I'm so stuck on this spell data stuff. I made another account I intend to use but my spell data thing isn't working. any tips [detailed I'm a little slow sometimes]
Hey JesusFreak3,
Maybe I can help... I'm going to start from the beginning, so I apologize if I'm repeating things you already know. I just want to explain as thoroughly as I can. <3
The first thing you need to do is gather magic within the Forest itself. Once you have some spells, exit the game and head to Program Files - Tale of Tales - Endless Forest 3 - userdata. There are two files: Preferences.cgr and SpellData.cgr. I'll explain each in turn (and based on my own experiences with them). If any other players read this and notice any errors or have found new shortcuts, please feel free to correct me. <3
SpellData.cgr is the file you will probably use the most. This contains the "magic" (data) of the last deer you had online. To use an example, many players have the Zombie set because they have a SpellData.cgr file that contains the magic. To use this file, you need to make a copy of it. I usually tell people it's best to create a folder on the Desktop with a recognizable title - like "Zombie Set." Then copy and paste the SpellData.cgr file into this folder. Now, when you want to be a zombie, copy and paste the same file back into the original userdata folder (under Programs - Tale of Tales...) Follow any directions that come up (like, "Do you want to replace the existing file?" etc)
Now, to use it with two accounts/deer is a little interesting. You can use the SpellData.cgr file for ANY deer, BUT you must be logged into the "correct" deer. (The "correct" deer being the deer you wish to receive the "set" contained in the spelldata). I'll explain with an analogy:
Deer A is a zombie and you copied and pasted the SpellData.cgr into a folder on the Desktop for safe keeping. But now you have Deer B and you want Deer B to have the zombie antlers. You will have to log into Deer B's account before copying and pasting the SpellData.cgr file into the userdata folder (under Programs - Tale of Tales..., as explained earlier).
You can use Preferences.cgr in a similar way. This file helps when you have more than one deer. This is how I got it to work... I'm not sure if this is the easiest way. Anyway, the best way I can explain is with an analogy (again...)
Say you logged into Deer A the last time you visited the Forest. If you were to head over to Program Files - Tale of Tales..., the Preferences.cgr file contained in the userdata folder is Deer A's data. If you copy both the Preferences.cgr and SpellData.cgr files and paste them in a separate folder, you will have all the information the game needs to play Deer A. Now, say you log in as Deer B the next time, but forget to switch deer before you quit. Without even entering the game, if you saved Deer A's files, just copy and paste them both into the userdata folder. The next time you load the game, you will be logged in as Deer A and with the magic on the SpellData.cgr file.
Let me know if you need me to explain anything again or in a different way. I don't mind at all. I hope this helped! (: <3
JesusFreak3,
No problem, I have Vista too. You don't have to open any of the .cgr files. All you have to do is copy/paste them whenever you want to use them. I hope that answers your question.
Hm, I can think of three things... if this doesn't work, I'll try it myself to make sure I'm not forgetting a step.
Oh, and are you running TheEndlessForest as Administrator? I've heard this is practically necessary for players using Vista. (I have to run the game this way too). If not, I'll explain how to set it. I'm not sure if it makes a difference with spelldata, but you never know with Vista... xD
1. Did you rename Mother's Day Set back to SpellData.cgr? I think the spelling has to be exact too.
2. Did you use the same account both times?
3. How are you logging off the game? If you log into your account each time you play, it resets the SpellData.cgr file. There are two ways to log out of the game to make spelldata work (that I know of):
A. Open the menu and click Quit.
B. If you are playing in the Windowed Mode, "X" out of the game by clicking the red "X" at the top right corner of the game window. [This also works if you lose your set in the Pond - immediately "X" out of the game, and when you log back in, you'll have your magic back.]
Ah, okay!
For multiple accounts:
You can log out if you want, but there's an easier way. But it requires using the Preferences.cgr file. Here's how to use the Preferences.cgr file:
1. Log into the game as one of your deer. ***If you remember the last deer you were logged in as, just go to the userdata folder and copy/paste the Preferences.cgr file to another location. Again, I suggest making a folder, this time naming it after your deer.
2. When you're ready to play, copy/paste both the Preferences.cgr file and the SpellData.cgr file back into the userdata folder. When you load the game, you will be automatically logged into the game.
To use multiple deer, follow those same steps twice, creating a separate folder for each of your deer. I hope that makes sense. Spelldata is hard to explain, but rather easy to use. XD Let me know if you need me to reword any of that.
Which file were you trying to rename, the SpellData.cgr or Preferences.cgr? The (2) just means the name you were trying to rename it (SpellData) is taken within the folder. You'll have to use a different name.
Is that in the original userdata file (under Program Files - Tale of Tales..., etc)? If so, you can just delete one of them.
But if it's in the folder you created, you can drag/drop one to a new folder and rename it there. Folders won't let you have two files with the same name... that's why it added the (2) at the end there. It should be the same data though.
Are you trying to copy/paste the SpellData.cgr back to the userdata folder?
If so, then yeah, you'll want to delete "SpellData" and then rename the "SpellData (2)" (the Mothers Day Set) to "SpellData."
To avoid this in the future, when you copy/paste back into the userdata folder, click "Yes" on any messages that pop up. A message should come up like, "Do you want to replace the existing file?"
copy/paste Preferences.cgr and SpellData.cgr into Deer B's folder. Leave Deer A's the same.
To put lets say Mother's Day Set in, copy/paste out of Deer A's Spell folder into Deer A's userdata folder. Delete original SpellData.cgr and rename Mother's Day Set SpellData.
Yep, that sounds correct, but it almost sounds like you have too many steps... It will usually take about four:
1. Find the new folder you created for your deer
2. Copy both the Preferences.cgr and SpellData.cgr file.
3. Go to Program Files - Tale of Tales - The Endless Forest 3 - userdata and paste. Click "yes" to any messages. Rename the files if necessary.
4. Start the game
I have an image to help illustrate what I meant in my last post.
This represents two folders for two different deer.
The part circled in red is what you have to copy/paste back into the userdata folder. You would do the same for Deer B.
As long as you have separate folders, you don't have to change the names, as illustrated.
Keep in mind, though, that while the SpellData.cgr (Mothersdayset.cgr) files are the same, the Preferences.cgr should be from two different accounts. You obtained Deer A's after logging into the game as Deer A, exiting the game, and copying the Preferences.cgr file to Deer A's folder.

