Don't worry, you will get better with remembering the pictos. At least this was the case with me. I couldn’t remember anybody and wondered how other people who seemed to be able to recognise twenty or thirty different deer did it. I suppose it is a little like a foreign language – with time you will get the right feeling and know what to look for. I play the game a lot (maybe a little too much) and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.
And I don't think your picto is more complicated than others I have seen. Maybe you could try and find something it could resemble. An animal, maybe – if you turn it to the left it looks a little like a snail to me (with two antennae and a funny house).
