non TEF question.
How do you get to sleep?
I have a horrible time getting to sleep, I lay down and just lay there for hours thinking about things, and no matter how hard I try I can't make it not happen.
I think too much about TEF?
Take a hiatus to see if that helps.
Was that the right thing to do?
Stay up all night thinking if that was the right thing to do.
Before TEF?
stay up all night thinking about other stuff.
I work two jobs. this cannot keep happening

I honestly don't know how I

I honestly don't know how I get to sleep. It just happens. Sometimes I go through phases of taking longer to fall asleep, but it always goes back to normal. Heck, I think I have to be distracted by daydreams in order to fall asleep so I don't freak out from feeling my body go numb. If I notice, I jerk myself back awake.

.... OMG I LOVE HIM AND HIS BOOTS. BWUUUHH ;3;

Gah, I've never had consistent insomnia like that. Maybe one or two nights where it takes me several hours... I just do what Pega said and daydream myself to sleep. I would say maybe try melatonin or something but melatonin never really did anything for me. Tylenol PM gel tablets have literally knocked me out before... I'm sorry I'm of no help :/

For the longest time I

For the longest time I couldn't sleep unless I had music on. I'd turn my TV to a music station, throw a blanket or something over the screen to block the light, and turn the volume down to where I could only here it if was completely quiet in my room. I'd just lay in bed and think the lyrics along and eventually I'd fall asleep.
Also, as I sorta, in a round-about way said above, I couldn't sleep unless it was totally dark (light from the TV would keep me up), so since I have a street lamp right outside my window, I'd wear a bandanna or sleep mask so I couldn't see any light.

Don't know if that will help you, but that's how I got to sleep.

setting up a sleep

setting up a sleep environment

1. separate your sleeping area from your awake area. If this means a room or just your bed, do not enter it until it is time to sleep. If you have no option, control light and sound as well as your position in the room/bed. Do not bring anything stimulating into bed.
ie: at home, I do not enter my bedroom at all during the day, only before I plan on sleeping. It is pitch dark and silent, a perfect atmosphere for deep sleep.
in school my desk and bed are right next to each other. While working I would have music on and lights high. I was facing one direction. To sleep I would turn off all lights and only play quiet, if any music. I would face the other direction while lying in bed.
This is to train your brain that in that space, you are sleeping and that's final.

If you feel too alert in bed, get up and go to another room. Read a dry book or pamphlet. Do some repetitive task. Drink a little bit of caffeine-free tea. When you feel sleepy, return to bed.
This is so your brain doesn't associate bed with not sleeping.

2. Make a nightly pattern. For seven years mine was stop working/no more screens (tv, computer, game and phone screens project light; this is the same sort of light as the sun and interferes with your circadian rhythm), brush teeth, hot shower, pajamas, brush hair (in dim light with quiet or no music), turn off all light and sound, get into bed. Repeating the same actions every night before bed trains your brain to recognize each piece of the ritual as you getting a little closer to sleep.

caring for your body

3. physical activity during the day (at least four hours before bedtime).

4. be aware of what you're eating in the evening. avoid sugar and caffeine.
my personal food and sleep issues are unusual so I can't offer much other specific advice.

I don't strive to be the best, but instead I strive to do my best, and always give it my all every time.

Cute deer! And how to get

Cute deer! Smiling

And how to get to sleep? I find drinking works the best. Vodka. On Ice.

I wish I wasn't joking. Frown

But yeah, I work 3 jobs. I'm putting constant unnatural demands on my body, sleep RIGHT NOW, get up RIGHT NOW. Body doesn't care for that so much.

I find it's really important to have a "wind down" procedure in the evenings. Needs to be something relaxing and not too taxing or stimulating mentally. So whatever that is for you. I read in bed alot. Or lately wander around the forest until my lids get heavy.

But yeah, I've made some recent big life style changes...basically cutting down from 3 jobs to 2. Less money but is resulting in a healthier, happier me.

Edit: Crap, you're only 17?!? Okay no drinkie for you. Diphenhydramine the active ingredient in tylenol PM is a safe effective sleep aid. But definitely try the non-drug options mentioned above first. Reading. Caffeine free herbal tea. <.<

to get to sleep I focus on

to get to sleep I focus on the feeling of falling that comes when you are tired... I take a deep breath and let myself fall, knowing that I will only fall, and not ever hit the ground... usually I wake up feeling like I am floating or rising to the surface of something. And also I imagine a pair of warm, strong arms around me. Sometimes it makes me feel less lonely and safer, which can contribute to sleep problems.

Something I recommend is

Something I recommend is getting some chamomile tea and drink that before you go to bed. It should help you get to sleep better.

What ForTwoLifetimes said

What ForTwoLifetimes said reminded me of something from an episode of Mushishi that worked very well for me when I tried it.

Imagine yourself as a big fish, swimming deeper and deeper into the ocean.