So basically, the spell
Copy and paste into a different folder (renamed) then copy back into userdata file to use.
Correct?

Ok. I copied the spell
When I got on I took one of my pelts off and one of my masks.
I logged off, copied Mothers day set into userdata file and logged back on.
It didn't work.

I didn't rename it back. I
I don't log out, I click the X button.
To use multi-accounts should I log out?

Which file were you trying
You could rename them like this:
Folder #1 = "Deer A's set"
SpellData.cgr = Mothersdayset.cgr
Preferences.cgr = DeerA.cgr
Folder #2 = "Deer B's set"
SpellData.cgr = Mothersdayset.cgr
Preferences.cgr = DeerB.cgr
Well the files came up like
Preferences
SpellData
SpellData (2)
Number two was Mothers Day Set
Sorry my brain isn't thinking...

not (2)
and then rename (2) back to SpellData?
I'm so slow... sometimes

Nah, you can just delete
Or, you can create a second folder and drag/drop SpellData (2) to there. I'm assuming you're trying to create two sets of SpellData for two deer.
sorry but this isn't
(2) is the Mothers Day Set. That's the one I'm trying to use. Why would I delete it?

Yep, that sounds correct,
1. Find the new folder you created for your deer
2. Copy both the Preferences.cgr and SpellData.cgr file.
