Thud...thud...thudthud...thudthud...thudthud...

Hooves tapped the frozen ground, leaving large and snow-gilded prints. Behind them swayed a brush of fur that grew to tip a long, lion-like tail. The Irish Elk-sized beast seemed to stalk the winter-caught forests of this realm like a predator. His tusks gnashed as he stripped bark off a birch to his right, eating as he went. The beast had yet to meet anyone other than the beautiful and masculine doe Ravus, who seemed more than happy to play with him. Odd doe, fine playing with a beastly Unicorn male as he.

The does of his kind were the pretty ones, and the young males... all before they reached 1000 years and their adult-hoods. At 1000, the males began to breed, becoming beastly to fight for their dainty females. Tusks protruded from their jaws like a pig's, two growing right up through their nasal cavities and through their bridges. From beautiful horse-deer to offensive boar-elk in merely 50 years or so. From that to him.

The beast stopped, spotting a patch of frozen green grass. As the stag lowered his great skull, it disappeared in to the taller reeds. Anyone coming head-on or from the side would only see a giant elk's form, not very unusual in the Endless Forest. That was, until the beast lifted his well-armed head again.

For now, his dead-leaf-colored fur blew thickly in the winter wind as he savored the green shoots.

The doe-mare could not be

The doe-mare could not be described as dainty, but nor could she be described as the heaviest built. She was somewhere in-between a light draft horse and a stocky gaited horse. Yes, her main build resembled that of a horse, with a deer neck, ears, and two slightly-dull horns upon the top of her head. Her face was that of a human, gifted by the twin gods, yet it hid under her beloved sycamore-built mask. Her horse-like body was a chocolate brown, decorated with six golden stripes and one white stocking on her left hind leg. A lighter brown mane and tail were present on her, both long and thick. She stood taller than many of the average deer of the forest, but she was not as tall as the stag she watched now from the shadows of her favorite grove of trees near the idol.

Aimitis as she was called, had been watching him for some time now, not daring to leave to sanctuary of her sycamore grove. He wasn't too close, just close enough for her to catch a glimpse of that single horn upon his head and that lion-like tail. She had not seen more than that, due to her having a bad viewing angle.

It was when the male turned his head just right that she actually spotted the tusks for a brief moment. Oh, now her curiosity was sparked! What was this creature? The single horn said "unicorn" but those tusks made her wonder "What more is there about this stranger?"

She finally dared to leave her hidden spot. Darting between the cover of trees, she walked slowly closer the now-grazing male, taking advantage of his sudden distraction. She was carefully lifting her larger hooves to avoid making any-

-Crack! Of course she was asking for it, trying to sneak around. She must have stepped on a fallen branch or some other dead brush caught under the light layer of snow. The doe-mare froze, watching her subject to see if her cover had been blown.

[I know the branch-cracking thing is kinda clíche, but it was the best I could come up with at the moment.]

Nearby, a very large black

Nearby, a very large black rock sat. The air around it was warm, hot even, as if the stone was a lump of still-smoldering coal. There was no snow around it; it had all melted away.

The rock was statuesque, smooth, carved, and shone slightly in the light. Looking at it closely, it resembled a resting horse, but that was just a flight of fancy. Nobody could carve the rocks here in the forest, and who would carve a lone horse in the middle of the forest.

Still, as the commotion nearby roused the birds from the trees and caused a clamor in the brush, the stone seemed to move. More snow began to melt around it, and a low rumble shook the ground around it. And suddenly, the rock was alive.

And it was on him.

Moving almost too quickly, the obsidian behemoth was right beside the unicorn. Standing this close was like resting beside a blazing fire, but a very hot fire. Unpleasant. The rock monster's stance was predatory as his metal head nearly grazed the jawbone of the mysterious new beast that had come into 'his' territory. With a loud huff, smoke billowed from his metal nostrils and the gaps in his teeth as his exhaled the unicorn's scent. It was obvious that the creature had no respect for personal space.

