The creature's eyes opened, brown eyes that almost seemed wooden. It's body was rooted into the ground, taking in water and nutrients from the very earth it slept upon. On it's moss-covered body were tiny orifices that let out gentle spores, those who landed on the ground created little mushrooms.

The mushrooms surrounded it, a tribute to the ground for the gifts it was given. It raised it's body, the roots growing on it's underbelly recoiling and entering back into it's body. The fungus on it's face was worn like a strange organic mask, growing past the face and fanning out like the rays of the Sun itself.

The creature had no recollection of who it was, what it's purpose was, if it had any family...there were only faint memories.

Laying on the ground, watching a large deer walk away...crying...

Closing it's eyes, feeling it's body slip away...

Then gentle roots raised up, they attached to it, gave it a way to live...

The creature was able to stand and walk for the first time, all alone, but always hearing voices. The land was speaking to it, telling it that things would be okay, giving it the body it had today.

The creature was neither male nor female. It simply was.

It had never interacted with others like it, so speaking would be strange to it. It has only understood the whispers of plants and trees, it has never spoken to another deer.

But it is kind, and would never harm another. It hoped to fill kindness and compassion to those it met.

The strange creature continued on in the new Forest, leaving the little mushrooms behind, being very careful not to step on the delicate little creations. It soon found a sleeping fawn, and sitting by it, the creature rooted and watched the other slumber politely. The spores were released, and as they gently floated to the ground, the tiny mushrooms grew on the fawn's dappled fur. The fungus was harmless, and the creature considered it a gift of friendship.

The fawn would awake to find the mushrooms around, but not another soul close by. The creature would have moved on by then.

It stopped by the great Old Oak, and staring up, it took in the beauty and wonder of the gigantic tree.

"Hello...this one's name is Bodhi...", it spoke.

----------------------------

Please feel free to interact with Bodhi here, just so I can get used to playing it. It will not understand deer language at first, but then will slowly learn, so please be patient Eye

"A mystery ruin!" the deer

"A mystery ruin!" the deer cries in whispered secret. "Honestly, its history is unknown, at least to me. I figure it might have once been a building, perhaps a church or a temple, considering the gravestones and idols around it."

Bodhi's eyes widen with each word the wisp speaks. Much like a child that becomes obsessed with a toy and won't think of anything else, Bodhi's mind is immediately set on going to the Ruins.

"Oh yes! Yes! This one is very, very interested in seeing this mystery ruin! Oh please, take this one there!", it speaks ecstatically.

"Mystery ruin it is."

"Mystery ruin it is." Smiling, the deer turns to lead Bodhi off towards the mossy stone remains.

Bodhi follows eagerly, it's mind is wandering relentlessly with wonder of what the ruin would look like. It has only seen wilderness and has never seen anything man-made, or met a human before, so it has no understanding of things other than that which is natural and animal based.

Roe stared in wonder as Bodhi's roots entered the ground. "Bones?" Roe giggled. "Yes, I guess there would be bones in a graveyard. I've heard that the ruin itself is of a church and that the graves were converted pagan souls." She shrugged. "I don't know if that's true or not." She sat down next to Bodhi. She loved the cool feel of the earth on her belly. The breeze was light but still bathed them in the scent of poppies.
She looked over at Bodhi. "How did you come to be like this?" she asked. "I mean, you're like nothing I've ever seen before. I'm a healer. I use plants and fungi in my medicine and you . . . this . . ." she motioned to its root in the ground, "it's amazing."

Bodhi's smile faded just a little. It thought about the question thoroughly, but it simply spoke, "This one does not know how it has 'come to be like this'. It simply has been this way."

It closed it's eyes and remembered the first moments of it's life, "Wait...", it then said, "...this one does remember laying on the ground unable to move, and watching a large one much like you walking away. It laid there for a long time waiting for the big one to come back, but it never did, and this nearly left the world into darkness..."

Bodhi shivered here a little, but continued, "But then this one heard a beautiful voice that said it would take care of it, and from then it 'came to be like this' as you said. This one now knows that it was the voice of Mother Nature who spoke to it."

