She got no reply.
Only the unnerving silence.
Suddenlly some leaves rattled behind her, some way away and another movement twisted in the corner of her eye.
There was a shape in the darkness.
Ears were curved forward, as if trying to catch some kind of answer. Nothing. Her body did not cease its shaking, more movement making her head jerk in its direction. This time, she saw something. Shrinking back against the tree trunk behind her, she kept still, her eyes still on the outline of whatever it was watching her. Maybe it'd go away if she stayed silent.
The figure remained motionless. At least it seemed so. A faint static started humming in the fawn's ears and the more she stared, the louder it became.
The darkness shifted.
The wind blew cold around her, rustling leaves, upsetting grass and howling in the naked branches of the trees.
Before, the forest had been too quiet.
Now sound was flooding her ears.
It wasn't moving, but that seemed to disturb the fawn further. And when the sound started, she lowered herself against the ground further, the dirt cold against her stomach. The harsh noise buzzed in her ears, and flattening them against her head did nothing to dull the sound. The child yelled again, despite not wanting to be seen: "Who are you?!" She shouted louder than she needed to, fighting to be heard above the noises, some of which only she could hear.
The figure persisted in its lack of motion. Although as the fawn blinked, the noise intensified and the figure seemed to have moved a little closer. It kept staring at her from afar, that dreadful noise following its every move.
She could've sworn that this thing - this, whatever it was - wasn't standing so close before her eyes had shut. Another blink, and it was closer; the sound had intensified, drowning out the frantic thudding of her heart. Any attempt at running would be useless now, the child's legs feeling heavy and almost glued to the spot. One more blink, and it was getting closer still.
At her next blink, the creature had moved closer yet. Close enough to make out its face.
Or so it would be, had it had a face.
There was only a white flatness in place of features, an orb mimicking the moon's sparse glow. But she could feel it staring at her.
--edit--
If it is alright with Holywater, of course, Jinxyness.
Eyes widened. Perhaps that'd stop the blinking - no, in fact, it worsened it, the wind drying out her eyes and forcing her to squeeze them shut. Upon looking up again, she could see whatever it was, see its face, or complete lack thereof. It was staring at her, but where were its eyes? Another few blinks and it had moved forward again, its 'eyes' locked on her.
The cub looked on in silence. As the Slenderman approached his friend, the rush of emotion was inexorably the trigger that led him to move closer. It was a new feeling, this coldness in the pit of his stomach. He was still quite young but growing, and as the youngster stood resolutely before the stranger, slender obsidian claws like crescent moons dug into the dirt.
The imposing creature stared the cub down.
Crowds. It did not like crowds.
The static increased in the ears of the two young ones and shadowy tendrils had suddenly extended from the creature's back and neck. Interference.
The sudden appearance of the cub from yesterday made the child raise herself up a little. How long had he been standing there? The crackling in her ears grew louder; her ears twitched, pressing down against her skull instinctively, despite knowing this would do no good in drowning out the noise. What looked like pairs of thin, long arms stretched out from behind the creature, and the girl's eyes darted towards her friend. Still, she didn't move.
Stood protectively by his friend, tail lashing from side to side. The noise made him press his ears flat against his head. Artemis' eyes narrowed, and a defensive hiss escaped. He crouched slightly as his will was put to the test, bold yellow gaze unflinching.
The creature didn't move an inch. The tendrils kept twisting in the darkness but its body stayed stock-still. The penetrating stare from beyond the faceless façade met that of Artemis and a power struggle commenced. They were both held in place.
A cold chill ran through the body of the small cub, as if dead hands were gripping his insides.
Not knowing what to do, the child simply kept herself still, watching the creature for any signs of movement. Nothing. Nothing apart from the slow coiling of each tendril, the dark 'limbs' almost invisible against the shadows. Neither of the two in front of her seemed to be moving; they both stared at each other, as if involved in some kind of deep, telepathic conversation. The girl raised a foreleg, and took a shaky, tentative step forward.
A chill caressed his body, forcing a flinch. He snarled resentfully, but even he had to admit that the battle was lost. However, unconsciously his mind filed away the memory of the Slenderman; this wasn't the end. Still not speaking, he fixed his golden gaze on the other male, asking a silent question. What do you want with her?
As the question was asked, the static ceased to rustle in their ears for an unnerving moment.
