The young buck sat contentedly in the patch of blue flowers near the playground. It was one of his favorite places to relax as the breeze always seemed perfect. He watched as the birds flitted around him, landing on him and taking off again. A smile formed around his muzzle. He sighed and lowered his head. Sparrow closed his eyes and listened to the forest around him. He thought he heard another approach, but he was lost in thought and content in the aroma of the flowers and the breeze.

'Approach' was not the right word for what happened. The doe careened toward him, eyes on a quick-moving swallow she had been chasing all morning. Both were finding themselves tired, but neither wanted to stop playing. As the swallow swooped upward, both finally gave out. The flower patch made a soft landing spot for the pair, and songbird laughter created an unorganized melody as both doe and swallow lay exhausted in the patch of blue flowers. Poplar appreciated the birds here, they were nice. They were much nicer than the squirrels, anyway, who would not share their acorns. Flopping over, the deer finally noticed the presence of the other. She peered at him, his image sideways in her eyes. "Oh! 'Scuse... please 'scuse me... er.. us. Sorry to interrupt your quiet n' all." The swallow also tittered an apology before taking off to land in a nearby tree for a good nap.

The doe grinned. "I'm
yay! Role play
"Poplar?" Sparrow's head tilted the other direction as he thought the name over. His large ears were forward at full attention. "Like the trees. Poplar trees! They're like aspens . . .my favorite," he mused. Sparrow marveled at her position - so unlike a deer! Not that he could talk, he supposed. He spent half of his time in trees! The buck tried to remember if perhaps he had played with the doe while in his bird form . . .but he wasn't sure.
He chuckled at her comment. "They certainly will let you know when they're not in the mood!" He smiled again. "Can you talk to them? The birds? I can speak to them . . ."
The doe nodded at the comment
"I understand them and they understand me, but we don't use words. It's more of a body language. How do you speak to the birds? Can you whistle? I can't whistle." Pop was not built for whistling, if you didn't count her grumpy snort. That had a bit of whistle to it. It also scared away the birds. She preferred their song close by for comfort.
-Sorry about the slow
"Body language goes a long way," Sparrow replied. He thought of his own body language with the birds . . .how he bristled his fur or moved his ears or even carried himself. It became even more important in his bird form. "When I'm a deer, I use body language, but I also just talk. We just understand each other. Now," he continued, "when I'm a bird, I talk like a bird." He smiled warmly at her. I'm sure I sound daft, he thought. Sparrow turned his head to look up at the little bird perched in the tree, offering it a smile as well. "I like both forms of talk though." The buck turned his head to nibble an itch in his side.
(alcajnl I had so much muse
Her breath came in quick rushes as the white blur that was the doe's legs carried her as fast as they could manage. Isaita had gone and upset some stag she'd bumped into and was now running for her life even though her pursuer had given up the chase some minutes back. Her blind goal was the tall grasses that made up the good majority of the Birch forest, and maybe even the Playground, she could easily hide there, too!
But alas, the sanctuary that was the tall grass that could hide her, also doubled as a twisted joke that laughed at her short height. The doe was at the mercy of her not-so-good internal navigation. In other words, she was lost. Feeling more panicked than before, the brown doe barreled into the closest bush her blue eyes could find- a flowery bush, from what she could gather before her eyes closed and she dove into it.
( :'D Oh wow. That sucks~)
.
The doe paused. Changed in to
She was talking to a deer that could transform into the prey of her best friend. I think I need to teach him about fishing. The doe vaguely recalled a time when she saw a great hairy beast catch fish in a far away river. Maybe Wen could do that same thing in the pond? Her body visibly relaxed so as to not give too much agitation to Sparrow. She worried for him.
Grae: Sparrow chuckled at the
Sparrow chuckled at the doe. "No, no special abilities . . .except for flying, of course." He turned his head to look at her fully and smiled. "I'm a fast little bugger and I doubt your friend could catch me." The young buck winked at her. "Tell me a bit about yourself. Are you from here?" Always polite. Sparrow knew of no other way to be. He breathed in the sweet scent of the flowers and bathed in the warm breeze.
