Cydae shied away from the eyeless stare, feeling slightly uncomfortable for some reason. Determined not to be lesser, the tiny female stared right back. Then what are you laughing at?
Her wish was unexpectedly granted when the presence of Slender suddenly vanished from in front of her.
The cold night air rustled in the trees and a branch graced Cydae's side.
And then another. And another.
A giggle sounded from behind.
She shrieked, a piercing note, as he disappeared, the branches ran across her sides, and the wind picked up. When something chuckled behind her, she turned around and ran at the source of the sound, frightened. Okay, I'm sorry! I shouldn't have asked! Just come back and make the falling things go away!
Cydae yelled, shaking her head in frustration as she tried to find what seemed to be the only safe thing in the area.
The giggle, lower and more ominous now, returned as she shrieked in terror. The objects brushing against her slowly ceased their objective, but only as one grabbed her and forced her chin and face gradually upwards. They were not branches. They were his shadowy tendrils. And now he was standing right in front of her, his blank non-face glowing in the pale moonlight. His touch was penetratingly cold, as was his body which the unfortunate deer had run head-first into. It was like touching a frozen corpse covered in tar.
Welcome back! =D It's sure been a while. How have you been?
~~~~~
Cydae shivered, whether from nervousness or coldness remains unknown, but her tiny body jittered like a clockwork toy. She made quiet noises akin to that of a whimpering dog, her eyes seeing the sharp glare that radiated off his 'face' from the moonlight. The small doe gulped, a large task with her head pointed upwards so sharply.
Been sick. Nasty business, although luckily, medical attention from a professional was not necessary. Rather ironic, considering my persona. I apologize for my absence ♥
---
The tall creature slowly bent down towards her, that menacing giggle emanating from deep within his throat, a looming sound, like thunder in the distance. His tendrils slowly stopped gracing against her body, although he still kept her in place, just glaring sighlessly down at her...
A tingling sensation ran through her body, like chills down her spine, as he hungrily sapped some of her precious energy away from her. He was hungry. And she was like a juicebox to him. But he would not kill her... Why kill a meal that willingly comes to you time and time again?
Eek, being sick. Hate, hate, hate it. Glad to see you're well enough to roleplay. :3
~~~~~
The doe staggered as the energy was sucked from her like water. She didn't realize that the feeling was her lifeforce being drained away. This is like... that time at the ruins, when it was raining. Cydae thought to herself, forcing her knees to lock so she could continue to stand up. She didn't like how he giggled, it was always... nutty sounding. It didn't seem to be the happy giggles you got after playing with your pals, this one was... it was frightening.
And it only continued as her thoughts as well as her energy flowed into him. He could taste her fear, it was the spice which gave his meal that special zest. But he had to stop soon. Stop or leave the doe dead. With a disgruntled flick of an ear, he pulled away, leaving her standing on her own on the ground.
He beheld her silently, enigmatically as the world returned to her and she regained control of herself. She was such an easy meal for him.
Ah yes. I love Halloween. Though the scenery is more peaceful than frightening out here. Too many orange leaves, not enough ghouls. Well, you can never have enough orange leaves.
A final exam? Good on you! I imagine it was quite difficult. I've never been real good at exams. Little benchmarks tests are alright. But big exams? Nope.
Undoubtedly. Especially outside of the states where the holiday is not celebrated with as much vigour.
Indeed, it was difficult. A laborious experience, having to write 20 pages worth of concentrated academic terminology. Although I do believe it was worth the B.
Not gonna lie. I snorted my milk and fell into a giggle fit. Dx
While you're up and awake, feel like a little roleplay? Perhaps he and Cydae have a small adventure. Something along the lines of checking the Old Oak for monsters or some sort of thing akin to that?
The petite, tan doe trotted around the forest, following familiar paths and treading old dirt. She felt this night was especially beautiful. There were so many giant candles around! The ones that lined the bridge were her favorite, though the doe didn't like being on the smooth rocks that were slick with condensation. Cydae shook her head to disperse her thoughts and ruffle her red feathers, remembering that the ruins were absolutely covered in the flickering little buggers. With a new spring in her step, she bounded forward, leaping over logs and tripping over large stones on her way to the ruins.
