The doe waited for a pretty good while before she was assured her leg hadn't broken out in a rash or anything. Then, she put a small portion in her mouth, letting it sit on her tongue. It was bitter, but after a few moments of that, she was pretty sure it wasn't poisonous. So, she swallowed.
Next, she bit another leaf off of the little plant and rubbed it on an open scratch she'd received yesterday. Silently, she laid her head down for a nap hoping to know if the plant was good for anything when she woke up.
Before she drifted off, she opened an eye to look over at the white doe. "Thanks for your company, Aria myst." she told her warmly.
She lifted herself up and bowed seeing as the doe was sleepy"Oh no thank you I am happy to have met you"she said sweetly."I should get back to my fawns. If you ever wish to speak again I am open for it"she said with a warm smile then trotted away slowly.

The Gray stag limped closer, albeit somewhat awkwardly. He had never actually talked to the doe, even though he had been in her company a couple of times. He took a breath, pausing a couple of heartbeats before clearing his throat, "Hey...err...Alani, right?"

The orange doe sat looking out into the deep waters of the pond, lost in her own thoughts. Her body was slumped which made it even more obvious how much weight she'd lost in the past weeks. Her spin jutted out oddly and her hip bones stuck out; her pelt had lost it's luster...
It all started with the loss of a dear friend, Halla, and now what she thought was the disappearance of another, Donovan, had only deepened her sadness. The latter hadn't been missing for long, but after seeing Halla disappear, she feared the worst.
An ear turned slowly towards someone who approached. She didn't even bother to turn her head until the stag spoke. Zash?
She turned towards the stag, recognizing him as Donovan's friend.. Her eyes widened with a small speck of hope. Maybe he knew where the stag was.
"Yes.... and you're... Zash?" her voice even sounded weak.
He nodded as he settled down beside her, the thought crossing his mind that maybe she didn't want company. He hoped she did. Things would get rather awkward if she didn't...
"Yes, I am." he replied once he had himself situated. He had made note of her condition upon approach, feeling himself grow especially concerned when he heard her speak. "Please forgive my prying...but are you alright?" he tipped his head to look at her.
She gave him a weak smile and nod in greeting. The smile looked fake and plastered on her face..
Quickly she let the facial facade fade; mulling over the question he asked
Alani wasn't one to lie, "No... I could be better... but also worse I suppose."
She let out a heavy sigh.. "You see, I lost a friend recently.." she started, watching the grey stag out of the corner of her eye. "And now, I'm afraid.. I'm afraid Don has faced the same fate as her and disappeared as well.."
Zash felt terror lance through his heart at that. He hadn't seen Don recently either. He had some silent hope that someone else had, though. Or that Don had been around when he was hurt, but most memories from that time were faded and gone. "I'm sure he's around..." he started quietly, sounding equally afraid as he felt. "Don never struck me as a guy to just disappear..." but how well did he know Don, really? Not well enough, apparently. Fear ceased his heart at the thought of Don getting hurt, attacked by something bigger than him, "I'm sure he's...he's okay." it wasn't like he could find him anyway. What if he wandered through some portal? He might still be hurt and near impossible to find.
More than anything, the doe wanted to believe what Zash said. She wanted to hope he was okay. The notion of hope seemed more inviting than the actually act of it though.. She'd been hoping for Halla for weeks now.. but she was gone. I hope you're right. The reply was on the edge of her tongue, and yet she couldn't force it out.. No. Hope was dead, or at the very least, mortally wounded.
"Maybe..." she settled with that one word. It was more simple than hope.
Maybe... He opened his mouth to offer some other form of comfort, but no words came to him. He was just as worried as she was. As much as he wanted to believe Don was alive and well, he was terrified he was wrong. The Gray's head lowered to stare at the ground, his ears drooping. He couldn't think of anything comforting...what sort of friend was he if he couldn't do that? Taking a breath, the stag lifted his head up to drape his neck across hers in a hug, it was the only thing he could think to do.
"I'm sure he's okay." he stated quietly, trying to desperately believe his own words.
Alani watched him with wide eyes.. She still had trouble believing he was here. "It has." she said, a little meekly.
For a moment, she averted her gaze, looking down at the ground.. In a quiet voice she made a confession she had yet to voice out loud. "I didn't think you were going to come back."
Alani gave a small smile at the embrace, returning it for that instance. She nodded slowly at his words and averted her gaze to the ground before his feet.
"Could you just do me a favor.. Tell me when you're leaving next time?"
A shadow crossed his gaze,but for his friends,and for the peace he enjoyed in this forest,he would come back as often as he could.Heh,the forest always seemed to humble him.
"I will,Alani...And I don't plan on leaving permanently now." He reassures her,settling down into the long grass.
Alani took a deep breath and looked up.. For a moment, she just studied him. Slowly, a small smile touched her muzzle. "Good. Very good." she said, creeping forward to plop down next to him. Tentatively, she leaned against him just slightly, putting her head over his back.