The plant deer opened it's eyes and said, "This one is glad you reminded it of those first moments of this one's life."

Orogalad smiled warmly. How intresting. This was obviously no ordinary fawn.As he was no ordinary stag.
The tree stag pricked his ears up and nodded with a slight head-tilt.
""Ahh...Learning to be happy...The trees love seeing deer happy. They are saddend by the mishaps that go on in this small world.Cheering up is what they need......"

He paused for a moment, staring at the Oak as the leaves on it's mighty branches quivered. As if it was agreeing with him.
He shook his head out of his thoughts and turned to the fawn again, feeling warmed.
""Hmmm,Beautifull you say....I am flattered dear one"
He chukled slightly,a deep,rumbling sound.

""Ba-hruummm...You ask of this place? Well...look around you....see the trees in the distance, their branches sway gently in the wind. The bees hum silently as they converse with the flowers, sharing secrets know one else knows....And you see the deer that jump into the horizon?
Welcome to the Endless Forest."

Wingeddeer -

Bodhi closes it's eyes for a moment, and listens.

In the distance, it hears the many calls of deer, a strange symphony to it as it had not heard them before. "Endless...Forest...", Bodhi repeats.

"How lovely a place this is! This one now hears them all, though they are so distant. Do they not like this great oak? This one thinks it is a wonderful tree, so noble and sheltering, but there are no others here to sit with it. This one feels...saddened...", it's frowns here just a little.

The tree entity nodded, his eyes sparkling in his wood-like face.He quriked an ear to the massive tree looming like a protective fortress in front of them and let out a sigh.

"The mighty Oak has often sat with no one.Other deer seem to busy to keep it company. The only exception is a rainy day, where the tree offers it's protection..."

Orogalad took a small pace forward, looking back to Bodhi and flicking his ears toward the hollow in the tree.
"Step closer and you will be greeted by a steady hum.Others are not fond of it.But I find it quite soothing. It's like....like the tree is trying to tell us something."

((LOL I just realized our font colors are similar!))

Bodhi nods and slowly approaches. It steps before the Oak, and then hears the gentle humming from within. It closes it's eyes and begins to hum too, a long, medium-pitched hum.

When it finishes, it speaks, "The Oak is a place of deep spirituality. The gentle sound it makes is it's way of soothing and relaxing those who sit near. It is a truly beautiful tree, here only to help protect and heal. It is such a shame that very few come and visit it. This one will sit underneath it every day it lives here."

Orogalad glanced at the fawn

Orogalad glanced at the fawn with sharp intrest. It was not everyday he found one talking like this.A warmeth began to fill his chest as he stepped toward Bodhi and touched his nose to it's head.

The entity's highest gesture of respect.

He lifted his head up and looked into the great Oak,tilting his great head.He loved the tree too,it was like an ancient elder among such young ones. The wisest of them all.Willing to share it's secrets...

"Ba-rummm....I sit within it too as often as I can spare.Which..is alot of time.I listen to it as I relax, for it is the most wise, and is willing to share it's secrets...."

(Lol ^^ it's quite ironic, them being both plant deer.Which is awesome.I'd love to meet him in-forest sometime Eye)

quadraptor's picture

Secrets...secrets..., Bodhi's

Secrets...secrets..., Bodhi's mind wandered immediately. It listened even more to the Oak.

"Oh yes. This one can hear it whispering now. And such a beautiful voice it has! This one wonders what kinds of secrets the Oak keeps, and what it will tell. And maybe this one can tell it secrets too."

Bodhi was so relaxed that it released some of the spores from it's back. The spores gently drifted and landed in many places - the ground, the roots of the Old Oak, and even a few landed on Orogalad. As they touch a place to land, they immediately grow into little glowing mushrooms, which are harmless and really quite beautiful.

"This one wonders if the Oak speaks to Mother Nature. This one has many questions for the Great Mother, especially it wants to ask who the big one was that left this one laying on the ground before the Great Mother gave it life.", Bodhi spoke. It's words would probably be confusing to Orogalad, who may not understand that it was nearly dead with born, and it's real mother, a real doe, left it thinking she gave birth to a stillborn fawn. Somehow Bodhi came back to life, but at that point it was part plant as well.

