I've been playing around as a fawn, it's all great fun and very relaxing. I absolutely love giving people different masks and then laughing about the ridiculousness of it all.
So next up comes my "noob" questions.
Brace yourselves, these are going to be extremely noobish:
.
.
1. I'm wondering, is there actually anything to do?
2.I noticed some people have "mates," what is that?
3. Is there anyway to skip the fawn stage? I'm tired of losing pelts and masks.
4. What's with the stump triangle by the large rocks?
5. What is this specific website for? Just diaries and art or what?
7. Do people just create deersonas or can you actually make deer look like that?
If anyone can answer these, it'd be much appreciated. I'm still quite wary about everything!
1. I'm wondering, is there
Just running around and exploring is enough. Or casting spells with others and hanging out. This game isn't so much a game as it is a place to relax. =]
2.I noticed some people have "mates," what is that?
The equivalent of a husband or wife you could say.
3. Is there anyway to skip the fawn stage? I'm tired of losing pelts and masks.
Sorry, there isn't.
4. What's with the stump triangle by the large rocks?
We call that the Deermuda Triangle. There are rumors it holds great power and isn't to be messed with.. >> But don't worry; it's just for fun.
5. What is this specific website for? Just diaries and art or what?
For the most-part, yes. =] But it's a great way to get to know others you've played with in the Forest.
7. Do people just create deersonas or can you actually make deer look like that?
I'm not sure I understand this question. O.o Can you rephrase it?
EDIT: I just noticed there's no 6th question. |D;

7. some people may not like
1. I'm wondering, is there
Yes, and no. There are no goals, so you have to make up everything as you go along.
2.I noticed some people have "mates," what is that?
Some people get their deer into couples. Some of the community think it's a great idea and some, well, I wouldn't say hate, but... very strongly dislike this use of the game.
3. Is there anyway to skip the fawn stage? I'm tired of losing pelts and masks.
Sorry, there really isn't. Sometimes you get lucky and "the Twin Gods will turn that off" during special times. And this might just happen soon, because the release of The Path is coming up!
4. What's with the stump triangle by the large rocks?
Are you referring to the trio of round rocks that shows up on the map, or the "Deermunda Triangle" that some players made up?
5. What is this specific website for? Just diaries and art or what?
It's an extension of the forums basically.
Some people like the forums better and some like the community site better. Personally I prefer the forums but like some of the aspects of the community site, like the ability to keep a list of blogs.
7. Do people just create deersonas or can you actually make deer look like that?
Hmm, you mean human versions of deer characters? The deer are always just deer in-game but many folks have draw or made up characters based off of their deer.
And those are all pretty important and non-noobish questions there. It's good to be informed!

Here are my answers: 1. I'm
1. I'm wondering, is there actually anything to do?
Yes. Absolutely. But are their goals written into the program, "accomplishments," ect? No.
2.I noticed some people have "mates," what is that?
Some people play their deer less as avatars and more as Roleplay Characters. Those characters sometimes, in the course of being played, find a special connection with another deer, hopefully for their sake another character-deer, and the players and deer agree that the two deer's relationship is special, and recognize it as such. This is a roleplay decision only, in the best of cases.
3. Is there anyway to skip the fawn stage? I'm tired of losing pelts and masks.
No. I think I may have seen your fawn around, though...
4. What's with the stump triangle by the large rocks?
It's the Deermuda, causer of all sorts of forest trouble -- at least in theory. Many times people have tried to explore the deermuda, and unravel its mysteries, but with varying levels of success.
5. What is this specific website for? Just diaries and art or what?
It's mostly diaries and art, with updates, random things, and dragon eggs thrown in.
6. Do people just create deersonas or can you actually make deer look like that?
....I'm with everyone else: what do you mean?

Everybody has already
Some people make deer who wear certain sets of antlers, pelts, and masks...but they also add things to their deer outside of the forest to make them more interesting or unique. My 'deersona' has a longer tail than a normal deer, but in the forest there is no way of showing that. The only way to change the way your deer looks in the actual forest is by changing their masks, antlers, or pelts...so far everyone starts with the same deer base (same size, same shape, same breed)
