the ocean calms my restless soul; Åsleif

The Wanderess

Sea foam

They say she was born
from the sea.
She was made from
no man
and she never
had a mother.

You can see it;
her hair is like waves
crashing on rocks;
her skin is like the wings
of a bird slicing
through the water;
she is more beautiful
than any maiden
adorning the bow;
and when she's angry
her eyes are like the sky
that melts into the the sea.

They say she was born
from the sea.
And she's just as lonely
and just as willing
to swallow the world.

A king attacked Lyngvi during night, the Wanderess managed to teleport any survivors far away before everyone got killed. Lyngvi got burned down as well as the Jarl's town.

-

Welcomed two new faces to Lyngvi: Kee and Nelle. The former expressed her wish to travel the world
and so the Wanderess shared her knowledge and warned her about certain regions. Nelle offered to help with the many orphans in Lyngvi. These children are either former slaves or unwanted offspring that were brought to Lyngvi since Åsleif is known for her motherly nature.

On another note, prepared Lyngvi for an upcoming battle and the woman is quite nervous for two reasons: lyngvi has never fought in a battle and it would be Idunn's first real fight. Gladly accepted Kolbrandr's offer to help.

-

The curse forces her to get pregnant every now and then so she would never forget the price she paid when she recieved her magical powers and so this time she got pregnant with her current husband. He only married her to secure his bloodline and his land so he was pleased that Åsleif fulfilled her duty as a wife. Though the Wanderess knew that she would never give birth to a healthy child if she got pregnant in her human form and lost her child shortly after. Although this wasn't the first child she's lost, she would never get used to it.

-

Grew tired of her duties in her husband's town and visited Heimkell.

-

Basically married a (npc) man she doesn't love to save her daughter. Spoke to Elliot, Aldnari and Heimkell.

-

Idunn's owner visited the mother and demanded his slave back but the Wanderess refused once again. After a lot of threats from the wealthy man, the woman was sure, the next time he would visit he either gets what he wants or his men would destroy Lyngvi. Talked to Elliot about this certain situation and came to the conclusion that she could never tell her daughter what was going on since she would definitely go back to her owner again. Instead they tried to think of a solution for this problem but Lyngvi was simply too weak and small. Finally when Elliot asked whether there really weren't any allies for Lyngvi, Åsleif remembered something and send a servant to another Jarl.

Already a few days later, the woman was on her way to his town and negotiated with him. Eventually the woman accepted to marry him if he managed to free Idunn and Lyngvi could stay under her control. Just a few hours later, her daughter was officially free and the Wanderess would marry the perfect example of a cruel and corrupt man.

Returned to her great hall and told Idunn and Åsa the great news though only told Åsa the true story when they were later alone.

Currently busy in Lyngvi with some bandits but managed to visit the forest for a good spa day. Immediately joined Rojan and ho boy.. pretty much had an amazing lazy day with her close friend.

-

During the early morning hours the woman walked through her home village and thought about what she could offer to possible trading partners. The few villagers that lived here were mostly simple fishermen or blacksmiths. Eventually the woman saddled one of the four frail horses and left Lyngvi to examine the nearby area. Since Elliot killed quite some bandits in the forest, the woman was able to enter a part of the forest where she has never been before. These huge sturdy trees were definitely suitable for building ships. Quite pleased with the find the Wanderess returned to the village and only needs a skilled shipbuilder now.

Grabbed some mead and wanted to share it with whoever she came across. Entered the endless forest through her portal at the den and found the bison in the nearby flower patch. Tossed the bottle towards him and enjoyed the quiet afternoon.

-

Noticed Idunn's growth spurt and thus congratulated her daughter for being an adult now (although she is still just a teenager). Eventually her daughter's owner contacted her and demanded his slave back, for now keeps that a secret from Idunn. Can't afford to free her daughter from slavery but also can't let her go back to the household she fled from. Knows that the owner is a wealthy man and could easily destroy the whole village if he wanted to.

Left Lyngvi and tried to focus on something else. Wandered around and gathered some herbs and flowers for a while. Stored them at her forest den and somehow ended up near the bison. Wanted to talk to him but couldn't ask a stranger for help, so just sat there and placed her head on the ground. Grateful that he didn't mind her quiet visit.

-

Woke up surrounded by waves and sea foam. Left the shore and walked to her great hall, dressed herself and was ready for her duties as a jarl. Since spring is around the corner, several wedding invitations arrived but the Wanderess burned all of them. Just thinking about a happy family hurt the mother, she knew that if she attended one of the weddings she would have missed Rhona more than ever. Stayed on her lonely throne even after the fire inside the hall faded.

Eventually returned from her human world and immediately searched for familiar faces or even family members in the forest. Came upon Sigurdr with Runa and watched them for a while from afar. Assumed certain things and retreated to the denser forest.

Settled down in a flower patch and pulled her legs close. The doe watched the nearby butterflies for a while and didn't even notice when she began to cry. Curled into a ball and sobbed loudly, the mother's heart felt heavy.

-

Returned to Red Hill and found Elliot's antlers there. Took them to Ydalir and hung them in the great hall after they got engraved with runes.

Once she entered the forest again, she settled down next to a large male (Sigurðr). Spoke with him for a while and it turned out he is a total sweetheart and a viking just like her. On the one hand delighted to meet yet another viking but also cautious because the woman has quite uncommon beliefs. Once again bothered by her own low self-esteem, actively has to force herself to meet new people. Often feels like she‘s not interesting in any way and her company would much rather be with someone else (IC thoughts). Eventually left the bison with a deep sigh, it was definitely not easy for the Wanderess to open up and meet new faces.

