lazy updates sob but I'm glad I'm actually updating a character for once

Woke up without falling snow, and was immensely relieved. Soon joined by Esll, whose company helped alleviate some of the heavy weight of his negativity the night before, which he appreciated even though he was fairly certain Esll wasn't aware of the positive effect of his presence. Dared to fall asleep in the hopes of not having a nightmare, and when he awoke, the Monarch had been replaced by a small Latch. Glad to see the youth, and shuffled closer. Learned his name, and exchanged words that left Malikorin feeling considerably better. Grateful for it.

Later Esll returned, and then Noelle joined them. It was clear to the monochrome stag that things were not how they once were - although sitting with both the green-eyed doe and the Monarch in peace had never been something Malik imagined would happen, he inwardly shrugged - where he once might have attempted to figure out the source of it, now was perfectly content with moving forward with how things were.

A couple trolls appeared and bothered Esll - at first did little, hoping the lack of action would bore the invaders, but they drove Esll off and Malikorin thought it would be best to aid him, so pursued them. Eventually lured the remaining stranger away from Esll, Noelle, and Latch - didn't want to traumatize the boy in his method of disposal of the irritant - and ended its reign of terror once and for all. Returned with a subtly smug look in his eyes, pleased to have seemingly impressed his company with his victory, and settled with the three.

Feeling far better than the night before, indeed.

P r e v i o u s l y - Was doing quite well... and then it started snowing.
Currently a quiet mess - though at times, not so quiet. Feels a myriad of negativity as a result of resurfaced past memories triggered by the snowy weather, and isn't handling it very well. Could return to the human world, but is convinced that if he can tolerate the snow long enough, he may be able to break the cycle. So far, failing miserably.

P a n d o r a - WHAT ARE WE. Loved her deeply, to the point of feeling completely bound to her. Remained by her side for years. Their bond began in her fawnhood, and continued through her death and resurrection into adulthood. They claimed each other at last once her murderer, the sin Jealousy, had been defeated and her soul was restored. After the birth of their twin sons, the rest of the sins took her away and she fought for months to free her firstborn's soul. Her return was met with great relief from Malik, but later their bond was broken when she accused him for the failure of their family. Their relationship mended some time later, but sporadic absences from both of them for various reasons splintered their relationship, eventually shattering it. A recent reunion ended on a positive note. A new candle has been lit, perhaps.

K a e l t i i r - Biological son, creation between him and Pandora. Kael's rambunctious behavior as a fawn was amusing to Malik, unless of course it got him into trouble, which it did. Then it wasn't so amusing. Still, the stag's obvious displays of affection are deeply appreciated especially during difficult times, and Malik hopes his love for Kael is obvious as well. Always enjoys spending time in his son's company. Learned of Kael's loss of his children, which was a much larger blow to Malik than he let on - couldn't imagine being a grandfather, but the fact that it almost happened and was taken away twisted his heart. Visits their grave frequently, usually when he is alone.

M i e r a a k - Biological son, creation between him and Pandora. The quieter and more mellow nature of Mieraak was easier for Malik to relate to. Was once resented and avoided by the fawn when he returned to the forest, but then Mieraak disappeared for a while and Malik blamed himself. As soon as he came back safe and sound, Malik was even more relieved to be met with affection. Was unexpectedly met with hostile words from the boy and was disowned alongside Pandora later. Avoided Mier for some time afterward, but after speaking more with him and finding him in another world, feels a bit closer to now. Still loves after everything.

N e i r o - Neiro may be able to fake emotions, but he feels little, if anything, for most others but his siblings. Malik doesn't tell him much, but Neiro seems to find out enough on his own. Despite their constant conflicts, Malik cannot imagine a life without him in it. {Older brother}

R e q u i e m - Malik gets along with Req the best out of his brothers. Malik knows Req looks up to him, and makes an effort to comfort him when necessary. {Younger brother}

I n a l i - His sister, recently brought back into the realm of the living after he and Pandora claimed each other. He brought her into the human world with Neiro to reunite her with Requiem. Incredibly protective of - despite so much time apart, she is just as dear to him as his brothers.

J o r o g u m o - An adopted sister. Joro means a lot to Malik, and after watching her die by the claws of Jealousy and then come back, holds her closer than ever. He knows he can rely on and confide in the Spider Queen. Misses.

K u s a b i - The wise stag was first met with suspicion from Malikorin, but after he introduced himself as Pan's father and it became clear that Pan did think of him as such, Malik viewed him in a much more positive light. Kusabi was a constant presence during Pan's pregnancy and birth of the twins, but Malik hasn't really seen him around since.

K e n a i - Malik's nephew through Neiro, unmet.