It takes a little longer than

It takes a little longer than from the Oak to the Pond, but it is not long before the ruins rears up its stone columns and pillars and graveyard's headstones on the horizon, hidden only partly by the few trees that surround it.

"And here," the wisp proclaims, bouncing off already, "is the Ename Ruin!" It bounds a few meters then stops to wait for Bodhi. "Announce your presence, O ruins!" it shouts, and laughs. "Show your spirits for my new friend, Bodhi--right here!" Almost not realizing what it has just said.

Bodhi's eyes widen as it sees the Ruins for the first time. It was very surprised when the deer speaks about spirits, and even after it does, Bodhi sees many white orbs start to fly around the Ruins. They weren't fireflies, they were wisps just like the one that led it there.

"Oh! This one sees many others just like you! Did you come from this beautiful place? This one does not understand how stones can stack themselves like this..."

Bodhi had never seen anything man-made before, and didn't know anything about humans, so it was very confused at how the building had 'stacked itself together'

Bod-hi? I am Baum. I am a plant, too! A fawn peeked out from inside the Great Oak. Great leaf-shaped ears fanned out to either side of his head. His mind swimming with questions that threatened to spill, the fawn asked just one. Did you come from a seed, too? Big eyes scanned Bodhi, laughing in their sockets with the joy of someone like him.

Bodhi was surprised to see the other fawn there. "Baum, what a lovely name! And no, this one did not come from a seed, it came from...", the plant thought for a moment here before it spoke, "Umm...actually...this one can't remember much of where it came from. It saw a big thing walking away, but then it heard a beautiful voice tell this one 'everything was okay', and then this one became part of nature too."

Bodhi tilted it's head a little here.

Orogalad nodded slowly and looked inside the hollow.Dark, yet warm.A great place to relax indeed.

"You can always tell secrets to the the Old Oak,it yearns to hear them,as it yearns to tell it's own,but be paitent....For trees do not say anything...Unless it is worth taking,a long time to say.
You ask if it speaks to the mother? My dear fawn,it is part of her,her offspring.Mabye it will share secrets about her..."
He inquired, becoming curious himself.oh,how he would love to know these things.

He rumbled gently, eyeing the fawn as spores floated freely from it's back and onto his own pelt.He sighed as mushrooms magicly rose before his kind eyes and he chuckled. How lovely!
""Ah...What beautifull mushrooms.."He mused. His head tilted in thought for a moment, then the tree entity shook his mighty rack crowned with moss, flowers, and dandelions.

A single yellow dandelion was shaken loose and he caught it on his hoof.Gently,Orogalad placed the dandelion on Bodhi's head.Chuckling.

""There we are...we now have a part of each other" He smiled

Bodhi smiled happily, "This one will love speaking to the Oak then!"

After Orogalad put the dandelion on it's head, Bodhi was ecstatic. "Oh goodness! This one has never been given a gift before! Thank you, this beautiful flower is delightful!"

The plant deer wanted to tilt it's head, but was afraid the dandelion would fall off. So it just slightly tilted it's head, the flower just barely swaying. "Are there other big trees in this forest?"

My name means "Tree". I think yours... means.... "Smart." The fawn announced proudly.
Baum twitched his ears a little, thinking about where Bodhi said he had come from. The ground saved you, I think. The fawn nodded, smiling. I think that's very good. It means the other plants like you, so I will like you too. Though naive Baum did not realize what he was saying, he should have been glad to make the other plant's acquaintance anyway and not judge him.

The fawn came out a little more, a vine dragging from its belly like an umbilical chord. After all, it had just recently left the safety of the log it was planted by. This was Baum's method of receiving food, since his branches had not come in yet. A sniff and a sneeze later, the fawn told his companion that he smelled like mushrooms and blueberries.

The word 'mushrooms' made Bodhi smile. It immediately sat without saying a word, the roots lining it's belly digging into the ground. It then released several spores from it's back. The spores gently land all over the place, including some on Baum's body, and when they land they quickly grow into little growing mushrooms. The mushrooms glow just a little, and are completely harmless.

