Fulu walked along the edge of the water. She looked to the side, watching her daughter carefully play around in the shallows, making frogs jump. She smiled, her black eyes twinkling under her bird mask. She lowered her head to nibble at some dandilions. She saw Kailani get a little too close to the deep end.

"Watch out, Kailani, you're pretty close to the deep end!" She called over to her. She nodded slightly as she saw the little blue and white fawn come towards shore again.

Kailani Lowering her front

Kailani

Lowering her front end, rear in the air and curled tail arched slightly over her back, the little fawn’s tongue stuck out in mock concentration as she crawled slowly up behind yet another unsuspecting amphibian, her butt giving a little wiggle before she pounced at it. The frog leapt away just before she came crashing down upon the shore line. Giggling, she splashed into the water after it, chasing it from one cattail plant to the next before the poor frog decided to head into deeper waters. She followed it to the drop off, standing tall in water just past her knees as she watched the green form disappear into the murky darkness.
“Watch out, Kailani!”
She startled at her mother’s voice, slipping a bit in the muck below and almost falling forward. She caught herself quickly however, peering wearily into the water again as the surface rippled from her stumble. Kailani didn’t like to admit being afraid of things, but the deep end of the pond was definitely a place she was not eager to visit anytime soon. She nervously backed up to a safer distance before putting on her brave face again.
“I wasn’t that close, mamma,” she protested, but never the less turned and trotted from the danger zone to her mother’s side. She gave her blue and white pelt a little shake, sprinkling the older doe with what little water had splashed up on her. Turning her head from left to right, she looked eagerly for something else to do, and someone to do it with.

Fulu smiled as Kailani came over to her, and giggled when sprayed with water. She lifted her head from the dandilions and kissed her on the head. "Maybe we should..."

"Aunt Fulu! Aunt Fulu!" A young doe trotted up to them, a friendly smile spread across her face.

"Afternoon, Faytha." She paused to look her over. "You've grown quite a bit since I last saw you!"

Faytha giggled and blushed slightly, turning her head to her smaller cousin. "Hi Kailani! Wanna do somethin?" Her little tail wagged in joy, aware that her father was not too far behind her, but far enough to let her have her independence.

A golden-brown stag with

A golden-brown stag with large, white antlers and a long, slender brown face limped weakly to the Pond. The wounds upon his body pained him greatly, and he had to force himself not to cry out as he stumbled over a rock. Tybalt stood atop the highest part of the bank, looking down at Fulu, Faytha, and Kailani. He considered calling out for Kailani, but decided not to do so, instead letting himself drop to the ground on his side. Pain shot through him, making him grit his teeth, but he was able to lift his head and look across the Pond, keeping an eye on the three deer.

Cerelia glanced over to the Pond banks, scanning the area. Two unknown deer (Fulu and Faytha) and Kailani, whom she had met the other day. She flicked an ear, turning her orange face a little, her odd eyes widening at what she found. That familiar decorated stag, sitting on the highest banks, watching his little one from afar. She let out a smile. Mercutio noticed, but took no heed to it, closing his eyes again to keep warm in the sunbeam.

Kailani lowered her head to sniff curiously at the plant her mother was eating, enjoying the smell of the yellow flowers but not quite able to imagine eating it. She was beginning to nibble things here and there, but not quite ready to give up nourishment from her mother. Pulling back, she accepted to kiss with a little squirm. The sound of hoof beats was the only thing interesting enough to keep her still a moment. She looked up eagerly, one ear fully pricked while the other lay lopsided as her green eyes focused on her cousin. A big smile appeared on her face, and the stillness was lost as she began to dance on tiny hooves in anticipation of play before she was even addressed.
“Fayfa! Yes yes yes yes!” she greeted and answered eagerly once the question was asked. She lept around the young doe before coming to a stop in front of her, raising her hind end slightly higher than her front, tail flicking to-and-fro as she gazed up at her cousin curiously, waiting for ideas.

Faytha bounced around with her cousin until she stopped, waggling her tail in front of her. She took on the same position, although she had to lower herself a little more to reach eye level with Kailani, since she was much bigger. "You're so little!" She skipped slightly and nuzzled her, "Hmmmmmmmmm what caaaaaaaaaaan we dooooooooo?" She skipped around in a circle in one spot, looking about playfully. "Hey let's go bat around some butterflies! Huh?" She looked down at her cousin with bright blue eyes, one ear flicking a fly away.