K o d y - One of his oldest friends. Malik is quite fond of the wolf, and thinks highly of him. He trusts Kody, and would protect him. He enjoys romping with the canine as well. Is glad to be seeing him more often lately, and will always welcome him into his company. Doesn't like relying on others to help keep himself happy, but Kody is one who is sure to lift Malik's mood.

U m a y - Another of his oldest friends. The lioness is an important individual in his eyes, being one of the first he ever romped with and also one who had seen and supported him during his worst times in the forest. He trusts her very much, and gave her a red-tailed hawk feather as a sign of their friendship. Distance has grown between them, but appreciates it whenever she visits him, however brief the meetings might be.

R u i - Malik became truly appreciative of Rui when the feline kept him close company while Pandora was dead. He really cares about Rui, and misses him.

~~L u m e~~ - A deceased close friend, someone Malik really liked. Felt that Lume was trustworthy, and liked spending time with him. Was there when he died; despite Lume's poor condition as he passed away, will always remember him as the strong, dependable stag he was.

L a t s ' v e l - It has taken Malik longer to become familiar with Lats'vel than others in the past, perhaps partly due to the boar's unpredictability. Although Malik's attitude towards him has changed from neutral to more positive, he feels like he never knows for certain where they stand. Does not dislike.

D j i n n - She was one of the few deer Malik would play around with. He witnessed the birth of her fawns, and was very proud of her. He very much liked the time they spent together. Misses.

N o e l l e - She was the first one Malik ever revealed his past to. He's shared many memorable times with her, including the discovery of the effects of blueberries. Will never forget her, and cherished the rare times he saw her in the last couple years. A bit of worry constantly flares in the back of his mind for her, as she had not been in the best of conditions the last time they spoke. Misses.

K a o o r i - He secretly feels comforted by her presence when she comes and sits by him when he's alone. Malik also appreciated her helpfulness when he came to her for advice about parenthood, and believes her to be kind and approachable. Considers her a friend, and is grateful for her caring attitude towards him.

S p i r i t u e l l e - Malik is fascinated by the ethereal doe. He wants to know more about her, and enjoys talking with her. Misses.

T u l l u s - The first 'friend' Malik ever made. Despite the poltergeist's importance to him, he often felt conflicted due to Tullus' maliciousness towards others - particularly his friends. Gone, but won't forget.

R i z a - Malik is fully aware of the fact that he intimidates her, and typically can't resist reinforcing it. Despite this, he probably wouldn't tolerate anyone bothering her.

R h e a - Malik remembered when she was still just a little hyena cub whom Pandora was so fond of, but he never really got to know her himself. Glad that she appeared to be close with his sons. Gone.

D e m o n - This stag's eagerness to learn why Malik is the way he is has made Malik wary of him. No longer as distrustful of him as before, though. A rare presence in the forest nowadays.

E s l l - Lots of struggles against the Monarch regarding Noelle. However, many negative emotions directed toward Esll have lessened over time from not seeing him.

K a h l i - He enjoys messing with her - especially when she dares rub on his trees - and is amused by her constant aggression. Despite this, he's curious about her even though getting to know her seems to be out of the question. Gone.

J e a l o u s y - Pandora's murderer and soul stealer. Malikorin was determined to eliminate the sin, and played a part in the sin's destruction. Jealousy caused a feeling as close to hatred as Malik could get.

Riza steadily approached the side of the ruins in which Malikorin's trees grew. She tread very carefully, craning her head and ears to see if Pandora was with him. Recent spying saw that the two were often together, much to Riza's frustration. Call it cowardly, but Riza didn't want to confront the black doe directly. It was already complicated enough by that she could only hope that Malik had not been the black and white stag that had been described to her.
Finally luck was with her, as she could indeed tell that Malik was alone for the moment. She let up on her guard and moved a little more casually, though she had never approached Malik with any sort of ease.
She made her way to his side, and when she was within adequate distance to hold a one-on-one conversation, she said, "Hello, Malikorin."

A black-rimmed ear slowly rotated in Riza's direction, turning to continue facing her as she came closer. Only when she spoke did he turn his head towards her a little, an olive eye flickering the rest of the way to meet her gaze.

"Riza."

He didn't ask why she was there. Although he did not know of Riza's connection to the battle Neiro had gotten involved in, he didn't break eye contact - she would know to explain. Riza didn't normally approach him just to sit or talk without reason.
The stag didn't jump to conclusions. He waited for her to speak before allowing himself to assume, instead.

Riza nodded her head and averted her eyes for a moment at his gaze and greeting. She sat down where she stood a bit awkwardly, since she hadn't exactly been invited to. But she supposed now wasn't really the time to worry about proper social etiquette.
She returned the eye contact when she spoke, her thoughts more or less in tandem with Malik's concerning her presence, "I suppose you're wondering why I'm here..." She swallowed. "My daughter was recently attacked and badly wounded by multiple deer. I think... I think you probably know a couple of them."
She had planned on being frank with Malik, but she always seemed to waver in his presence.