"Name..." his voice sounded like the very earth was shifting, the sound of magma roaring and rocks being crushed between each other. The beast now stood eerily still, the tip of his white-hot steel titanium nose still placed mere centimeters from the unicorn's jugular. So close, the obsidian giant could hear the beat of the tusked one's blood rush through the blood vessel.

A smile remained on his grey face, one that indicated he was not out to harm this large beast, not yet. Oh no, he would test him first.

A crack then the appearance

A crack then the appearance of this metallic beast... was he being hunted here? The Unicorn stag loomed over the shorter beast, his ears pinned and eyes focused on the strange creature that seemed to be trying to intimidate him.

"And what if I have none to give?"

The twin tusks protruding from the top of his maw seemed to move, sliding in and out of the scarred wound there; cracking together with their shorter twins as each word exited his mouth. In truth, they did slip through the bones of his skull, and it was a macabre sight to those not used to such malformities. Grunting, the beast raised his head, ears erect, and peered in the direction of the doe's presence. Now that his ears were erect, one could see their length. This length was power, and the curled tips were age akin to his tusks. A softness came to his eyes and he sniffed in, before turning back to the smaller beast with a snort of disgust.

"Your smell is overpowering my sense, and you also seem too narrow-focused. You do know that there is another in this copse of trees, yes?"

His eyes betrayed the regal stance, laughing. Really, he did not take the attack well. His entire body was poised to harm, but his mind was curious. The brush of his lion-like tail motioned to the doe in the trees.

(Sorry for the crap here, I think it reflects hi surprise at being converged on so fast XD )

[Three-way roleplay then?

[Three-way roleplay then? Haven't done one of these in a while.]

The mare had honestly jumped at the sudden appearance of the other, statue-like creature. She did not recognize it at all. An inanimate object come to life.

An interesting concept, true, but the larger creature had blown her cover. She briefly wondered if the two beasts would turn on her, but brushed the thought aside. Sure, she didn't like violence, but she was more than capable of defending herself. Her horns may be slightly dull, but that doesn't mean they aren't dangerous. And her hooves were strong enough to deal powerful blows themselves.

She took those first steps out of the shadows, her hooves kicking up snow as she went. Her forest-green eyes were locked onto the two others, her gaze running over both observantly.

"Well aren't you attentive." She said to the taller male, her own long, horse-like tail swishing behind her. There was a kind look in her eyes, and the edges of her mouth seemed to want to turn up into a welcoming smile, but something kept her from doing so.

Her cautious gaze fell on the smaller creature. She said nothing to it, but her own instincts told her not to trust its metallic, unnatural appearance.

The beast's ever-smiling maw

The beast's ever-smiling maw opened with a small rush of smoke and the sound of obsidian cracking together.

"So be it." He pulled back from the unicorn-beast. Smoke puffed from his nostrils as he breathed, especially when the fleshy stag mentioned another. The obsidian one's back had been to her the entire time, but she had not gone unnoticed.

"You seem to believe that I cannot hear or feel." He flicked his long, whiplike tail. "Of course I felt something nearby. Felt it in the ground."

He looked back at the doe who had walked from the trees, his bright orange eyes locking on a smaller target. In the silence, one could hear bubbles of magma popping between the cracks of his outer armour.

"So much for this part of the forest being secluded. Who are you?" He directed his full attention to the doe, staring at her down his snout. The brute behind him was no longer of interest; he wasn't as flighty as many other of these hoofed ones. But perhaps the doe would give him a better reaction, and therefore make a much more suitable pet.

(Sorry to be late on this, you two. >w<)

Attentive I may be. The

Attentive I may be.

The Unicorn stag smiled best he could at the approaching doe, his tail curling and dropping at the tip much like the cat that was famed to possess it would do. His eyes flicked between the two that had seemed to be hunting him, deciding that the pair of them posed no threat. Curious, that'd be what they were.

And when did I say that? Hmhm you seemed to be more focused on me than she, as if you did not notice such a doe in your presence, Iron Beast. And now you seem too interested in her.