A look of slight indigence flickered into her gazt at being called little, ears twitching back as she hesitantly accepted the nuzzle. Though obviously being little was all she knew, the deer she was most often drawn to were large and impressive. Would she ever be? Standing straight again, she gazed at her pondering cousin in silence, shaking off the last of the ‘insult’ before allowing her ear and tail to raise to her growing excitement again. Kailani didn’t often get to play with other youngsters, and while Faytha wasn’t the ideal size or age, she was welcome company.
“Um….ok! she agreed, glancing at Fulu with question in her eyes. She didn’t wait for the go ahead, however, following quickly after Faytha as she moved off to find the colorful winged insects.

Oh aye? Why don't you go play with Kailani and Faytha?

Vipin stared down at resilient little Devi, who looked, now, like a mirror image of her mother. Her sallow grey eyes were deep set inside her skull, but still bright, and her little beluga antlers were already sharpening into fine obsidian things. The magpie stag seemed to be pleading with her, his own blue-grey eyes wide. Devi shook her head stubbornly, seating herself next to her uncle and another peacock doe who was studying them like one would study a very interesting object. I don't know 'em. Uncle Vipinnn, please play with me? Or Aunt Xy? She stared at her older relatives hopefully, but to her dismay Xylia laughed and ruffled the young doe's head with her hoof. Not right now... Dear, but I'm sure once... My fawn is born... He'll love to play with you. Devi frowned, her skull creasing, and she shrugged and stormed off, leaving her relatives to get much-needed sleep.

Faytha bounced over to a little patch of flowers, jumping about at the little wings that had the misfortune of floating too close to her. She misplaced a hoof at one point, and toppled over, but she laughed it off anyway. "Isn't this fun?" She asked, still hopping about. Faytha spotted a familiar golden fawn, although that fawn didn't know her. "Devi! DEEEEVIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! HI DEVIIIIIII!" She reared up, shouting after her, waving her front hooves all about. It never occurred to her that she was the oldest one there.

The little blue and white

The little blue and white girl pranced through the purple flowers, the wind from butterfly wings kissing her cheeks and making her giggle. Surprisingly though the fawn seemed much more subdued now, eyeing her cousin who bound about like she normally would. There was something strange about that. Many of the fawns Kailani had met so far had not seemed to have liked her…and those who agreed to play were quite mild in their behavior, leaving her to be the loud and outlandish one in the game. Having another with the same energy made her feel strange, and the spotlight was suddenly shifted away from her to the butterfly-nipping young doe. With a look of determination she bit her lip and leapt into the air, trying to jump higher, blowing air up into the insect’s fragile wings and causing them to flutter off course.

Faytha’s sudden shouting startled her. She landed wrong and fell over into the bed of flowers before immediately poking her head up and gazing in the direction of the fawn not too far off. Devi? She didn’t know anyone by that name. She carefully wobbled back to her feet and shook off, tilting her head towards the newcomer.

A little ways away, glaring

A little ways away, glaring into the pond's brilliant surface stood a pitiful fawn. He had never had the bright peach-orange fur of a normal fawn, his fur was a dark brown at birth. It was already fading to black, his livid white spots beginning to grow brighter and whiter into the pattern of a spine down his back. His lower half had yet to seperate into ribs, it was instead just a black-brown, a fleck of white here and there. The fawn stood out so much from other spunky fawns that he sank into the background, unnoticed and neglected. The dark fawn's eyes were nothing special, a warm brown, dulled with recent tragedy and malnourishment. He'd lost his mother only a week earlier, and with no father to take him in, had made attempts to raise himself. He was managing; just doing a horrid job of it. The fawn wasn't bright and a little plump like other healthy calves, he was emaciated, incredibly skinny. His dark fur was in total dissarry, and he was weathered with dirt. The fawn's left ear was clipped from the flood accident that took his mother.

He stared angrily at the pond for a long moment. A dirty, lifeless, malnourished and totally hopeless gaze met him. Snorting, Uio raised up and shattered his reflection with white cloven hooves. He was dirty, and the pond was clean. Usually his mother would have groomed him and washed him. Sometime he heard other fawns squealing and complaining to their mothers about thier baths, but oh how he would just melt with joy for that treatment again. A mother to sleep by, to nurse from, to love. But the orphaned fawn hadn't that any longer. In fact, he only cherished one thing in life currently, and that he spotted frolicking with another two fawns up the bank and below the Abiogenesis hill. That thing that he cherished was one who would accept him, dirty and abandoned as he was. He'd spotted his friend Kailani, but dared not approach. Her mother, and the fawn's mothers lingered nearby. He didn't want them to see him. He didn't want thier strange, pitying glances.