Cydae vaguely wondered if 'Talley' was around. He had enjoyed the night... and the ruins was where she first found him. Perhaps he'd be around again. She smiled inwardly, flicking her tail side to side as she asked herself if the slender stag had some unknown candle allergy and was curled up reading something with a cup of hot coffee beside him.
Bracing her hind legs, the doe lept from the top of a tomb-like grave to the broken column, dodging the candles that were placed there. Finding comfort in the warm radiating off their tiny, flickering, fires, the doe sat down on the stone, arranging herself around the candles. "Talley? Are you around here?"
She called out, unsure if she'd receive an answer or not.
A breeze blew through the naked branches of the surrounding trees, ribbed from leaves by the oncoming autumn. The tiny flames flickered, making the obscuring shadows dance and twist, very much like the tendrils of a certain individual.
The dead leaves blew by Cydae's hooves, the breeze bringing a bitter chill along with it.
The candles stopped flickering but the shadows kept twisting.
A giggle resonated from the cold walls.
I guess you are... Standing up, she jumped off the pillar she was standing on, landing roughly next to the wrought-iron bars of the cage. Shaking the dust off her thin coat, the female straightened up and glanced around, watching the blurry figures of the shadows do their dark dances even though the candles remained calm. "I was... ah, wondering if you wanted to go hunting with me. Dad says today is Halloween and that monsters are about."
The shadows shivered as if in excitement and in the blink of an eye, he'd emerged from the dark, blank face staring down at her and filling her ears with a distant, crackling static.
Another giggle sounded from him as he stepped closer in-between spaces, making it appear as if he hadn't moved an inch.
She twitched lightly, flicking her ears forward and back to dispel the static, though it didn't leave. Looking up at him, she squinted her eyes to see his figure better, even though there wasn't really a face to look at. Boy, she wished she could be a little like him, always laughing. He never seemed to be upset. "I'll take that as a 'Yes, I want to search for boogie-men' giggle? By the way, how'd you do that? Appear from nowhere, I mean."
Bending his face down to meet hers as if sniffing her, the Slenderman pointed his ears forward and took another step closer.
His presence seemed somehow less ominous than usually.
There also seemed to be more flies in the graveyard that night, along with a faint but putrid stench.
Cydae shifted her weight to her hind legs and rose up to meet him, giving the stag a light bop on the place where his nose would be. She giggled a little, a smile seen on her face. "Yes, hi. Do you want to hunt zombies?"
The doe wrinkled her snout a bit as the smell finally reached her. Yep, smelled like dead things.
Another soft giggle sounded from the creature as she touched his skin. It was smooth and cold to the touch, leaving her skin crawling where they had had contact. Hun?t, ?y?e?s.?
She performed a little jumpy dance, making a circle of skips. The doe hadn't been hunting in a while and this would be a good refresher. "What should we go after, Talley? Bats? Zombies? Normal folk?"
The Slenderman merely watched her every move with that eyeless stare, his ears rotating along with her movements, listening for everything she did.
The quiet static increased gradually to a deafening amount for a moment, overpowering what few words he communicated.
Only a distinct "s" and "o" sound could be made out before the rest of the word drowned in white noise.
She pressed her ears flat against her skull. What on earth was that crackling noise? When it finally died down, the doe perked her ears back up, though it was hesitant. "Ah... that's right. You don't eat normal food. You eat-"
She reared up on her hind legs and waved her front hooves ominously. "-Soouullllsss~!"
Cydae laughed and wagged her tail, grinning from ear to ear. The doe trotted out of the ruins a bit, looking around. Where would they get souls? Slenderman must have a way to get them if he had survived so far. She listened to the woods around them. As usual on holidays, the forest was run amok with activity. It shouldn't be too hard to find some stragglers.
The Slenderman chuckled at the sight. And for once it did not sound like he was simultaneously plotting the Twin Gods' demise.
He tilted his head slightly and stepped closer yet. I? ?hav?e ?h?unted? ?to?day?. ?No? ?n?ee?d?. For better or for worse, he was humouring the doe tonight.