He refused to finish the thought aloud, but clapped his teeth together in a noise like breaking bone. Often that sound was heard in his homeland when a male thought his does were in danger or when he challenged another, but here it had no meaning. The beast just walked a crescent, placing himself at an angle to intervene if need arise, but more to watch. The Iron Beast made him curious.

Trees creaked above, birds taking flight if they came in contact with the vile smoke that seemed to ooze from the Iron Beast and burn the Unicorn's nostrils.

Faraway, Faraway, watch.

That voice inside his head started to chime. Who was Faraway? Why should Faraway watch? The beast flicked an ear as if to dismiss the noise.

She did not like all this

She did not like all this attention. Her whole body froze in apprehension, fight-or-flight instincts kicking in. They told her that it was no use trying to leave. This creature seemed too bent on trying to intimidate one of them.

And she wasn't giving in without a fight.

"There is hardly a secluded area in this forest. And if you must know..." Her hooves were digging into the snow, searching for solid ground. A foothold. Her long tail flicked, the ends of the hairs brushing a tree directly behind her.

"It is Aimitis. Meaning 'amethyst.' The birthstone. But you don't care about it's meaning, do you?" She eyed the metal creature suspiciously. Its scent reached her nose. She had to breath in through her mouth to prevent herself from wanting to make a face. She could feel its heat from this distance.

Her eyes glanced to the taller stag when he made the small noise. She took note of his movement briefly before turning back to the other creature.

"Now, what about you? What are you?"

The beast stood silently,

The beast stood silently, ignoring the other stag's remark and watching the doe with interest. He flared slightly at the snapping of teeth. While the obsidian bull may not have known its exact meaning, it was a universal symbol of aggression. A few obsidian plates cracked together on his shoulders in response.

"K." He said curtly. "And that's for the who and the what. K."

K turned to face the taller stag. "You're the only one remaining unnamed, beast. If not to me, be polite to the lady and offer up some name. Make one up, if you must."

His smug face tilted in mocking, he clucked some soft laughter and swished his tail. He returned his attention to the doe, shifting on his sharp hooves as he waited for the giant's response.

The tall thing snorted. His

The tall thing snorted. His head turned toward "K" to again take in the difficult sight of the non-organic thing. Feigning a moment of appall, the beast shifted his weight to his other side.

And what is so important about a name? Where I come from, of course, we don't have names. Don't talk much either.. a moment of chuckling laughter Why they are important eludes me.

The Unicorn peered at the doe, smiling. After all, names can be used repeatedly. I see a doe named the same as a precious jewel- His head swiveled back to the shorter beast. And I see you named for a simple sound.

What was in a name? The beast could not understand their incessant needs to name themselves. Was his powerful menthol scent not enough to know who he was? His tusks surely made him stick out in this realm, could they be enough of a description so others knew who they spoke of? For a reason unknown it did not seem so here.

One who smells of menthol? Too long, it seemed. Tusked-one? What if others had tusks? Unicorn? He had smelled others of his kind, surely he was not the only one.

That voice again, crooning in his ear: Faraway. They need an answer, do they not? You know that, Faraway. Give the pair of them SOMETHING!

The stag's ears flicked again, his tail lashed in response to that of K's. You all have strange customs here. He grunted. Fa- hmhm... sure, call me Faraway. and don't ask why.

She merely eyed the rock-like

She merely eyed the rock-like creature. She did not like the way it continued to stare at her, as if waiting for a moment of weakness. She decided to simply turn away from it's gaze.

Instead, she turned to look over at the taller stag. "Well, Faraway, not everyone has a name in this forest. Some simply go by symbols. But it's nice to have something for us to call you by."

She took a step closer to him, as her eyes fell on the single horn crowning his head. In truth, she was not paying much attention to the monstrous tusks protruding from his lips, but a question she was dying to ask burned on the end of tongue.

There was a childlike curiosity in her eyes. "Are you... a unicorn?"
