she really die? Aren’t you sad?

Nah, I’m not sad, not anymore. My momma told me before she died that she would always be with me no matter what, when I’m scared she said that even if she’s not here she will always be here to protect me, so I shouldn’t be. Oh! I forgot to ask, whats your name?

My name is Emmett.

Emmett, hm? That’s a pretty nice name. I’m Ishmael. Since we both have nowhere t’go do ya wanna stay together for a while? We could play and find food and stuff like that. It’s not fun bein’ all by yourself is it?