"Oh... Okay. Then instead of souls we'll just go after regular things."
She looked back out to the forest, wondering what they could go after. Frog-giggin' was out, since the water could hurt him. Going after the bats? he was certainly tall enough to catch the critters. What about rabbits or foxes? going back to the tall stag, Cydae nudged his leg and beckoned him to follow. "Come on, let's go after rabbits. I know where a bunch of them hide out. They're down in the Blueberry Bowl, just south of here."
Another bout of prickly cold ran through Cydae's body as she touched the creature.
It was quick to follow her, its movements or optical illusions passing for such almost seeming eager.
The static increased momentarily before settling back into its prior form of simply distantly murmuring as the Slenderman followed the tiny, child-like doe to the Blue Bowl.
Cydae shivered, shaking off the cold feeling that had lingered on her skin. Once they came to the edge of the Blue Bowl, she shrunk down, crouching low so any potential prey couldn't see her. She looked around at the clusters of berry bushes until a familiar rock was seen poking through the brambles. Whispering, the doe said to Slenderman, "Their warren... is hidden right beside that rock. All we have to do... is get them out of their den... and then we can attack."
Glancing back at the rock, she added "But be careful... they're quick little things."
Standing silently behind Cydae, the Slenderman hardly had to do anything to conceal himself. To a rabbit, he looked like nothing but four thin trees.
He tilted his head as her voice floated up to him, directing that eyeless stare at the warren.
The static increased for a second and the sound of little claws and frightened voices rose from the ground.
Two pairs of rabbit ears appeared between the blueberries almost instantly.
Cydae grinned, her legs unable to keep still in her excitement. She loved chasing after the little fluffy critters. When their ears appeared, the dog-like doe crept silently through the bracken, slipping quietly under the bushes and making a minimal amount of noise. When close enough to see that the rabbits were frightened and touchy, Cydae lunged from her hiding spot, scattering the tiny creatures away from their hiding spot. It took a few moments of chase, but the doe was finally able to snag one in her jaws. Standing up, she clenched her teeth, killing the rabbit. Cydae trotted back happily to the Slenderman. Sitting beside his twig-like legs, she grinned, out of breath.
Cydae: All the while hunting was one of the tall creature's favourite past times as well. Only he stood by silently, in an instant blinking out of existence. The scream of a rabbit pierced the air. The tall legs reappeared at the spot they had vanished, a dead rabbit lying before them.
The face turned to look down at Cydae.
A giggle echoed from that hollow body.
Murder was indeed fun.
Mauvable: Tired of over exposure? This bandwagon is indeed getting a little crowded.
The creature had been making her way through the birch forest for a while now. Weaving between thin trunks and pushing through blades of grass even taller than the child itself was tiring enough without the mounting panic setting in, aided by the sun's slow crawl towards the horizon. How one could get themselves lost in a forest that looped endlessly - well, that was a mystery.
-
Forgive this horribleness.
The child was right to be frightened.
The darkness fell over the forest quickly as the sun set on the horizon. Shadows twisted and writhed in the nooks and crannies between the trees and rocks.
A faint rattling of leaves as the wind blew by. A sensation of being watched.
The frantic trotting slowed to a walk as shadows ahead of her lengthened, spreading out and engulfing the path ahead of her in darkness. A sharp gust of wind forced a shiver down the child's spine; body trembling, she backed up, a feeling of unease settling in the pit of her stomach. She was being watched, she knew it. But what could she do about it, apart from wait for whatever it was to reveal itself?
The forest was eerily quiet.
For a moment, not even the wind seemed to stir the dead leaves.
Not a sound penetrated the crisp air.
But the shadows grew increasingly darker and more ominous.
...
Something moved among the trees.
The silence was unsettling, to say the least, doing its job well and unnerving the young one further. It seemed as though not even the dead leaves beneath her hooves made a sound as she flattened them into the dirt; as if the entire forest was holding its breath in anticipation for... something.
Perhaps the little one would've run. But a movement in the corner of her eye made her head snap in one direction, and she forced two words out of her mouth, voice trembling. "Who's there?"