Sarcastic:
Sparrow heard something approaching him at a rapid pace. It didn't sound very large, but it did sound frantic and sometimes frantic things could be dangerous. The young buck stood warily, looking around, his large ears swiveling to pinpoint the sound. As he scented the air he could discern a doe. She shouldn't be a threat, he thought, relaxing a little. The crashing twigs and branches concerned him though - she might be in trouble. "Hello?" he called, always polite. "Are you alright?" He waited for a response as he looked around for the hidden, frantic doe.
Within the safety of the
"Hello?"..."Are you alright?" The doe's body froze, the muscles locked and her ears started to swivel to locate the source of the questions. There wasn't supposed to be anyone near- she hadn't seen or smelled anyone! But now that she wasn't running, she could take in the scents around her. Ah, there. Definitely the scent of a male..rather close.
"Uh..yes?" She looked around, but there was only leaves and flowers in her view. "Um...Where..Where are you," she questioned, since she was too scared to blindly search but she wanted to know where the other was.
(I just noticed that she's rather fawn-like ._. Here's to doing nothing reply-able! :'D )
.
(you so silly!!) Her voice
Her voice sounded timid and unsure. "I'm probably in front of you! A little one you must be!" He chuckled lightly and began searching for the lost doe. Muzzle to the air, he scented her out on the breeze. He was right - she was only feet in front of him. The buck stepped forward and kneeled down to get a better view of her. "Hello there! My name is Sparrow! And you are . . .lost, I presume?" he smiled warmly at her, hoping he didn't frighten her. Though he didn't know how an antlerless and small buck would be intimidating.
As the buck came into view,
"Isaita." A pause. He didn't seem to be threatening at all, but some deer liked to play mind games. "I'm..not lost.. But I can leave i-if I'm in your territory or something?" Always cautious of what other deer thought, she started to gather her legs under her in case she needed to make another run for it.
.
(sorry it's short - brain is
Sparrow watched the small doe intently - she seemed so scared and unsure. "Territory?" he cocked his head as if confused. "No Isaita, no territory. No one owns the forest, though some may like to think so." The warm smile surfaced again. "What were you running from?" He plopped down in front of her so that she would see he wasn't a threat to her. Sparrow softened his face and held his large his ears neutral.
Blue eyes trailed down to the
"Oh," she squeaked, "I.. Um.. Well... I was running from..uh..a deer?" Yeah. That's helpful. "A, um, deer that claims territory. That's wh-why I thought...you know." What started out as frantic stuttering quickly turned into an almost muted reply that ran together. She peeked up at his face to see what he might be thinking of her, she was making quite the fool of herself.
( :'D This one's even worse! I think my brain farted somewhere in there lol)
.
Sparrow sighed at what she
"..To their nether regions."
"That's..That's really good to know, uh, Sparrow," she replied, relaxing by the second. He wasn't much bigger than herself, now that she really looked at him, and he had no antlers! "I, um..I'm sure you're really nice..I'm just..I just was a little jumpy is all?" Excuse turned question. If she was going to lie, she should get better at it. "I'm fine. Really. Just...you know, got a little scared is all.." More lies. She smiled to make it seem like she was telling the truth, but it felt a little strained.
"You, uh.. You d-don't sound like you're from around here," she said, turning the attention to him. ..That was rude. "I-I-I mean, I..um, have never seen you before?"
.
Sparrow nodded in
"I don't sound like I'm from here?" Sparrow asked with a quick head tilt. Then he realized what she meant. "Oh! My accent must've come through, yeah? Yeah, sorry. You'd think me a bit daft if I told you where I'm from. Or at least, I know you've never heard of it." The accent came through loud and clear this time. he thought a minute and then nodded. he was a polite deer and direct, and he thought it better to always tell the truth. "I'm from a place called Great Britain. Very far away from here, it is. I . . .I'm not actually sure how I got to be in the forest. Or how I became a deer." He looked quizzically at her, almost as if he expected an answer or revelation from the shy, timid doe.
((Sorry for being so
The doe nodded. She definitely hoped he was fast enough. "To be honest with you, I am not that interesting... nor can I remember much of my life. All I know is that I was born here, spent some time Outside this place, came back and died somehow... then somehow I was back here." Well, that was really how she viewed her life these days. Other than that she was just your average deer. She looked normal, acted normal and had a past that was blind to her. Had she really been normal then too?
The doe pressed her nose into the flowers and shook her head. The exercise was to try to clear it, as the muddledness was creeping in from trying to remember her past. It always seemed to happen: her mind would go slow and she might feel as if her speech was being pushed through water. She would soon recover, though, usually by doing something like this.
