As we all know, Ferniq is... well... a deer, correct? But he has not always been a deer, until recently he was a human and due to unfortunate circumstances, he is now what he is.

Back in his previous life, he was a young English boy named Damien, who lived a prosperous and wealthy life with his family of five.

August 1842
Damien, the third son of Nathaniel and Gwyneth Barlow, is born on the 12th in the confides of the couple's small two roomed flat in Kingston upon Thames, England. The family already struggles with finances, merely living upon the very few shillings Gwyneth earns from her seamstress job and Nathaniel's small business job, so now the arrival of a third child, they struggle even more to feed and clothe their boys and themselves. Though sheer willpower, however, they manage.

On the 25th, Nathaniel takes the risk and opens his own industrial railroad business, and it unexpectedly booms, causing money to flow into the once poor family. Life becomes easy for them as they can afford all of the things they need and wish for. They soon move to London to live a better life.

September 1858
Now sixteen years old, Damien and his two brothers work alongside their father with his still successful business and are hoping to take over when he passes. Due to the business' popularity, other competitors have begun to sabotage and wreak the trains or the tracks they run upon. Now and then, the boys hop onto one of the running trains for a break and to mingle with the passengers. Unfortunately, on one of these days the crew who check the tracks daily missed one of the sabotaged rails, which has been warped and damaged out of place. 42 men, woman and children are killed in the resulting accident, including Damien.

Now, I believe that The Endless Forest is not only a world of it's own, it is also an afterlife for many people. Instead of going to either Heaven or Hell, or any other religiously made afterlife, people are reborn into another form, a pure form. That form being a deer.

This is how Damien became Ferniq.

His old name, form and memory was lost during the transition from the human world of the living, to this new world. He gave himself a new name, and since this transition is only recent, he is still trying to adjust to his new body. Some nights, he dreams of his past life, nothing really makes sense to him, but he can't help but feel a little deja-vu.