"Do you mean mushrooms like these? This one was asked to make the world green by giving mushrooms to the world. This one loves mushrooms.", Bodhi says, seeming to lose track of what was being talked about.

Baum smiled, rushing over to Bodhi and nuzzling him. Yes. Like these. I don't think I have ever seen glowy ones... except... Want me to show you where? De Drinkplaatz had those beautiful mushrooms. They glowed faintly and released that blue smoke.

Baum nudged Bodhi gently to his hooves. Let's go see them. I would like to show you cause you like mushrooms.

"Actually...no," the wisp-deer says, watching with amused surprise as the other orbs float around. "These appear to be souls or spirits. I am a soul, but I am not one of them, and I did not come from here...as far as I know," it adds in admittance.

"Oh, the stones?" It looks around. "I suppose someone must have put them here in such a way. It certainly does not seem natural, does it?"

"Souls...spirits...hmm...this one has never heard of these before, but they are very pretty. Perhaps this one can get to know them better.", Bodhi nods here. It then looks up at the big structure, it's eyes widening here.

"Natural or not, this one thinks this is a very beautiful place! This one wonders who it was that made this then."

It then notices the strange gravestones and pagan idols on the ground. Approaching one of the idols, it stares at it blankly for a moment.

"Is this a 'spirit' too?", Bodhi asks, a genuine question displaying its ignorance of what idols really were.

Then follow me! We will go

Then follow me! We will go see those mushrooms! The fawn started off, making sure the other was following him. They brushed through the tall grass of the birch, finding their way by smell mostly. The golden grass almost seemed as endless as the forest, but then they arrived. A smoke the color of blueberries rose from the mushrooms. They glowed faintly with a deeply-embedded forest magic.

An ornate-looking doe had the same idea that the pair of plants did, and arrived across the circle of mushrooms. She headed straight for the fountain, and as she passed through the circle a miracle occured. The doe turned a dull brown, a pair of chocolate-hued antlers sprouting from her skull. The magic mushrooms had completed their work. Of course, the doe would be back to her flamboyant self as she left the circle. Baum hopped to face Bodhi, smiling. So whatcha think, Bodhi? Are they not the most amazing mushrooms you have seen yet? They hold a very old magic in them.

moonsoverwater -

Bodhi was speechless. It was very hesitant to cross the plane where the mushrooms were, seeing it's new friend transform in such a way. "Is it safe? This one is afraid...", it said at first, but then approached. It reached over with one hoof, and watched the vines and moss on it's leg transform into brown fur. Bodhi's wooden-like eyes opened widely, and with courage, it crossed onto the other side.

The fungus on it's face vanished, as well as all of the moss, roots, vines, and leaves that made up it's body. It replaced with brown fur and white underfur. Bodhi's heart raced as it transformed this way, and running to the fountain, it looked at it's own reflection.

"What has happened to this one?!", it cried in fear. It didn't know what emotions to have - it was afraid it had become something other than what it was supposed to be.

Much worse, it was afraid that it was letting Mother Nature down by losing it's mossy coat that produced the fungal spores it was supposed to be spreading. Bodhi had an unnecessary panic attack here, simply because it did not understand what was going on.
moonsoverwater's picture

Bodhi! It is safe. It is the

Bodhi! It is safe. It is the magic of the forest and the nature in here. The fawn joined him, his lightly-greened fur turning brown as he crossed over. The plant nuzzled his now-furry friend. It only happens inside here. More magic happens in the circle too, if you drink the water you can be a different animal in the circle... but the magics go away if you leave it. Bodhi is Bodhi again, and Baum is Baum. In here, the mushrooms let us be deer for awhile.

The plant was perplexed by his friend's reaction. Why would he be panicked by such a fun magic? Baum nuzzled his friend again, before drinking a bit of the water to show the other fawn how fun this place was. A rabbit stood where Baum had vanished, wiggling its velvety nose at the fawn. It nuzzled his leg, smiling before hopping in a circle. Baum giggled and rolled over, exposing his rabbity-belly-fur. His antics over, the bunny raced outside the circle, morphing quickly back in to the friend Bodhi knew. The fawn trotted back in toward his friend, smiling. See? Magic.