Sparrow was pretty funny and
"Well, I was wrong to say that- everyone has an odd accent here, I s'pose," she said, nodding to herself.
Great Britain? Situating herself over onto her left side, she wracked her brain. "Um, it- that place- doesn't sound..familiar? But.. I ma.may have heard it somewhere before?" All questions- and not for Sparrow, but for her. She herself didn't know where she came from and the possibility that it was this 'Great Britain' place was slim. She had no recollection of it, but she may have heard it from a passing deer, perhaps. Again, the doe nodded her head to herself. "You're not the only one," she said quietly to him, with the quickest of winks. "At least you know where you came from," she'd meant it as a light joke, but it struck a chord in her heart and the strangled emotions slipped through into her words.
((icky ;; I have a question since you're an RN, if that's ok))

(Sarcastic - you bet your
Grae:
Sparrow was a little confused. She died? And came back? He tried not to let the confusion show on his brow. "How . . .how did you die? And how did you come back?" He paused. "I'm very sorry. That was terribly rude of me." He lowered his head almost as a scolded fawn would. "Sometimes I do speak without thinking about it. He paused again, hearing his accent in his voice. He usually tried to hide it, though he wasn't entirely sure why anymore.
The buck noticed that Poplar had her nose in the flowers, as if she was clearing her head. Sparrow knew the practice well - he often did it himself - and he did so now as well. He plunged his muzzle into the flowers and breathed in deeply, pulling in the sweet fragrance. He half mumbled, "I'm not from this forest. I'm very far away from home." It could have been a sad statement, except for the twinkle in his eye.
Sarcastic:
"There are other deer that aren't from here?" Sparrow marveled. He didn't hide his accent now. "How very strange! I wonder how they get here as I've no idea how I did. Literally woke up in a flower patch as a deer. See, I was a sparrow in Britain. Flitting around the city, eating and annoying people. Though all those memories are fading rather quickly . . ." He paused looking softly at the timid doe. "You don't know where you're from? No memory at all?" He gave her a quick nuzzle - a gesture of kindness and friendship. "I fear that is where my memories are headed. But . . .I'm not sure I mind. I happen to like it here." He looked softly at her. "What do you remember? Sparrow wasn't sure if he'd get much of an answer, but it was worth a try. He quite liked this little doe.
"Well.. Yea," Isa answered,
"I..I remem-.. I only remember this forest." A quick cast of blue eyes around her- at everything, in every direction- silently said that it was all she'd ever seen, ever known. The smaller tensed again as she felt the quick, unexpected brush of another against her fur, but relaxed into the touch fast and smiled up at the buck when he pulled away. Only Sparrow, it's only him, she reminded herself.
"And you may want to hold onto those memories..Think about them often," she continued, her voice softening. "Once their gone..you can't get them back." She hesitantly reached out to the buck, eyes to his as if to ask permission, and touched her nose to the side of his neck. "It's a terrible thing to forget where you came from.."
(She's such a downer P:
But I wanted to ask you if..Pfft. Firstly, you ought to know that I went and basically stabbed myself in the eye with my thumb nail. It's pretty close to the inner corner of my eye, but there's a nice..bloody spot/line and about a quarter of my eye is now tinged reddish-pink from the blood. I just wanted to ask if, well, if I'm going to be alright, if my vision will suffer and if the blood and discoloration will go away on its own?)
.
(your eye should be fine. The
Sparrow felt sorrow for this little doe who couldn't remember where she was from. He nuzzled her when she pressed his nose against his neck, trying to offer some comfort. "Knowing the forest can't be half bad, though. It is quite lovely. I am very sorry however that you can't remember. Perhaps there is a reason you can't, and in time, you'll be able to work out your past." It wasn't much in the way of hope, but all he could think of to say. "I was a bird where I came from, and I can be a bird here too. I can change myself back into my true form. How daft is that?" He pulled away and looked at her, a silly half-grin on his face. "Would you like to see? Maybe it will cheer you up!"
Blue eyes closed when Sparrow
The doe pulled back to look at Sparrow again. He can be a bird? Quietly, to herself, she said "But you don't have wings...?" Her dark brow furrowed, confused as to how he could be what he said. "Of.. Um, Of course I'd like to see," her curiosity getting the better of her. Expecting there to be some poof of sorts, she scooted back away from him, still skeptical.