-

Busy with Elliot in Ydalir, slaying men and stuff. Returned with even more injuries on her back. Her white fur looks nearly black in certain areas.

-

Currently watches over her youngest daughter Idunn in the forest, while the Wanderess herself is wounded. Meanwhile in her human world tries to find new trading partners to keep her village Lyngvi alive. Heard that her firstborn child, Åsa will head out to hunt some monsters and the mother couldn't be prouder of her daughter.

-

Patiently waited for Idunn's return but the child never came back from Ýdalir. Knew that she has a good friend called Ingólfr in the forest and searched for him. Asked whether he knew where Idunn is but he didn't know either. Told him that she was sure something bad happened but she (asleif) promised Idunn not to help her directly during her self-proclaimed 'test'. Talked to the boy for a while until she sent him to Ýdalir. The Wanderess had to use black magic to sent the boy to Idunn's location and while she opened the portal, the scars on her back cut deeper into her flesh. Closed the portal soon after Ingólfr jumped in and immediately fainted and slept on the bloody ground.

Today woke up and couldn't see Ingólfr or Idunn anywhere so somehow desperately felt the need to see her other children. Although she wanted to give Rhona space, the mother just wanted to bury her face into the Swan's side for a while. Though instead saw the red doe with Wollunka and after a brief encounter, left the scene. Was on her way to Red Hill when she spotted Ismay at her den, told the other mother about the encounter and quickly left to rest on Red Hill.

Started to talk to Virgil and explained what has happened and then couldn't stop and told him her sorrows, her needs and worries. Though no answer could be heard, Red Hill was empty.
The Wanderess longed for more biological offspring, the only constant positive force in her life was her biological daughter, Åsa. The young girl who grew into a fine woman and stood by her side during her darkest hours. Also fears that such a small family can't hold even a small village alone.

-

Found her daughter Idunn in the forest and refused to let go of her for several minutes. Asked where she is so she (Asleif) could save her but her daughter refused to say anything. Idunn believes that the gods are testing her and eventually the mother had to accept that. Not really fond of the idea but always accepted the freedom of her children. Talked for hours and appreciated her daughter's honesty when she (Idunn) told her what happened to her and what she had to endure. Soon had to return to Ýdalir and hugged her daughter one last time.

When she entered the forest again after several hours her daughter was gone but to her surprise her son, Vrath visited her. Hugged and groomed the boy and he and his friend soon settled down at his birth tree. Elliot joined the little group and somehow the Wanderess felt peace for the first time after months. Tried to soak in this feeling as best as she could. Regains her old strength and is ready to approach any problems that might come in the future, especially now with the return of her children.

On the other hand gives her red daughter, Rhona the space she needs. Refuses to push any boundaries, the mother will be there if Rhona needs her but in a way tries to protect her heart from more damage. Fully accepts the nature of the doe, if she wants to live, she will live, if she wants to end her life then Åsleif wouldn't even be surprised anymore.

Searched day and night for Iðunn but the lack of information caused her to stop, spread the word that a child named Iðunn was a free woman and not a slave. One night asked the gods what she should do when suddenly a gray wolf crossed her path. Knew it was a sign that justice would be served and Iðunn would find her way. Returned to her house and rebuild it. Spent a lot of time thinking about her purpose and why the gods took so many children from her. Soon accepted her fate and started to think that it's her task to accompany these children for a certain amount of time. Maybe until they found their own purpose, maybe just to be a light in their darkness until the gods tested them again. Somehow comforted by this thought her old mental strength seemed to return.

The residents of the little village Lyngvi respected Åsleif because she liked to share her food with those in need and she never turned away from someone who needed her help. Though some higher ranked men didn't like some of her beliefs, especially her negative attitude towards slavery and raiding. Others welcomed her new way of thinking (especially slaves) and decided to stand behind her.

When an especially harsh winter hit the little village Lyngvi, Åsleif continued to share what little she had. In her free time, she helped building houses because she strongly believed the gods would honor hard and honest work. Meanwhile the wealthy men openly displayed their large amount of food and invited Åsleif to eat with them. Their goal was obvious, they wanted to humiliate her. Still the woman accepted the invitation and sat with them at a long table that was filled with various kinds of food. They ate the delicious food while the hungry slaves watched and Åsleif suddenly remembered the gray wolf that crossed her path. The Wanderess stood up and rammed her knife deep into her host's chest and watched how the slaves killed the remaining guests. The blood-stained woman walked to the doors and let the villagers in. Due to this act, the villagers made it through winter and Åsleif became the new Jarl of the little village Lyngvi. The Viking freed the slaves but many voluntarily stayed to help in the household. Together with the other villagers they build a great hall where Åsleif could listen to the sorrows and ideas of the villagers and where she, and everyone who needed a home, lived.

The Wanderess added four more chairs next to hers. One for each child.

Left Riki and returned to her homeworld Ýdalir with her daughter Åsa. Still refuses to open the portal to the forest again so she tries to keep herself busy.

While she was in the process of resurrecting Alain, another soul was able to 'sneak in' and become part of the new being. The first thing she did, when he woke up was hitting him right in the face and scolding him for disturbing the process. After a long talk, the Wanderess calmed down and allowed him to stay. Told him to at least help in the household and if he ever dared to even look at Iðunn, she would kill him and throw his soul into hel.

After a few days of getting to know each other and telling him about the world he currently lives in, the man decided to explore the nearby villages. Days passed and the village the Wanderess was living in, got raided by bandits. She tried to defend her family as best as she could though ultimately they managed to kidnap Iðunn, while she was unconscious. Woke up hours later again to realize that her house got nearly completely destroyed and the mother herself was covered in blood and had several broken bones. Searched for Iðunn but once again lost another child.
