The sound of drops of water hitting the ground from fresh leaves echoes through the expanse of forest, heralding the coming of spring. Birdsong tugs the concentration of the ear, plucking many creatures from slumber this morning as a hypnotist plucks a patient from their reverie. The warm rays of the sun lull the awoken in to a sense of peace in this green and beautiful world that the Gods have painted fresh and new; the fevers of spring are upon the residents.
New life, from small sprouts to budding leaves, flowers to peeping chicks and things of all variety. New life as tiny babies emerge in to the sun with their mothers from long winter's slumbers, squirrellings scampering over branches and baby rabbits darting about every which-way. Gentle breezes that remind the world spring has only just begun sweep the rest of the lazy hibernators from their dens with promise of fresh and new possibility.
And this is where our story begins...
***
Among the gentle spring blueberry flowers were curled a mother and child; a doe and fawn. The doe gently and quietly licked her fawn clean with long, warm strokes of her tongue. A small sound of shuddering breath from the babe transformed in to a stretching yawn, accompanied by scrunched eyes and shivers. The doe could not help but chuckle as her little one awoke in such an odd fashion.
"You, Jupiter, will be a beautiful and unique deer- if not just as odd to see as a blueberry flower." The cool voice of the doe was like honey to the fawn's large ears, enticing a sigh from its plump and child-like lips.
"I do believe it is time for you to wake up and enjoy the spring, my baby." Mother chided, causing the baby to stubbornly burrow under her fur. That simply would not do, the mother thought, and rose to step away.
"Now Jupiter, we cannot sleep forever. Your cycle has only just begun, girl child, and I will see to it that it keeps going. Now get up, open those eyes, and follow me. I have magic to show you." The doe stomped her foot decisively, a signal that she would not take no for an answer.
The fawn, understanding after only a week of life, opens her eyes. Deep pools emerge from behind the baby's thin lids and long lashes, slick and shining domes protecting the vital parts beneath. Gorgeous green, much like the spring itself, rims the mahogany ovals inside. Promptly, the fawn shuts her hypnotic eyes before struggling with gangling legs. With the need for locomotion overbearing, the fawn finally finds her footing. Tail raised proudly, she smiles at her mother. "Mama, What magic?" Her light child-like voice floats on the air. Mama simply replies by turning around and flicking her tail, a sign to follow.
"The Endless Forest, Jupiter, our Greenspace and your home."
Story 2: Can you hear me? As
The fawn's voice was so small it seemed like nobody could hear her. She would try to call out to others, but nobody seemed to hear her voice. It was a normal voice, wasn't it? Her mother could hear her. She must have a normal voice. Again and again though, nobody could hear poor Jupiter. Nobody would call back, anyway.
The fawn even tried praying to the Gods for help. The little fawn was frustrated because they couldn't seem to hear her either.
"You're just stone. I don't know why they even like you anyway." The fawn grumbled, tapping the stone with her hoof aggressively. Jupiter then began to cry.
Why couldn't anyone hear her? She would yell with all of her might, but nobody heard her.
Why?
