The crisp fall air seemed to amplify the sounds of birds calling from the trees. It was at least enough to wake those still trying to make use of the last dregs of sleep well into the morning. Each chirp was now enough to make the sleeping mound of fur twitch. It was when a fawn decided to join the chorus that the mound finally grew a limb. One long leg reached forth to cover the beast's head the best he could. Another bleat. Moss groaned. There was no use trying to stay asleep now. Fine. The stag huffed and pulled his leg back away from his head. A sound like a heavy blanket being dropped signaled that the beast had fallen to his side, stretching out like a lazy dog. It took a massive effort to roll himself up to his feet, or so the lazy beast felt. He managed.
After a shake to rid his pelt of dust and leaves, the stag found himself dragging his hooves to the pond for a drink. The icy water made his legs ache as he waded in to a sufficient level and suck his face into the pool. Each hair on his neck ruff stood on end as the stag forced himself to endure a face wash. After wiping his face against his knee to remove water from his eyes, Moss looked up. He finally had woken himself enough to do whatever it was he was going to do that day. It probably involved a lot of lounging around. The stag blinked blearily and watched some koi swim by. Sometimes he wished he were still up in the ethereal garden, just so that he could be one of those fish again. There were fewer cares when gravity didn't matter as much.
After a few squelching steps, the beast pulled himself to dry land and flopped down in the sun. At least it is warm.

The night had been a restless
The small doe sighed and with a heaviness characteristic of her she pushed her slender body onto her even more slender legs and immediately felt the pain in her joints worsen with the added weight. Being up this early always made her feel more comfortable as most other creatures in the forest preferred to wait until later to start their daily activities. She walked awkwardly towards the pond hoping the refreshing liquid would not only quench her thirst but also sooth her aching joints.
As she neared the clearing where the pond resided she noticed there was someone already there and strongly considered just giving up on her quest to get an early morning drink; but she had already come this far, she might as well attempt it. V gulped audibly before scrunching her form into a petite ball, her neck pressed against her body and spine arched. She moved slowly and only a few careful steps at a time keeping her bright orange eyes glued to the stag resting lazily at the water's edge.
The stag almost didn't notice
The beast rolled to his side, lazing about like a dog in the sun. However, this laziness was calculated as he wanted to get dry. Moving his legs so as to expose as much of his belly as possible, the stag worshiped the sun with relish. Eyes closing like a cat, he let the world disappear for awhile. Maybe it was a bit too long, because soon enough he was snoring rather loudly. Each grunt was extremely comical, and soon a crow began answering him, and eventually the bird came close to investigate the snoring beast. It tilted its head and got very close to the deer's humanoid face, but was scared off by the snoring... a great rumbling so loud that it woke Moss himself. Quickly, the stag rolled to get on his feet... only to sink back down and shake his head. I am an idiot... he chuckled at his own thought, looking around to see if anyone had witnessed the embarrassing display.
V froze in place when she
When she finally lifted her with a refreshed expression upon he face did she notice that the snoring had stopped. V quickly spun in place to face the stranger once again. He looked friendly enough but if she knew anything it was that looks were deceiving. She felt the urge to wipe the water that was clinging to her chin away but was too scared to lower her head so she opted to lift one of her thin front legs up as high as it would go and meet it there with her chin. She kept dead still eyes on the stag at all times.
