I recently re-found my copy of this
it's an excellent book. it doesn't teach you to draw, or give drawing tips at all which I actually like.
This is not a "how to draw" book, but rather a "how to think creatively" book. The matrix technique, in a nutshell, is a way to combine different aspects, both physical and mental, to create unique characters. For example, one character (a "wind spirit") was created using a witch, a circus leader, a balloon and the sky as components. Weird? Certainly. However, at first glance it's not obvious that these are the pieces that comprise it, but after reading the character description it becomes readily apparent, as is the logic for selecting these elements. To boil it down, this book is about taking a diverse system of aspects and using them to create characters that are greater than the sum of their parts. In essence, this book is an immunization against artist's block or creative burnout.
and I have art block and creative burnout.
so. Name some stuff friends, I'll try and make things of the ones that interest me (:
No limit offer as many as you like.
I may add some colour for highlight, but it'll be lineart for the most part.
You're welcome to snatch up your offers as characters if/when I draw them
---
Ysrael's. this was difficult due to the ethereal nature of the animal and the element, it was quite fun to do.
I've reversed the colours of the animal and plant. I hope it comes off well haha. (:
Deerth. I hope you enjoy, you're welcome to take her if you like (:
The Orchid growing on her body is parasitic, by taking over a host body it allows itself to move. It may then add traits to its host form by ingesting flesh from other creatures, and using their D.N.A to support the growth of things it wants.
This one must be young. It carries only two species.
Shikatail. The pine tree was a pleasure to use, I've clipped the Okapi's horns and made its neck and head more streamlined, but triangular in the head. As well as given it sturdier, trunk like legs. The other changes speak for themselves (:
Pinkpaws. Birds are not my strong point, so it was nice to have a chance to practice! This little creature may look cute, but be careful, when it senses the electrical pulses from a living creature, it lays its body against the branch and raises its flowery tail waiting for it to get near. It will eat smaller animals whole, but will ignore larger creatures. Or even be friendly with them. Still, gloves are recommended for handling.
Wolf. Deer. Orchid. Fire.
