Please test beta 6 before it goes public!

I have created a build of the remake of The Endless Forest that I would like to release to the public at large. But before I do that, I would really appreciate it if you would download the game and run it and let me know if you encounter any serious problems. There's still a number of bugs in the game but overall it should be very playable.

Please download The Endless Forest II beta 6 and send bug reports to test at tale-of-tales com.

Thank you! Ooh

Did you perhaps have patch

Did you perhaps have patch notes for this update?

My message was too long to share via the tale-of-tales Contact, so I hope it's alright to share it here!
  • A small nitpick, but the game looks a bit blurry, especially in fullscreen. Looking at the graphical settings, it doesn't seem to go up to my screen's resolution. My screen is 2560 x 1440, and the maximum resolution is lets me select is 2048 x 1152, and even that is with a caveat. It doesn't seem to be saving the graphical settings quite right, and I can get to 2048 x 1152 if I select 3k+ resolution. If I select my actual screen resolution, it saves applies 1920px resolution instead. As a result, the strange resolutions also tend to stretch the image a bit.
  • Another thing that causes blurriness is I think Unreal's default motion blur? It's hard to know for sure without an ability to disable/enable it.
  • The last visual nitpick I have is the tree foliage transparency. It seems to be rendering it via dithering, and it can be a bit eye-strainy when running through a very dense foliage area. Most particularly at the camera depth where the foliage is very transparent. It just creates a pixel lattice over your deer that can be a little hard on the eyes. As a solution, I would suggest going from slightly transparent foliage to fully transparent much quicker, instead of a linear transparency transition depending on how close it is to the camera. Basically, make foliage fully disappear quicker.
  • Lastly, the biggest issue I'm encountering is movement. It still feels very floaty and hard to control, like you're running on the moon. It is most evident when trying to run over non-flat areas with a lot of collisions. You can see below how my deer easily spins mid-jump, or spins while running without changing the direction of where it's running. In the last couple of seconds of the gif, I'm trying to run forward (where my deer is facing), yet you can see it stall backwards through the tombstones.
  • As a positive, I think the game looks and runs very well with forest density turned up, running in a slightly smaller window! I hope my mostly negative feedback is not discouraging, as we were asked for problems with the build, so that was my focus. Overall, it's very impressive! I'm also sure a lot of those issues are known, but I just wanted to be thorough and play is safe.

Greetings, i am unsure of the reason but i was not able to send my notes to the tale-of-tales com email.
Therefore i will do my best to share this short list of findings here and hope that you might receive them.
My only intent is to be helpful if possible.

Issues that are most problematic:
___________________________

- Dance music broken:
The deer's individual music tracks do not blend together when they are dancing.
The two tracks play independently and create a very unpleasant and unusable game feature.
(There is also an issue with the music getting "stuck on" unless you press the icon a second time)

- Idle animation interruptions:
There is a problem with the deer's idle animations being interrupted or "cut off" by another animation.
This happens randomly when they are standing still for a moment and then begin one of the
idle animations (ie: sniffing the air ) and before the animation can finish, it is abruptly cut off by a
different conflicting animation. While this is obviously not a serious issue, it does hinder
the player's ability to be immersed in the world and breaks continuity.

- Set damage:
( An older issue that still persists ) the set pieces being lost or damaged when reloading back into TEF1.
I understand if this cannot be fixed but i hope that we can figure out the issue as many players
have had to deal with this and some don't want to risk the unstable nature and avoid it because of this.
(ie: my deer lost his default antlers and candles when returning to the OG forest)

Quality of life / artistically important issues:
_________________________________

- Invisible fish:
The fish within the pond are not visible at all with the current water reflection.

- Butterflies:
The butterflies are are flat objects that move around without life.

- Disappearing ears:
Ears lay down flat against the deer's head and disappear when they walk backwards.

- Floating mushrooms
The mushroom circles float off the edge of the hills instead of being on the ground.
The mushrooms also feel perhaps a little bit too small?

- Strange water
The water reflection of the De Drinkplaats appears partly broken or unfinished?
The textures and shadows make the water appear fake and unnatural.

_______________________________________________________________________

A few small things that i really enjoy:

- The randomized ear movements stay "on" when the deer are in the laying down or listening positions.
( This creates an ever better feeling that our deer are alive )

- Tail wiggle stays " on " when in the laying down position.

- The flying animal forms at De Drinkplaats are spawned at different height positions in the air.

- There is a sound for when the deer are "sniffing".