Bodhi was very hesitant about

Bodhi was very hesitant about all of this. It does not understand magic so to see things appear and disappear right before it's eyes is actually very frightening. It slowly relaxes, and bends down to drink from the water itself, only to turn into a frog.

It croaked and croaked trying to communicate, but it didn't even understand it's own language. Hopping, it left the mushroom circle, only to reappear as Bodhi in it's plant body.

"This one does not understand all of this. What do you mean by 'magic'? It is all very confusing to this one.", the plant deer admits that it is very confused here.
moonsoverwater's picture

Magic... It is a part of the

Magic... It is a part of the nature here. It is all things that might not be what they seem to be, but make the forest in to a fun place. At least, that is what my mom told me. Magic isn't so scary when all the mushrooms in the forest have it, is it? You have it, or you would be just stuck to the ground all the time, I think. Plants like us don't normally walk around. Magic lets you. He tried to put it in the simplest terms, explain it only as his child mind could.

Bodhi seemed so new to the world... with no mother to guide him. This place has magic. It can turn a plant in to a deer, a deer in to most any animal in the forest. The mushrooms on trees can give deer masks. The mushrooms in circles anywhere else can give you magic to turn others in to animals... or shrink them. The pinecones give you magic to give others different antlers. And sleeping next to another sleeping deer can give you the ability to change the color of someone's fur. That stuff is magic... There is even someone in the forest that sighs butterflies out his mouth!

Baum repeated his mother. She had taught him a lot before she disappeared, like a good Endless Forest mother should. She had cleaned nettles from his fur despite it making her tongue itch. Bodhi had obviously never been cleaned... he was spouting mushrooms and fungus all over the place! Then again, he was a plant.

Bodhi's eyes widened with every word Baum spoke. "You mean...not all plants move around? This one thought there were others like you and it, this one was very excited to meet other plants that walked and spoke like you." It was a little disheartened here, but still, all the words about magic were very interesting.

"This 'magic'...it's amazing to this one. Where does it all come from?", Bodhi then asks.

Orogalad chuckled warmly at Bodhi.A deep rumbling sound;Like the shaking of mighty tree branches shaking off the winter season and heralding the spring.

The tree entity gently rubbed his shoulder against the little fawns.""Hmmmm..My pleasure little one.I picked the dandelion because for me at least it symbolises bright youth." He replied.""I hope we become good friends, you and I" He smiled again, even though he barely met Bodhi,he started feeling a fatherly connection with him.Or like a mentor. He could see himself keeping an eye out for this fawn in the future;Like an old oak sheltering it's sapling.

"Other big trees you say? Yes..Yes,but none can match to the greatness of this one.But I do know of others in the Birch wood especially. Some in First Wood too.Would you like to see?"

Baum lowered his head and shook it, no not all the plants moved. In fact, only plants derived from deer moved.

Magic... The Gods. They are where it came from originally. Mom said that they were the ones that put it here so we could have fun. He smiled, proud of his perfect recollection of his mother's words. And that the Great Oak was a God, once... but she sacrificed herself to become this whole forest for us. And the noise you hear... is her heart beating and telling the world her secrets if you want to hear them. He smiled, now excited. He would teach Bodhi what his mom taught him, if the other plant wanted. They could learn together.

Bodhi's eyes closed here, and it listened to the sounds of the Old Oak. "Oh, this one hears it. What a beautiful sound. It truly shows how healthy and alive this Forest is.", it spoke, and the roots on it's belly relaxed and dug into the earth here. It raised it's head and stared up at the beautiful Oak, and focusing, it released it's spores, which wafted and attached onto the Oak, lining the bark with the little glowing mushrooms. "That is an idol," the bright deer says, walking up behind Bodhi. "A Pagan idol, to be exact." It tilts its head. "To be truthful, I do not know why it is here, or any of these things. Same with the Pond and the trees," it laughs. "But they are beautiful, are they not?"