Faytha whirled around before

Faytha whirled around before she got an answer from Devi to look at her cousin, "Oh migosh! Are you okay?" It seemed like she forgot that she fell over herself not too long before. She smiled seeing that Kailani was okay, and looked back over to Devi, only to find another, dark fawn. She knew him from somewhere, but couldn't remember. She lowered her head to meet Kailani's, "Hey, isn't that your friend? What's his name... ummm..."

Fine. She didn't need her

Fine. She didn't need her older relatives. What made them so great anyway? Sure, both were incredibly attractive, well-known, and had a touching story, but Devi knew, she knew that she would grow up to to be better than both of them. She could see it now; an elegant golden doe, her grey eyes shining as she winked at lovestruck stags, flying over the Endless Forest with deer on her hooves, hoping for a chance at her heart-- Devi rammed into a nearby tree, deep in thought, and fell to the ground, blinking the blurred images out of her mind. Her legs flailed out around her as she struggled to look up, catching sigh of Faytha and Kailani. With some difficulty, for her skull made her lopsides, she rolled onto her thin little legs and wobbled for a bit before turning to study the two young does. Hi Fayth-ha, hi... Kail-- Whuzzat? She cocked her head at Uio, unsure of what to say or do.

He rammed his small kirin antlers into the stump, ignoring the ringing that went through his skull from the resounding force. If anyone passing by had asked what he was doing, he'd answer "training". He saw how strong his parents were. He wanted to be strong, too. Thus, he trained himself often. The stump was already covered with marks, proof that the young stag had done this many times before. Soon, he'd switch to sprinting, before taking a break at the pond.

[ Laughing out loud Yep. Spade "attacks" a stump to train himself. My mind is a little dead right now, so it's hard to think of something good to type, but he needs to be in here. XD Notice him now if you want; I'll continue with him later.]

“I meant to do that,”

“I meant to do that,” she answered Faytha a bit defensively, picking her way through the flowers and shaking a butterfly off as it landed on her ear to gaze closer at the approaching fawn. To the young fawn’s disappointment, Devi was once again older and larger than she was. Was she always to be the smallest? A snort and a giggle escaped her as she watched the young doe walk straight into a tree, and for a short moment she felt larger and more grown up. What sort of silly deer would walk into a tree, after all?

Her attention was drawn away as her cousin addressed her once more. Turning her head curiously, she tilted it to one side, blinking at the doe before following her gaze toward the pond. Friend? Standing quite a ways off was a fawn, the spots still visible on his dark pelt. He seemed to be looking at them. Her tongue stuck out a bit as she peered forward, straining to make out his pictogram.

”Mmmmmmm OH! It’s Uio! HEY UIO!” she shouted excitedly upon recognition, half rearing and stomping at the flowers. She then began to make her way towards him, only to stop short uncertainly and glance back at the two does. She thought a moment, looking back and forth between the two, before making her decision and bounding toward Uio. He was, after all, her age, and there was nothing stopping the other two from following. In fact she’d love to introduce him, if only she had the social skills.
“Hewo!” she called as she came nearer, her run turning into bounds and leaps.

[I'll have Kail see spade after Uio replies...or whoever else XD I think she'd get a kick out of him hehe]

"Uio! That's it!" She saw

"Uio! That's it!" She saw Kailani stop halfway between them. Faytha winked at her, which must have let her know to go after him. In truth, she had never met Uio before, but she had heard of him from either Kailani or Fulu, she didn't remember who. Seeing Kailani bound after Uio made her want to go after him as well, but before taking off she looked to Devi. "Come on, Devi! Let's go see Uio!" Without waiting for an answer she hopped back down to the shore, paying no heed to any shy feeling whatsoever. "So you're Uio? Hi! I'm Faytha, Kailani's cousin! I've heard a little bit about you!" She smiled at him. She felt like she was just one of the little guys, even though she was still the oldest among them. She was that close to adolescence, where her pelt and possible antlers would grow in. It perplexed her how Devi and Spade were born with their pelts and she and Fenkovan had to wait for theirs.

