Catching Fire
Gabriel's mane, eyes, and blue markings will turn into fire and smoke upon any intense emotional disturbance. This can also be done by choice, but it never exceeds his natural fire's color - blue. Some of the more bright blue markings, those resembling lightning, will let off slight electrical charges as well; however this is rarely noticeable and has little effect when compared to the fire he emits. The color of the fire can change and depends on the intensity of the emotion being experienced. It's not unusual to see him with blue flames while fighting.
Although initially he could not, has since achieved control of his flames through extensive training and experimentation done often by himself. As his fire is linked to his emotions, control of his fire is control of emotions. Thus, when he is emotionally unstable, his fire is too; an explosive, unpredictable, and lethal tool.
In the event he should die, his body would burn away and leave only ash. This would happen within three hours of his death. Should his body be scavenged, those parts eaten would later turn to ash in the stomach of the scavenger. There has been only one exception to this, which is when he died unexpected from an unknown virus in his home.
These flames were not activated (or in other words, a part of his life) until his entrance into the forest. They had previously been dormant.
Blue flames are the most common and are a result of intense negative emotions. Anger, jealousy, rage. Anything that could be perceived as negative. However, blue flames may also rise in the event of a fight. So, he may not be upset or angry, but in the event of a fight, he can still catch fire. These flames are least likely to hurt anyone that he deeply cares for and they will not cause him significant damage; however he will be much warmer to the touch.
Red flames are the least common and are a result of intense positive emotions. Love, bliss, happiness. Anything that could be considered positive. Sometimes, these flames may also appear a dark purple, but only briefly. That is an even rarer occurrence. These flames will hurt no one. Not himself, not his loved ones, not even those he dislikes. Though being in the vicinity of someone he dislikes/hates will likely result in the flames diminishing.
Black flames. They are a result of immense anguish, anger, or pain. A black smoke will also be evidence with every breath he takes. These flames treat Gabriel like he is fuel. They'll begin to burn his insides to ash before consuming him entirely, and so left untreated these flames can be deadly not only to anyone around him, but to himself. Extended exposure has the capacity to melt metal, but Gabriel still seems to retain a slight resistance to them, even as they burn him alive. If he is not already on fire (and so is not changing colors), the fire starts up slow; but in the case of changing and erratic emotions causing a switch between his fire's colors, he will 'pop' like a nuke gone off, the fire will explode outward.
Tattoos were created during an episode he had while at North's hospital. As a human, his emotions were intense enough that his markings of the forest burned through him, creating a permanent tattoo on his back, arms, and legs. These will occasionally glow and have the potential to catch fire, just as he does in the forest.
The flames he can emit each smell differently. The blue fire (most common when engaged in fights) is arguably the least bad of the scents Gabriel gives off when he's engaged. The cinnamon and apricot become stronger, but he also begins to give off faint traces of is best described as vinegar and, faintly, burning rubber. To someone with a sensitive nose, this mix may be downright vile. It won't take a sensitive nose to pick up on the black flames. While catching fire to black is an incredibly rare occurrence, it does happen; and the smell brought with it does not leave anything desired. Burning leather and tar, with a hint of kerosene. As for red flames, the scent is his usual. Merely intensified with a hint of roses.
After any incident in which Gabriel catches fire, it'll take about a day to a day and a half for his usual scent to return. This process can be sped up by cleaning off or returning to his home.
Time Travel
Gabriel is a well aged time traveler, but with a catch. He can only travel back in time (with the exception of traveling from history back to the origins point - or in other words, the point in which he can't go forward). The reason he can't travel into the future is because the future is still being defined by the origin point's actions. There is still room for change. Therefor with how everything can change in a moment, going to a set time in the future is simply impossible. However, he can travel back in time as history has already been defined and can not be changed. Certain points in history risk being altered more should he interact with them - which is why he can't. The closer he gets to a certain time in history, the more translucent he becomes with the surroundings, being unable to interact or be interacted with. So Gabriel can experience history up close and in person, but he can't interact with the scene and cause changes to the future; which, as said before, has already been defined in history at that point.
Still with me, but confused? Think of it like this. Gabriel stands in a modern day room on March 30th, 2015. This is the origin point. There has been no March 31st, 2015 yet. There has been no 2016, 2017, or 2018 yet. The future has yet to be revealed by the origins - today's - actions; because actions and decisions are ever-changing. Therefor the future could change at a moment's notice. Making visiting the future impossible. However, March 30th, 2010 has already happened. The actions of March 30th, 2010 have lead into March 30th, 2015. The actions and decisions before March 30th, 2010 have made March 30th, 2010 what it was. This is why Gabriel can travel to this date in time. Now say nothing significant happened March 30th, 2010. No matter what Gabriel does, or where he does it on March 30th, 2010, it will ever effect any date after March 30th, 2010. So he is free to interact and be interacted with on that date in history.
Now say something significant did happen on March 30th, 2010. Such as the start of a war, the end of a war, any major disaster. Gabriel knows about this - or maybe he doesn't, but for this example let's say he knows - and wants to stop the disaster from killing thousands. Try as he might, he can't, because the closer he gets to the people or objects involved in the incident, the more he begins to fade; becoming a ghost of the future. This is so that he can't dramatically change the future for himself or for others - because it is a defined event, it has already happened and has been documented in history books, in newspapers, etc. It can't be changed.
The only thing that can be changed is the future from the origins point. No one knows how it'll be changed, but actions have consequences and so the future will come one way or another.
