Due to Nai’s alarming past he tends to be emotionally withdrawn and strives to keep his past hidden. Despite him being tormented and self-loathing, his outward behavior alludes to nothing of the sort, and causes his issues to go unnoticed. He loves to party and play with the other deer in the forest as much as he can and lives recklessly; anything to keep his mind busy. If any other deer try to become personally closer to him he tends to shy away or ignore the advances. He greatly fears having intimate relations with others, only to have them end up finding out about his past and losing them to their own disgust of him.
In looks, Nai takes after his mother greatly. He has her soft grey pelt and graceful bone structure. His face on the other hand was inherited from his father and is more angular than most flat faced deer. Also like Protus, he shares the same moss green eyes, though they do not contain such a harsh and proud gaze. His short antlers are common among the males of his breed, though his right one was partially broken off in his youth. He also has three scars on his left hind leg from a mountain lion attack. He never did adapt to the strange custom of wearing a mask in The Endless Forest and prefers to show his face.
.:[Past]:.
As a fawn, Nai grew up in a proud and rather stern family. Both of his parents, Protus and Despina, were from pure blooded lineage and greatly respected in their community of deer. His father, Protus, was rarely present in his life and to make up for this his mother adorned him and his sister with a great deal of love and affection. Though Despina treasured her children, she was very firm when it came to dealing with their behavior and Nai got the blunt end of the stick quite often due to his rebelliousness.
Being a rambunctious fawn, Nai loved to go off on adventures, but with his mother’s strict rules he was never allowed to stray too far from the community. Not only would he sneak away from her watchful eyes but his sister, Nerei, always wished to tag along. Being the younger of the two, she got her way most often with the parents while he was stuck with the responsibilities of learning to be a leader and strapping young buck for the community like his father.
As he was trying to slip away one day to explore a giant rock mound that he had heard about, his sister caught him. She blackmailed him with the threat of revealing where he was planning to go to their mother if he didn’t let her tag along. Begrudgingly he agreed and they set off on the adventure.
Wandering through the thinning undergrowth to their destination, Nai came up with a clever plan as payback for Nerei annoyances. He told her that they should play a game of hide and seek and because she was so good at hiding, he would be ‘it’ first. After she went to find a hiding spot, Nai was left with the freedom of exploring on his own. The satisfaction did not last long due to the fact that the rocks were less exiting than he had anticipated. Quickly he became bored and decided to resume the task of finding his sister.
As Nai strode around he noticed a flicker of movement obscured by a larger rock. Presuming it was Nerei, he quietly crept up to the boulder in an attempt to frighten her. As he was about leap at her, a mountain lion sprang from the supposed hiding spot. He dodged out of the way of the attack with bewilderment and fear coursing through his system. Regaining his wits about him he realized that his sister was stilling hiding somewhere and needed to find her quickly. Haphazardly running, escaping towards the narrow trees they had entered through desperately calling for her. Not watching his stepping, he tripped over a log. Cursing his luck and turning to see if the mountain lion was still pursuing him he realized that in fact he had not tripped over a log at all. At first he couldn’t tell what it was that he was staring at but something in the back of his mind was screaming in terror and above all, sorrow. The comprehension flooded into his mind with a shrill of pain, he knew that he was gazing at the mangled corpse of his little sister. By the time the shock wore off it was too late, he painfully crashed to the ground even harder than before. The mountain lion was on him, gouging its claws into his hind and slamming his body into the cold earth. Nai kicked wildly in a frantic attempt to free himself. As the lion was about to bite down on his wind pipe, Nai kicked its eye and it let go with a howl of pain, giving him barely enough time to escape from its grasp. Finding a crevice between a pile of rocks, he had just enough room to squeeze in. He silently cried there for the entire night, fear urging him not to sleep.
Warily emerging the next day, feeling weak and utterly alone, his first thought was to return to the comfort of his mother, but then the guilt swam over him. He had caused his sister’s horrible death. What would his mother think of him when he told her? The fear of breaking his her heart and the hatred for him that would surly follow made him too cowardly to return. He could never go home…
He set off aimlessly, wandering for days. Unwilling to eat or sleep out of guilt and self loathing, the incident plagued him with every step he took, until he could walk no more and collapsed. He had no recollection of how long he had slept or where he was when he awoke. Over time Nai found out that the hauntingly peaceful place he had stumbled into was named, The Endless Forest. There he found many other deer of all kinds, some very much like himself and others with feature he never could would have imagined. There he made a place for himself, striving to forget his past as he grew into adulthood.
This is such a sweet story! I shall try and make some art for Nai to cheer him up It might take a little while though; I want to make it different and try out a new feature on my new computer with it..
This is such a sweet story!