Fulu caught sight of the three and sauntered over to them. She smiled, seeing Uio and Kailani together again. She was glad she had a friend other than Tybalt. He was a good care taker, but not the greatest role model. Not that she could stop her daughter from idolizing him, though. At that thought she sighed, but shook it off. "Hello Uio. How are..." She looked at him fully now. "Goodness sakes, Uio! You need a bath!" She got a little closer to him, lowering her head and softening her voice. "I could bathe you if you want..."

(SORRY IF FULU SEEMS... i dunno, creepy, im just trying to make her seem helpful XD she most likely knows Uio doesnt have a mom and probably wants to partially adopt him or something, i dunno, but i kinda jumped at that "wanting a bath" thing XD SORRY. ill take it out if its too creepy XDDD)

Devi wrinkled her skull to show her distaste for the young male fawn, her grey eyes glinting with dissaproval. Her golden ears flicked and she looked farther up the shore, sighting her brother ramming up against a tree trunk. Spade! Spaaaaade! She bounced towards her twin, nearly tripping over roots and snags with her unnaturally long legs, ending up tripping anyway over the exact same trunk he was practicing on. Again, she hauled herself up and sat, exhausted next to him, watching him in amusement for several seconds. You have Uncle Vipin's antlers. She commented, rather smugly, and without waiting for an answer spoke again. So what mask do you want? I think that loooong brown one would be good for you.

Anyoooone?... Calamity poked her head around the pillar, narrowing her eyes and searching for familiar faces. A nameless and two fawns. Bah. She frowned. She knew Aspen was 'spending some time' with Magnet (In her mind, that meant other things.) and Vipin was making sure Xylia do anything that could harm her and her future child. Was she the only one without a mate these days? She sighed and pranced in the direction of the Pond, her mane of green feathers untidily wrapping around her face.

He blinked again at her smug observation, about to reply that he knew, but he was cut off before getting a word in. He frowned, as that somewhat irritated him. But the frown turned into a thoughtful look, turning his gray gaze skyward as he pictured her mask suggestion. "Actually...I was thinking of wearing that one..."

Some pebbles fell to the ground, disturbed from where they had been resting atop the ruins. Kinsha paid them no mind as he sniffled. He'd had a cold for the past few days, and though it wasn't that bad anymore, it was still enough to get on his nerves. Sniffling again, he laid his head back on his legs, careful to keep his balance, staring blearily at the moss lining the stone. He probably caught someone's attention with that sneeze, but at the moment he could care less. He just wanted this cold GONE already!

The pond rippled around his feet. For a moment, the dark calf thought over stepping into the water and cleansing himself. He flattened his ears in dissaproval and stepped back, shaking his head so that his torn left ear would lie flat. When he heard his name, his little head snapped up to watch Kailani debate between coming to greet the rugged fawn, or staying near her mother. Uio was delighted as she chose him, trotted forward to meet them. He had a rugged, wind-blown appearance, and atop his little head small grey double-tined stubs rose up. He seemed to be maturing quickly. "Hey Kailani!" He said. The calf's voice was a little deeper, but still had a childish touch. He was beginning to be able to enunciate correctly, but sometimes in his excitement he would stil mistake L's for W's. Kailani was tailed by her mother and another fawn. "Hullo Faytha. I don't think I met you before, but it's so cool that Kail has relatives like that!" His tail wagged in furious excitement, and his ears pressed forward hoping to hear more conversation; it was rare for him. Fulu startled him, and he stumbled back on spindly legs, crashing into the water right after she'd finished speaking to him. Sighing, the embarrased calf cleansed himself in the chilly water, eyeing the fawns on the shore.

Kailani slid to a stop in

Kailani slid to a stop in front of the dark colored fawn, and would have crashed into him had she not caught herself quickly, rocking back on her hind end and letting her hooves slide in the dirt beneath her. The big unfaltering grin on her face was a sign that she was clearly unphased by her stumble, her curled tail once more wiggling like that of an excited puppy. Her attention moved from Faytha to Uio, and she seemed pleased with herself, as though she were showing him off. Sure she had her cousins, and Tybalt, but Uio was the first fawn that the little blue and white doe could befriend…or tolerate her, one or the other. Of course, she didn’t realize his appearance nor circumstance were…well, less than ideal, and that many would be less than impressed with her choice.
“In’t he cool?” she giggled to Faytha, once more talking of him as though he were a possession.