(Thank you, icky <3 It'll put both my dad's and my own mind at ease a bit.)
.
Sparrow giggled at the doe's
(You're welcome!)
Scooting just the smidge
Hesitating for a second, she began to circle him, looking for any bird-like things about him. "How long have you been able to do that? Could you change yourself in your past life, too? How did you learn you could do..that," she questioned, her tri-colored tail flicking side to side extreme interest.
(Part of the discoloration has already started to go away, it's more..yellow-ish now. Except the..cut? part, that's still as bloody as before.)
.
(Yay! It'll take time to
Sparrow chuckled and watch the doe circle him, listening to what she was saying. "I can certainly talk as a bird, though I never could back home. Well, not like this at least. It sounded like this to myself and the other birds, but to any other animal it was all chirps and pips and chatterings." He playfully nipped at her, nibbling at her fur - a sign of affection from his bird behavior. "I've only been able to transform here. Something of the magic of this place I guess . . ." he trailed off a moment thinking. When he had first woken up, he was shocked and terrified to find himself here and in the form of a deer. He had run frantically around, looking for something familiar, when something told him to just stop and relax. He could be a bird. And he thought about it and became a bird. His old self. He was elated and had flown to a nearby tree, only to think about the deer form and he had transformed back while sitting in a tree. The buck smiled at the memory.
"I've been able to do it since I first arrived here. It just sort of, happened. I thought about wanting to be myself, my true self, a sparrow, and it just . . .happened. I was so happy I flew into a tree. But then I thought about my deer form and I transformed back in the tree. It was all very silly and confusing!" Sparrow started to laugh a bit. "Poor deer form me, confused and scared way up in a tree! But that's how I learned I could transform at will, so it was good." He noticed her still inspecting him. "I'm all deer when I'm a deer. The only thing I keep is my bird coloration." He smiled and nuzzled her again. "What do you like to do to pass the time around here?"
(lol I know, right? :'D I was
yoarr! |3Sorry she doesn't do much ;; She's so..scaredy that she doesn't really know what to do with company.)
Isaita nodded remotely as she circled, taking in and processing what the buck was explaining for her. "That sounds about right, like th--" Side-stepping away from Sparrow nips, she lowered her body slightly, unsure of what the gesture meant. After a second, she looked back at him, she resumed her circling. "Like the other birds here..I can't hear them.. I wonder how many are from other places," she mumbled to herself. She paused, still investigating everything she could see of him, to cautiously groom away a ruffled patch of fur at his hip and return the friendly touch he'd given her.
"Just like that," she asked, amazed. "You just..thought of your old self and boda-bing boda-boom you're a bird again? And the same for being a deer? That sounds.. Honestly, that sounds inconvenient..in a way." Looking to see if Sparrow was offended, she continued, "I mean, you were a deer. In a tree. What if you were flying over the pond or something? You could.. you know, drown or something!..Right?"
Finally coming to halt by his right side, Isa stopped her inspection. "I um.. Well.." I don't even know. "Uh, I-I just walk around and stuff? I..Don't do much. Time just passes and I just do whatever I feel like doing at the time," was her lame answer. "We..We could go to the pond? There's usually, um.. deer and stuff there? O-Or, um, it's also a, uh..nice place to relax and nap.."
.
(haha! no worries! I'm still
Sparrow figured his transformation needed some more clarification. "Well, luckily for me, it is a little more complicated than just thinking it. At first, that's all that was needed, but as I transformed more, I learned I needed to concentrate fully on the form I was to become. So I don't just have a fleeting thought and turn, so to speak. At least not after the first couple of times!" He chuckled. "Oh my! Could you imagine if I had been in flight? That surely would have been the end of me!"
The buck listened to Isaita stammer over what she did around the forest. He felt that it was her shyness and he nodded and smiled warmly. "It's true, there's not a plethora of things to do here. I think you summed it up quite well. I tend to meander around, lounge often, fly into the trees to lounge, or just fly throughout the forest. It circles back around you know - there's no end to it . . ." He looked around at her mention of the pond. Sparrow was quite thirsty and could use a good bath for his feathers. "Would you like to accompany me to the pond? I'm rather thirsty and I would love the company of my new friend." He bowed in front of her, and invitation to join him.