The Slenderman beheld the two, his head slowly tilting to one side. W?an?t ?to p?l?ay? A voice suddenly echoing in their minds, that horrible, blank face instantaneously turning to the fawn in an uncanny jerk, nailing her to the spot.
The static drilled into their ears once again.
The girl somehow preferred the static screeching in her ears over the unsettling silence.
It spoke. Or, at least, the child heard its voice. Vocal cords seized up, and she had to resort to shaking her head frantically, the movement intensifying as it fixed its gaze upon her again, the noise starting up once more. Any attempt to approach either of the two in front of her was halted by the stranger's stare. She remained with a leg raised, other three limbs trembling, barely supporting her frame now.
He backed up so that he was closer to the fawn, his stance clearly protective. The voice resounded in his ears and made him cringe, shaking his own head like the female had. No. He didn't know what to do now, clearly she was terrified, and he was as scared as she, but just much better at hiding it.
The Slenderman stared at the two, its attention shifting from one to the other. The could feel the stare as it lingered on their bodies, boring into their souls. No?t ?a??fr?ai?d.?? It whispered intrusively into their minds.
It stretched out a tendril towards them.
Slowly.
And ominously.
Afraid? An understatement.
The hoof slowly lowered, and she raised herself up, the bones in her shoulders popping from being crouched down much too long. At the first sign of one of the tendrils snaking towards the two, the child almost recoiled. Then, for reasons unknown to even her - maybe she didn't want a new friend getting hurt because of her, maybe it was just reckless impulse - she darted forward, positioning herself between the creature and the cub. She immediately regretted her decision, the shadowy limb growing closer and closer towards her by the second.
He hadn't expected the movement, but had to remedy it immediately as the tentacle drew closer. Artemis ducked around from the side and lashed out desperately with claws extended, a hiss drawing his lips back over pink gums and white, needle-like teeth.
The static increased at his attack for a moment, the tendril drawing back.
Did the creature feel fear? Pain?
Another stare down commenced for a moment.
It felt as if it was scolding Artemis.
A cold wind blew past the three and as the leaves flew by their vision, suddenly the two young ones were surrounded by the shadowy tendrils.
The static increased to a painful degree.

She watched as he slipped 'round her, slashing at the tendril, then focused her attention on the creature as it stopped and eyed the cub. "Idiot," she hissed. The first thing she'd managed to force out of her throat for a while now.
Then she couldn't see anything but that thing in front of her, its featureless face leering down at the two as its extra limbs coiled around them both. The shrieking noise steadily rose in volume, almost threatening to rupture her ear drum.
Running would do no good now.
Now he knew what he had to do. Ego deflated, he lost the next struggle without a doubt, and much faster than the first. "Please....don't hurt her," he pleaded, "Take me, not her."
Head drooped in defeat, expression scrunched up painfully as the crackling pierced his ears. "I'm sorry."
The lashing limbs all around them faltered.
The static slowly ebbed out into a quiet murmur.
Something touched the both of them lightly. ?B??e c?a?lm?. The voice was nothing but a whisper in their minds. The tendrils touching them cold but gentle.
It was like a sugar coated spider web for two flies.
She could just about hear the cub's yelping above the noise before it began to fade, the noise lowering into something akin to what she had heard during the first few moments of her encounter with the stranger.
Her head throbbed painfully, ears still ringing. More words from the creature - and now, it was touching her.
The girl wanted to wriggle away from the tendrils, from its touch, but... on the other hand, she didn't want to, the gentle movements of its limb somehow soothing, calming her racing heart.
He shivered, his brows furrowing and his head hurting dreadfully from the static. He didn't really want to relax, but the tentacle was almost...soothing. Even as a spark of indigence at the Slenderman for touching her made him flinch.
The amount of tendrils gradually decreased around the two as the creature touched them.
It felt like frozen smoke or a fog so dense it had become sentient.
The static slowly died out.
It stared down at them yet again, although it felt more benign this time around.
Like a cat fondly regarding its new toys.
The child relaxed, feeling less unnerved at the creature's gaze now. Though she wasn't entirely comfortable with its presence, she still could not resist the urge to lean into its touch, welcoming the cool tendril's slow movements.

Holywater & Jinxyness: A quiet, low chuckle rattled along with the leaves. The tendrils grew slighter in number as the two calmed down. As they submitted. The previous static disappeared completely, leaving only silence, cold and that stare.
