History:

This life is not Ryuki`s first- in fact, she has lived two past lives before. Her first life was that of a human. Raised by a strict family, she seemed like any other girl- though two things set her apart. She was always a small child, skinny, but usually the shortest in her class. As a result of this, she was teased and bullied by many of her peers during her school years. However, what the bullies did not realize was that the girl had severe anger issues- she`d had a slight episode when she was younger, but had calmed down since then. However, the abuse, combined with her fiery personality and bitterness, did not help at all. Soon, her anger issues had escalated into violent episodes where she would fling things around her room, screaming and cursing. This worried her family, who thought about sending her to a mental institute. The boiling point came one day at lunch when the usual group of bullies came over to harass her. In just a moment, the ringleader was on the ground, bleeding severly from his nose. The 14 year old girl was suspended from school.

At this point, her parents had had enough of her daughter`s violent behavior. Believing that she was stricken with more than just anger issues, Ryuki was sent off to a mental institution in order to "correct" her. There, she faced a new type of abuse- having to live with almost no contact with the outside world, enduring tests and embarrassment. The only thing that calmed her down was painting- she would often keep to herself, quietly painting in her cell. Soon, the cell walls werr adorned with various paintings. Her favorite thing to draw in particular were deer- her favorite animal.

During an "evaluation" the girl became fed-up with the way she was being questioned and started yelling, raging about how unfair this all was and nearly attacking the person evaluating her. She was sedated soon after.

The doctors expected her to wake up after a few hours, but she did not. The events of her life had taken its toll on her, and she had lost the will to carry on. The girl died at age 15, alone in her cell.

However, Ryuki`s strange life had not ended; merely, one ended and another began. As soon as she died in her human life, a doe gave birth to a fawn in a forest nearby. She was reborn into the body of her favorite animal.

From the start, Ryuki`s new life was kinder to her than her first one. However, she was still quite small, and still possessed anger issues. Although the herd worried about her size, she was not picked on too much. Ryuki did not remember too much of her previous life, though she would occasionally get nightmares. She was, however, extremely sensitive about her size.

As she grew older, like many other deer, Ryuki was expected to find a mate within her herd. Not many stag striked her fancy- they were a bit arrogant, and some had picked on her during fawnhood. However, there was one stag that was different- he was kind and loyal, and looked past her rather small size. The two soon became mates.

For a while, Ryuki lived contently with her herd and her mate. However, a new danger was looming over her herd- a pack of wolves lived nearby, and the deer were perfect prey. Daily life soon became stressful as the deer waited nervously for the wolves to strike. Does were not allowed to forage for food without at least one stag to guard them, and fawns were not allowed to leave at all. The herd was constantly on the move, never staying in one place for long.

One particular day, Ryuki and her mate were searching for food in the forest. One moment, the forest was peaceful. Then, Ryuki`s mate spotted movement in the bushes nearby. Before she could even blink, all hell broke loose. The two deer were pitted in a fight for their lives against three wolves. Though small, Ryuki just barely managed to hold her own against the hungry wolves, and her mate was even able to kill one. The other two wolves, seeing this, ran off with their tails between their legs. However, the victory had come at a terrible price- Ryuki`s mate had been fatally bitten on the neck during the fight. Ryuki stayed with him all night, refusing to leave his side even when he pleaded for her to return to the herd. The next day, the herd found Ryuki curled around her dead mate.

The death of her beloved was nearly too much for Ryuki to handle. She refused to leave his body, even after he had started to rot. It was not until he was just a skeleton that Ryuki finally accepted his death; however, before leaving with the herd, she retrieved his skull from his body and started to wear it in honor of him. The herd was more than a bit disturbed by this, but relieved that she was finally willing to move on.

The herd traveled on, looking for a safe place to stay. However, the two wolves from before wanted revenge for their packmates death, who Ryuki`s mate had killed. They launched an attack just before dawn, taking the herd by surprise. During the attack, a fawn within the herd panicked and was separated from its mother. The wolves saw this as an easy target.

Ryuki, however, spotted the wolves stalking toward the fawn. Although she wasn`t the largest nor strongest deer around, rage boiled in her veins as she recognized the wolves that had killed her mate. With the skull of her beloved upon her head, she felt ready to take on anything.

However, fate is a tricky thing. Ryuki, with the help of a few other stags, managed to drive the wolves away. But it would be revealed that Ryuki had received a severe neck wound- just like the one her mate had. The small doe died the same way her mate had, and is it unknown what became of her herd.

Again, however, she was once again thrust into a new life: Ryuki was reborn once again as a doe, but this time within the realm known as The Endless Forest. She awoke, still with the skull of her mate on her head. Although mostly ignorant to her past lives, she does remember him, and still dreams of him often.