He watched her sit without a word. He would've invited her to do so anyway - he didn't even bat an eyelid as soon as she settled down.

So her daughter had been attacked. By numerous deer... and supposedly he may know a couple of them. He let his thoughts sift through memory briefly before speaking.

"Describe them."

He had an idea who the attackers were, the ones that were associated with him at least. His suspicion grew slowly, waiting for her to answer him. There was a chance he could be wrong, but after witnessing and being told certain things by certain individuals, he was confident that his guesses were correct.

"Well," she began, crossing and rubbing her front hooves together nervously as she stared down at them, "This is what I was told. A black doe with white hair and a fish-like tail. And a black and white stag with spiked ram horns."
She was finding it hard to choke out the names she had placed on those descriptions. Where she had been certain merely minutes before, doubt crept in. Riza looked back up at Malik and searched his unsearchable olive eyes with her own emerald, hoping that she was wrong, at least about the black doe.

"Pandora and Neiro."
The stag turned his head to face Riza directly.
"First, Pandora is currently without a soul. I don't know if you've heard, but the sin Jealousy has plagued her for years, and he has stolen her soul. She is not herself, and without her emotions she is clearly unlikely to make rational decisions."

He blinked once.
"Second, Neiro was probably involved in order to protect Pandora, like I've asked him to. I strongly doubt he would target your daughter otherwise. And lastly, was your daughter alone?" Even though Pandora had no soul, she wouldn't just fight Riza's daughter out of the blue. The two had no connection as far as Malik was aware, but perhaps there were more deer present than just the three who might have triggered the attack.

Riza's heart sank a little at Pandora's name. And Neiro. So that was his name.
Riza turned away as she felt frustration creep into her as Malik was attempting too explain, no, excuse Pandora. Though, she honestly didn't expect otherwise. As for Malik's explanation on Neiro, she outright bristled in anger.
"Yes, there was another with Skylar, but they were minding their own business until that big quill-backed stag decided to pick a fight with them! That stag target my daughter!" Her voice steadily rose as she continued, sarcasm leaking into her words every now and then, "And I've had more than enough pleasant experience with Neiro to know that he was probably just as eager to beat up on innocent deer as he was to 'protect' Pandora. If her safety had been his only priority, he would have not even let her join in a fight that was none of her concern. They nearly killed Skylar and her friend, Malik! They had no chance!"
She was shaking. She didn't know what she was more angry at, the fact that Neiro and Pandora clearly had no problem out-numbering and beating up on a child (Skylar was nearly an adult now, but that didn't change anything for Riza), or that Malik was attempting to paint them as innocents.

His voice was no louder than usual, but it carried an edge. His pupils had narrowed into slits by this point, and his sclerae had darkened a bit.

"I wasn't there to stop it, there's nothing I can do to take anything back - it's passed and over and your daughter is alive, get that in your head." Thinking she could waltz in and yell at him for something he'd had zero control over. "I am well aware of my brother's nature. I'm sure he didn't hesitate to stop Pandora from jumping into the fight. Neither would have gotten involved unless there was a connection - one of them must have known the quill-backed stag." He exhaled out of his nose. "You came here to learn who was involved in the fight. I've told you the ones I know. What do you expect me to do about it? Scold them?"

Chastising Pandora would have no effect - she was unable to feel anything. No remorse, no guilt. It'd be like talking to a wall. And then Neiro. Malikorin's words would likely go through one ear and right out the other when it came to something like this.

His sharp eyes never left Riza.

Where she had once been

Where she had once been intimidated by Malikorin, and probably would have shrank away at the sight of the change in the stag's eyes, the situation at hand had completely changed her attitude. Riza had to bite her tongue to keep her from acting out her temptation of kicking in Malik's head. Calm down? When she had witnessed her own child beaten and bloody? She supposed Malik couldn't really relate to her on that, as far as she knew. Though, she let him finish.

Her expression had hardly changed from the same disgust as before, but her voice was now much lower. "I knew you would defend them."

She stood. "But I suppose I can't really blame you." She actually did believe that at least halfway, though her dark tone left that a little ambiguous. "And you're right. You've kindly told me who was involved, and I thank you."

For a moment, her harsh facade faltered as she felt a small spark of curiosity about Malikorin's relationship with his brother, and certainly about everything that must have happened to Pandora since whatever triggered her to suddenly grow, especially since Malik's words on on this "Jealousy" and Pandora losing her soul, whatever that meant.

But, she shook her head and turned to make to leave. The anger was virtually gone, replaced with frustration and exhaustion. Maybe she would ask when she wasn't so annoyed with everyone and everything. When she didn't have her own affairs to consume her attention.