Green eyes watched curiously as her mother was spotted approaching the group. She looked on excitedly as the older doe addressed her friend, giggling at her statement. He really was rather dirty. Kailani liked to roll about in the dirt from time to time too, but she couldn’t imagine looking that way all the time. Uio however didn’t seem to take her mother’s intrusion very well. She watched curiously as he stumbled back, water splashing up on him before he appeared to slip in the mud and fall into the shallows. Her eyes grew wide for a moment and she held her breath, wondering what the little male would do. She knew of his dislike for the water, though never fully understood the reason. Upon seeing his weary yet alright expression her ear flicked forward, and she couldn’t help but let out a little snort of laughter.
“Uio, you siwy thing” she mimicked something her parents had once said to her, trotting boldly into the water and circling around him, peering down at him with a goofy smile.
“Mama gives good bathes. Better than icky pond water. You’re gonna smell like fish,” she advised, leaning in closer and playfully sniffing at him before puffing her cheeks out and making fish lips while wrinkling her nose. She couldn’t hold the pose long, bursting into another fit of laughter before leaping promptly over him and running to hide behind Faytha in case he retaliated.

Faytha, though slightly

Faytha, though slightly unimpressed with Uio, smiled widely at the new acquaintance. She could see why Kailani liked him. To her, he was a cute little thing. To Kailani? Who knew. She peered around with shiny hazel eyes, watching curiously as the dark fawn greeted them, and Kailani offering her a question of approval. She closed her eyes happily and nodded cheerfully. Faytha spun her head around as her aunt came over, gasping at Uio and making him fall. Her ears perked, all attention focused on him and whether he was okay or not.

She looked up for a moment and smiled, seeing he was okay, and took a little pleasure in watching her cousin prance about him. She let out a soft giggle, waiting for Uio to get up. "She's got a point, Uio, we don't want another fishy deer, do we?" She was, of course, referring to Tropa, who she had known through Clock, who was probably her best adult friend. Along with the thought of Tropa, she thought about the stag she had fallen inlove with, though forgotten his name and his appearance. She sank into her own little world in thought, desperately trying to remember his name before Fulu caught her attention again.

"Well, I won't do it if he doesn't want one." Fulu smiled gently, trying to ease away. She didn't want to come off too strong, after all, Uio was a little shy around mothers. She didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable or sad, although she didn't know the entire story. She lowered one ear, and raised another, which was a subtle way of mimicking Kailani. She never did it on purpose, actually, it just happened after her daughter was born. A sort of unconscious link between mother and daughter. Zilant pointed it out once, but she wasn't paying attention at the time. She tilted her head at the dark little fawn in patience.

(okay, i realize i said Faytha had blue eyes before, but i got mixed up... you can see where her terrible memory comes from XD)

In't he cool? The statement

In't he cool?

The statement made the already flustered fawn blush with the embarrasment of a compliment. Or he took it that way, anyway. Uio stood up, lowered his head to the water, eyes gazing upward at Fulu. He disregarded being called 'siwy' quickly, but certainly hadn't expected Kailani to wade in and make the water sting into his nostrils. The all too familiar feeling to helplessness; of drowning; of slipping beneath the surface rose up in his mind like a furious barking stag; but was immediatly diminished when Kailani sauntered up playfully. He spun around after the bold fawn who circled him, eyeing her; probably sizing her up for a good tackle. He coiled back when she mimicking the fish, and threw up his stubby antlers playfully, bolting after her. They squealed and play-fought, until Fathya spoke up.

"Another?" he questioned, skidding to a halt as Kailani leapt for cover underneath her mother's stomach and giggled. His unproportionally large ears swiveled forward when Fulu spoke, and his tail shot up, making him stand taller and more confidently, despite his uneasyness. Slowly, his tail and ears fell flat and his hindquarters dropped in submission. Uio padded up to Fulu, looking away and ready for a good cleaning. The pond incident had already cleaned him considerably, and with being wet his caved in, emaciated stomach was even more obvious.

---

Don't worry; Uio will get better. He's beginning to adjust to adult food, and despite a little malnourishment from not suckling, he'll pull through it all just fine. :3

Faytha giggled, "Yeah, I know this cool doe who was a FROG once! She's cool but she's always wet..." She stopped herself before she started to babble. She wasn't one for babbling, but it slipped out of her every so often. Just in time too, the two little fawns started jumping about and playing again. Before she decided to join in, Fulu made her offer, and she kept quiet once more.

Fulu smiled softly as Uio came over to her, glad that he accepted her offer. She lowered her head gently and began cleaning him. Though he was already mostly clean, he was still wet. And being wet wasn't too pleasant for a fawn. He needed some drying off. She looked at his skinny stomach with a little silent sigh. No way for a fawn to live, though he seemed to be doing fine. She continued until he was almost completely clean and dry, then went over to the water for a drink. She lifted her head to look over at the group, and smiled at Uio, "There, all done. Not so bad, was it?"

The young fawn laughed as she ran around Faytha in a circle with Uio is pursuit, kicking up her heels at him. She was a fast little thing, and the older she got the longer her legs grew out of proportion to her short, compact body. She slipped agilely beneath her mother, spinning around and sticking her head out beneath the fluff of her belly to peer out at her play partner. Her smile faded into a curious look as her eyes drifted from Faytha and her curious statement to her mother’s inviting expression. Backing away, she pulled her head up and moved to the de’s shoulder, watching Uio approach wearily. For a moment, the youngster was unsure how to react to this. True, she had seemed all for the bath a second ago, but Kailani was developing another bad habit; Selfishness. She was an independent little thing and didn’t spend much time with others, and when she did, things went her way…or no way at all. Sharing her mother made her a bit uneasy, even if it was with her… best friend?

Then again, as much as she boasted her mother’s bathes, she honestly couldn’t say she’d want to be in his place.
She took another step forward once the process was complete and looked him over, tilting her head to one side, and in such a way that her flopped ear for once appeared to stand tall upon her head.
“You’re bumpy,” she stated bluntly, eyeing his ribs and hip bones through his drying fur. She leaned closer and closer, continuing to inspect him, then suddenly lifted her head and gave his cheek a wet lick, giggling and running off, splashing through the shallows and ducking into a cluster of cattails.

But you can go talk to the dragonflies or something. Devi argued stubbornly, with a trace of smug mockery in her tone. Carilynn's eyes flicked from the off-white little boy to the golden girl, and with a slight purse on her lips put her hoof gently in between them. Weee dddon't have to g-g-go if Spaddde dddoesn't waaant to go, the young doe said gently, but Devi huffed her dissaproval. But I wanna play. Uncle Vipin and Auntie Xy wouldn't play with me. Her skulled lips formed into a pout, and she looked down haughtily at a patch of grass in front of her. Carilynn, torn and not really helping the situation, swallowed and stared mildly at Magnet and Aspen's fiery little girl. She was showing to be a lot like her mother. 'Sides, there's lots of cute boy fawns down there. Her head snapped up and she grinned, flicking her many-colored tail and prancing off, leaving Spade and Calamity, who stared after her with an amused expression.

"She was a frog?!"

Uio was amazed, but it didn't show because Fulu's tongue slid over his forehead again and scrunched down his brow. Uio bleated dissapproval, and wiggled away as she finished his grooming. Sure it wasn't as bad as he'd thought but it was strange, anyway. He missed his own mother, and wished she still here to bathe him. Kailani stepped forward, inspecting the emaciated fawn. He certainly hadn't expected her to lean in so close and inspect so closely, and so for lack of words he leaned away and folded his ears back; his torn ear lying awkwardly against his head.

"I'm what? Bumpy? No I'm--" Suddenly the female fawn's wet tongue slid up his cheek, catching the dark fawn totally off guard. He stumbled back a step, but almost immediatly recovered from the sloppy tongue attack, sliding his front hooves down and stretching out his long forelegs. His little rump remained elevated, his rich-purple furred tail waving like a stalking kitten. He leapt forward into the pond, scrambling for his footing and diving after her in the cattails..

A stream of light hearted

A stream of light hearted giggling and splashing seemed to draw all nearby eyes to the pond. Kailani attempted to hide in the thick leaves of the water plant, but Uio was soon upon her, forcing her to make a splashy exit. The frogs leapt from their lily pads and dove deep for the muck to avoid the commotion, the fish straying further from the shallows, the ripples carrying them outward. The little fawn bounces around in the soft muck of the wade-water, somehow maintaining to avoid the little stag in pursuit of her, then moved back onto dry land, sending her back end into another gear and stretching her gangly legs to bolt into a run. The wide expanse of treeless green became her battleground of choice, and once she got into the middle she dug in her hooves and swung herself around, rearing up and them coming down with front limbs splayed and feather-down lowered in mock threat.
